But for better or for worse? 
for the better. I always felt I needed the artwork and all that came with the physical cd, but when you can have almost your entire music collection in the car with you or at work it really changes the way you listen to music. You will be listening to stuff you haven't listened to in forever, I can't tell you how much I enjoy it.
I've thought about getting one on and off for a while now, but never thought I could afford one. Still, you never know!
I was lucky enough to pick one up cheap. Shop around - since you're a Mac user, you might be able to come across one of the older, Mac-only ones. I got mine from a friend who upgraded to one of the spiffing newer ones. It's great to just fill it up and put it on random play; you'll discover music you'd forgotten you had.
