Gravatar Where have you seen folks talking about the flick as you mentioned? Every post I've seen about it on various forums has been scathingly negative about Black as GL.

Gravatar Damn, that was fast! :O

Well, I may have exaggerated a teeny bit, but I've seen two or three recently, and since you've called me out I'll have to go back and go link hunting. Check back later! Maybe I should just make them part of the post.

And mostly what I'm referring to are blogs. I just don't spend too much time on Forums, although I'm sure the H.E.A.T. faction is livid.

Gravatar I'm stating the obvious here, but with profits the bottom line, Jack Black sure can pull in the um, jack.

Gravatar Hey I'm all for it, at least Black is funny, something Halle, keanue and clooney are not. And there is a huge difference in trying to be funny and being so bad that you are funny.

I don't believe for a second that they were trying to make a comedy with Batman and robin or even superman 3.

And lastly there is a GREAT Green lantern story in Bizarro comics that involves green lantern reservists that shows how funny a green lantern movie could be.

Gravatar He would make a great G'nort, but not Kyle.

Gravatar Altough Jack Black as Green Lantern is probably quite a bad idea, it seems to me that a funny Green Lantern movie could be a good idea. Kyle Rayner is the GL I'm most familiar with, from Grant Morrison's JLA, and he seems to be always cracking jokes and putting his foot in his mouth because he doesn't know how to act around his illustrious teammates. Morrison also gives him pretty funny stuff to do with his powers, like the scene in JLA: Earth 2 where he creates an army of flying monkeys to rescue people falling from an airplane. I'd like a superhero movie that's funny but also takes itself seriously. Too many superhero movies are either awful, parodies, or excessively momentous and deadly serious.

Gravatar Steven's right, you really can't go wrong with an army of flying monkeys at Jack Black's command.

Gravatar Sometimes I feel like the only 20-something guy who hates Jack Black with a white-hot furious passion...

Gravatar Boy, this is a sure-fire conversation-stimulating topic, isn't it?

Gravatar Hey, I'm one of those fine folks! Cool.

I had a whole big response that I was gonna post here, but basically it comes down to, I think it could have merit, and you don't. And you can't really prove or disprove the validity of someone's taste (unless they like Batman & Robin, which, seriously, that's just CRAZY).

But c'mon, clearly I don't hate genre comics, just because I could imagine a GL comedy being entertaining, any more than, say, Michael Moore Hates America for making Fahrenheit 9/11.

Gravatar I'LL RIP YOUR GUTS OUT, BACARDI!

Nah, just kiddin'.

What were we talking about? Batman punching Guy Gardner? That was awesome, yeah.

Gravatar That WAS awesome. One of the best scenes in comics EVER.

Tom- didn't mean to single you out, but I guess I singled you out, didn't I!
Anyway, don't take me too seriously...your site is great. I just felt like venting. Phew.
