Wonderful stuff--I haven't heard this album.
As one of the "Brazil freaks", yes of course I own this album. I bought it early on in my Brazil infatuation, and I don't think I realized the true greatness of it for a while. I liked it right from the beginning, but I didn't LOVE it like I do now until it had a chance to sink in completely. Until I had a chance to realize the mindblowing qualities of his pulling the guitar in one direction and his voice in the other. (That is the best description I've heard of that phenomenon.)
And "Aguas de Marco," what can I say about that SONG? There have been a ton of recordings of it, but it's hard to choose my favorite. The two contenders are Joao, of course, and then Tom Jobim & Elis Regina. It's impossible to pick.
(I also heard a great live version of it by Rosa Passos at Joe's Pub a few months back--wish I could have a recording of that to hear again. She, too, did some amazing stuff with the syncopation, but different than Joao.)

all i was going to say was: if you ever get the chance, go see him live. I saw him at Carnegie Hall this past fall and he was mesmerizing.
I'll second that. I saw him in Boston two summers ago. He was right off the plane (literally -- they show started late because he was coming from the airport) and it took him a while to get the guitar in tune, but once he was up and running... the guy still has it.
One of my all time favorite albums EVER ... and this coming from someone with WAY too much music ... I think I'll put it on right now ... perfect for a cold grey afternoon ...
Love your taste in music. Gilberto is the greatest.
