Lee Loughridge IS a master.
Baker's KING DAVID, though, is still a wreck of color. I've had it sitting around since it came out and can't bring myself to get excited enough to read it.

Master of disaster, I'd say!
Aw, actually, I've really liked her work on The Losers, but she muddies everything else up with the most monotonous color palette in the history of sequential storytelling. Obviously, she knows her stuff with the software, but I just don't agree with her color choices.
And I was surprised at how much I liked King David, so you might want to give it a shot one of these days...

I discovered a couple of weeks ago: Lee is a "he." Verified, validated, and approved.
The funny thing is, Lee's work on LOSERS is the first disappointment for me. The work he's done on BATMAN ADVENTURES and the first couple of HUMAN TARGET books was spectacular, though. And did he do BATGIRL: YEAR ONE? That worked well, too.
I don't see the complaint about Photoshop, though. I don't see an abundance of the splashy effects the tool has for colorists to use. I see a rather restrained color palette. The gradients are about as crazy as he gets.

So she's a he, eh! I used to think he was a he, then I saw a couple of articles or blog entrys or something that referred to him in the feminine. Now I know!
I don't think he uses the filters so much (I've been using PS professionally for over 10 years, so I know my gaussian blurs from my craquelaires), but it's just his relentlessly glum color palette that bugs me. On Losers, he actually uses some attractive colors and color combinations in his pursuit of monochromatic perfection, and I like it a lot more. Those muddy browns, purples, greens and blues he uses on almost everything else I've seen from him (like Gotham Central, for example) really become an annoyance to me and a hindrance towards appreciating the artwork.
But apparently there are many who agree with you, so what do I know. We'll agree to disagree on that one!
