Speak up!

Gravatar I don't want to sound like a jerk, and I'm writing this with the thought in mind that Mr. Harrison will probably read it. I like myCatholic.com but stopped using it when I got used to (actually hooked on) Bloglines. However, I think there is room for improvement and it sounds like this other guy is onto the things I would have liked to have seen done. In particularly a means of registering where you don't have to configure everything on two or three different computers.

I suspect this other person is looking to profit from his venture rather than just offer another service so I guess I'm in the not-so-happy camp either. But...I think Mr. Harrison might do well to consider some changes to his service using the contents of that bid as a suggestion box. Maybe it's too hard or too expensive to do...I don't know...but myCatholic.com already has a strong user base, name recognition and the good will of St. Blog's so this new guy is going to have a rough row to hoe if he doesn't have anything or much more to offer.

I'm pulling for you, Mr. Harrison. It's people like you who do neat things for the rest of us to use that makes a lot of this stuff fun and easy. I'm just trying to look at this thing objectively and apply some business sense to it.

Best wishes.

Gravatar So why not email Mr. Harrison with these ideas or comments? There's a "contact us" button on the home page.

Gravatar Actually, when myCatholic.com first started there was a request for suggestions and a reply form thingy; I did take the time to offer a suggestion (about registration, IIRC). :p~

I know something like registration is a whole can of worms from a scripting and hosting aspect, and I don't know how it fits into his vision for the site, but on a personal level I think it is an important feature and I doubt I'm alone. Ideally would be to offer a registration method and the cookie method that is now employed. But again, I'm not the one who has to develop and maintain something like that. Some things are easier said than done...but the reality is that people are going to use what suits their needs more and gives them more value for the dollar or click.

Gravatar I've been planning to add a simple way to copy or share prefences between computers for some time (whether by user registration or another means). I've simply been swamped with other projects while at the same time helping my wife take care of our new baby.

I'll see if I can get it done in the next week or so.

Thank you for your comments, Rick. I sincerely appreciate them. God bless!

Gravatar Flannery O'Connor had Lupus.

Gravatar Thanks, Julie, for the link - it's truly appreciated. We were very fortunate to have our daughter's lupus diagnosed right away, and thus treated quite aggressively, so that she is now in remission. However, the disease is unpredictable and can come back with a vengeance at any given moment.

I noticed Louise's remark about Flannery O'Connor. Since college, O'Connor has been one of my most favorite authors.

God bless.

Gravatar Maybe I'm too naive, but I read that project description as somebody wanting to make a version of myCatholic.com for another purpose. (Maybe myBaptist.com, or something?)

Gravatar Saints of the day, readings of the day...sounds Catholic to me.
