Gravatar Dear Johnny B
Just a technicality but, I believe that the list is actually the top 100 from IMDB.com which goes up to 250. AFI's list isn't current enough to include the LOTR flicks. Congrats on seeing 70 of the list though. You actually beat me by 2. You have to see Seven Samurai (# though. Not only is it a great film but then it completes the top 10 for you.

Gravatar Thanks, Adam...after I noticed all three LotR films on the list I kinda doubted it was the AFI list. Good to know where it comes from, 'cause I couldn't backtrack through to find out!

Also thanks for pointing out to me that Shichinin no Samurai was Seven Samurai, and you're right...I really should see that one. I've had a couple of opportunities, but something's always come up. That one's on the short list. You'd think after taking Japanese language classes that I could have translated that one, especially sice they spotted me a word...!

Gravatar I'm at a measly 49, but I'm proud of those 49, which include some of the more "obscure" titles like RUN LOLA RUN and STRANGER ON A TRAIN.

There are a few on that list I own on DVD, but haven't seen yet. And there are a couple on that list I haven't seen in 15 or 20 years now.

I want to see most of the rest, but particularly MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, THE SEVEN SAMURAI, 12 ANGRY MEN, and NOTORIOUS.

Still, it's not all that bad for a guy who never was a big movie fan until he got his first DVD player in '98. I've done a lot of good catching up.

Gravatar Oh yeah, Augie, I definitely recommend Manchurian Candidate. Another good film in that vein is The Best Man, with Henry Fonda.

Gravatar OK, I added MANCHURIAN to my Netflix list. THE BEST MAN doesn't seem to be out on DVD, though.

Gravatar You'll be amazed at how many Candidate scenes that subsequent films have referenced.

Too bad about The Best Man- I caught it on TCM a while back, maybe they'll show it again if you get it.
