Hey, thanks for the primer. I don't know a heckuva a lot about soccer, but I try to follow things when the World Cup rolls around. I do remember the US's rousing victory over Mexico last time around, and I thought that was pretty great stuff.
Can you explain to me why it is that many people will say the US is one of the top teams in the world but they get put in a tough group? I thought there was some sort of seeding system in place...maybe the US just was on the cusp of getting an easier group or something. I just know that Mexico has a much easier group, and I know that we beat them this year.
Explica, por favor...

They only seed 8 teams. 1 for each first round group. Everyone else is stuck with the (un)luck of the draw. Not getting a seed garanteed the US 2 Euro teams in their group. Unfortunately, they got 2 of the best.
The US lost out on a seed base on recent World Cup performances. In 1998 they came in last of the 32 teams in the Wolrd Cup finals. Mexico advanced out of the first round in each of the last 3 World Cup finals.
