Speak up!

Gravatar The man may not have been canonized, but I hope that anyone who believed that is living in his Father's house. And of course, a part of the communion of saints (holy people) of which we are ALL trying to be good members!

Gravatar ack! make that "believed the portion that you quoted"

Gravatar I concur!

Gravatar Not even saints and Doctors of the Church are infallible, and that's a good point to keep in mind.

Even the Angelic Doctor got a few things wrong.

Gravatar I have only read Seven Storey Mountain, so I am surprised to hear people use him to make "edgy point[s] about orthodoxy in the church." Read it sometime (if you can), you might be surprised about him.

And I like to remind people from time to time that St. Catherine of Siena said she was *personally assured* by Mary that she [Mary] was not immaculately conceived. Even the saints get some things wrong.

Gravatar I have tried the Seven Storey Mountain several times and never gotten too far. That is why I wanted to try these essays which for the most part I found refreshingly unwhiney and to the point.

Gravatar Oh yay! Probably the best chapter in the whole book.
