I'm afraid I don't read Japanese ... What's the powdered stuff in the little cello bags?

I remember some PBS/Discovery/Travel channel program suggesting small containers of dry ice (same CO2) around the perimeter of the outdoor area where you'll be set.
I have to try this when my girlfriend and I go camping in a couple weeks. Last month the mosquitoes and bugs were starting to get annoying. Your suggestion might do the trick for the two days when we're in nature's playground.

Unfortunately, that mosquito trap is for indoor use, not outdoor, as the amount of CO2 generated is insufficient. I can see why the Taiwanese students invented it. After just a few days with kids running in and out, every night I had to do a mosquito hunt before bed.
The best hornet/wasp/fly trap I've used is a couple of funnels that I bought at Meijers (maybe a Kmart or WalMart would also carry it). I used an empty 2-litre bottle, filled it halfway with sugar, fruit juice and a bit of raw meat (chicken fat & tuna). I put it in the far corner of my garden and voila! Even clouds of gnats entered and couldn't get out.
