There would be a week or two of nominations, then the top five (or so) from each category would be voted upon. You could see the voting progress as it went along. Also the voting was held for a week (or maybe two)?

Much more like the many other blog awards are done.

They were changed because so many littler bloggers complained that no one but the big guys ever had a chance of winning. I understand the award holders' responsiveness to the complaints but including every single blog nominated in each category makes the whole thing really cumbersome. And holding them for a month ... I forgot they were even happening.
