Gravatar A fine, fine list with some really worthy titles! Who says this was a bad year for comics?

Gravatar Thanks, Dave! In any year, I always think there are some pearls mixed in there with the swine- you just gotta dig 'em out of the muck!

Gravatar I showed my 8 year old that a new Owly book was solicited for February, and he literally squealed, hugged me as hard as he could, and BEGGED me to order it. These books have GOT to get out of the Direct Market ghetto. Somebody needs to talk to Scholastic -- this would be a monster hit with their weight behind it.

and what I most appreciated about the Warlock revival was that they went back to the original KIRBY/Lee origins of the character as an artificial being created to be a messiah by a group of delusional scientists who want to save the world. I really think this one will creep up on people. I plan to continue to promote it as a lost gem. I don't regret a dime that I spent on this series.

Gravatar Man, I'm really digging reading all of these year-end wrap-ups throughout the blogosphere! Even if I disagree with some of the specifics (can't people dislike Bendis' DAREDEVIL just because they all independently agree it isn't very good rather than it being some kind of elitist blogger conspiracy to find a common punching bag?), I'm really enjoying reading everyone's discussion of *why* they enjoy the books that they do.

And before I sat down to put together my own list, my impression was that 2004 *was* a pretty lousy year in comics. Sitting down to compile my own list made me realize that there were quite a few books I did enjoy, even if nothing initially stood out as top-notch as in other years.

Gravatar Aug: thanks!

Jim: I'm wondering what you thought about Warlock 4...it certainly took me by surprise!

John: I think perhaps the perceived lack of quality books in 2004 has a lot to do with people looking at Marvel & DC's product, and not taking other publishers into account- something which is kinda commonplace all over the 'Net...
