I completely missed the Brick Top book, but I've been enjoying the hell out of Fabry (and Ennis!) on The Authority: Move Kev. He's great at drawing awful shit happening to ugly people.

Gravatar The Atomeka A1 issue is all reprints from the first run of A1, which is at least 14 years old by now, so it is very, very musty. The McKeever story is from a time when he was doing Eddy Current -- he hadn't done any Vertigo or even Epic work yet, IIRC. And it was highly reminiscent of the style keith Giffen was using then -- as was Michael Lark's work at the time, and he's matured past that style as well. But A1 was one of the best anthologies of its time - every issue had several stories that were great, and very little of it was weak. At least until they did an Epic sponsored version of the book, which was as weak as the original British version had been strong.

Gravatar Am I the only person who loved the Bricktop? I haven't seen one genuinely positive review of the book but my own... odd.

Gravatar I don't know about putting it out as a backup, but Tundra put out a Complete Bojefferies book years back, colored by Parkhouse himself, and I suspect Atomeka will be gradually reprinting it all in b&w across their upcoming anthologies.

That Flaming Carrot story has shown up at least twice before, but all in books that are out of print. It first appeared in "Aardvark-Vanaheim in 3-D" from 1984. Then it may have popped up in the original A1 anthology. Then it surfaced in Dark Horse' first Flaming Carrot collection from 1997. The story, with Sponge Boy bing kidnapped, actually leads into a subplot in "Cerebus: Church and State", believe it or not.

I liked Bricktop. You are not alone Tim.

Gravatar Ah! Thanks for all the info, guys. Just shows to go ya that I don't know everything all the time! And thanks for reading through all the typos- I'll have to go back and clean this up a little.

And here I thought I was such a Carrot completist! That's what I get for not buying Cerebus (the only issue, out of that mammoth run, that I own is the one in which the Carrot guested!) and generally passing on trades.
