There is a new federal law called the Stolen Valor Act. It is possible to prossacute the less-than-honorable mayor with a $20,000. fine and one year in the joint.
I meet these people in bars all the time. Any veteran can ask two or three questions and figure out that they are phonies.
I can safely say that I've met enough "SEALS" and "Army Special Forces" in bar rooms to win any war. Trouble is, they were all phonies.
I usually ask them where they were stationed, which unit they were with, what their MOS was and all I get is a blank stare. Always it it "What is an MOS?"
Military Occupational Speciality. In the Marine Corps, a grunt is an "03." In the Navy they call it an NEC, or Navy Enlisted Classificaion code, and any SEAL knows what his code is. Mine was 5707. A SEAL officer's is 1130.
Now that I let the cat out of the bag, I imagine there will be a bunch of "Newly-minted Special Warfare" guys heading for the bar with some fresh war stories thanks to my info.
