"David A. Bell, a professor of history at Johns Hopkins University"

G*d help us.

This moron both misses an important point and makes one. He misses, of course, the obvious idea that nipping mass murder in the bud is preferable to allowing it to continue. But he very nicely makes the point that, historically speaking, this war has been amazingly LOW cost in terms of American lives! No disrespect to the victims of 9/11, or to the men and women of our armed forces, of course.

Gravatar How can a professor be so incredibly dumb? The intent on September 11 was to kill 50,000 people in the Twin Towers, maybe 1,000 government officials in the Capital or the White House and to strike the Pentagon in such fashion that our military would be disabled. The fact that the numbers did not approach that does not negate the fact that they could easily have been that severe, or the next time, be even worse. What an ass.
