Just popping in to say thanks for visiting and reviewing Lam(b). I really liked the review and included a quote from it in a recent blurb about Lam(b) - where "the writing is good and the design is pleasing." Thanks again.
You are most welcome.

Must disagree with you on one movie here....Chocolat is NOT drek. It was a lovely, mystic, romantic, fairy tale.
Yes, it probably qualifies as a chick flick. It also has Judi Dench. And Johnny Depp-- with an irish accent, I`ll add. And an imaginary kangaroo.
Worth netflix-ing.
I have no problems with 'chick flicks.' If it's good, I'll give it a chance. I'm not sure this description is enough to win me over.

The two 2005 movies that impressed me most are both British:
* "The Constant Gardener". This movie leaves you silent at the end. Very impressive, very depressive.
Fell into my, 'sounds depressing' category and therefore I avoided it.
* "Millions". A highly charming movie of the 'feel good' type. Many reviews wrongly classify it as an children's movie, and most reviewers have missed much of the symbolism in the movie anyway. Fantastic acting by the 9 year old main character.
I saw this--it was cute. I agree the acting was good. I saw a preview and the director was there and answered questions after--that was cool.

All I know is that the movie "Crash" was A.MAZ.ING. And I was thrilled when it won at the SAG's...
Brokeback is good too, and just as moving with its characters, but Crash is still better in my opinion.
I definitely want to see Brokeback. And I was interested in Crash, still am.

This is one odd year for me in that I've seen everything. This is not normally the case, so I don't know what bug got me motivated to go view them all. I know Brokeback will carry off a lot of the awards, but the one that haunted me the most in terms of thinking about it, and a lot of issues it raised, was Capote.
Those are the top two on my list.

yeah i saw them all last year, but not this year and it's bugging me. maybe i'll have to do a Capote and Brokeback Mountain double-header. Now that would be an interesting experience.
I was thinking about doing that myself! Both movies are playing continuously at Dupont. Want to go with me this weekend?

Try and leave a bit of poetry on your blog today for Reya's DC writers poetry project. It's been quite an experience reading what others have put up:

Since I live in a town now where the library has free movie rentals (nyah nyah, Wake County!) we have seen more movies lately. I did like The Hours though I admit I'm a sucker for Julianne Moore and also for a lesbian Meryl Streep. I have not seen Sideways but the book is hilarious.
The movie, Sideways, is funny, too, in a way. You might like it.
We watched The Cider House Rules tonight and I have to say, I was disappointed - probably shouldn't read the book first (esp. John Irving since he puts out 800 page monsters). I think he did a good job at adaptation though, since it would have been difficult to film the entire book.
Another one I haven't seen! In general, I like his books better than the movie versions. But I haven't read it either.
Speaking of Adaptation, that is also a fun flick to watch! Way weird but fun.
Oh, this one made me crazy. Pretentious clap-trap! But, weird fun too.
To make a long comment longer: I tend to watch films sometimes in an academic way, and then sometimes pay more attention to the Director of Photography than the director, actors or plot.
I do that sometimes too. It's my inner continuity editor coming out. I need to work on that fantasy movie job.
