I've always thought that bin Laden was killed in the Tora Bora campaign, since before that he couldn't seem to keep his mug off camera for more than a couple of days.
I still think he's dead and "they" are going to use some sort of video special effects or a double to make any new video. Various pundits, both left and right have speculated that bin Laden is either dead or so incapacitated that his primary function and usefullness to Al-Quaeda is as a martyr or figurehead: he hasn't been active at all in Al-Q operations since Tora Bora.
Of course, OTOH, if he IS still alive, then that's just one more target for us in the War on Terror.
