Gravatar I love words too. Your ability with a foreign language - particularly one as idiosyncratic as English - always astounds me. I'm much too self-conscious to use a language other than my own.

Gravatar I have great admiration for bloggers who write in a second language. If I knew some Flemish, I'd leave you a comment in Flemish!

Gravatar I for one am glad you started a blog in English, since I've enjoyed looking at the pictures and reading your stories!

Gravatar I think you have an extremely good grasp of the English language. I've heard it said many times that English is not a pretty language, nor is it easy to learn. So I find it really nice that you've found some English words you like.

Gravatar I started to blog in English...because only my sister and a good friend were reading my first blog in my mother tongue Spanish!
Ambisinistrous = equally clumsy with either hand, love it!! I'll have to remember this. See? I also learn some new English words and expressions every day. Have a happy Monday!

Gravatar Ambisinistrous is a wonderful word. Thinking of the derivation and the meaning makes me laugh. I have thought of making an alphabet book for my grandchildren your picture illustration has emcouraged me.

I like quotes too.

Gravatar that's a new word for me, although I knew ambidextrous.

I have so much respect for people who speak more than one language.

Gravatar I think we sit in the same boat ! I have worked for American companies all my life, but of course that is another vocabulary. German is my mother tongue, french I learned when I came here in 59, Italian with my husband. I understand dutch very well but not all flemish people. I made a roundtrip through Turkey with a flemish group, but they had all another accent or dialect the result was they didn't even understand each other and the poor guide who spoke a perfect dutch couldn't understand them at all ! I have no difficulties when I watch the flemish news, though ! I also noticed that most of the french speaking Belgians only speak french (in my generation) now the generation of my son is completely different they learned english and flemish.

Gravatar Like some of the other commenters have already said, I am really impressed with your grasp of English. And you taught me a new word! I had never heard "ambisinistrous" before even though it describes me very well.

Gravatar I've loved your blog from the start. I even tried to decipher your belgian one...especially those recipes!

I often forget english is not your first language, you write it so well. Thanks for sharing so much of you with us, it's been a joy!

Gravatar I love your choice of flabbergasted and the photo that illustrates it. Perfect!
Thank you for a wonderful post on the topic of Words, and for joining in on the MOB's FM.
We look forward to reading more!

Gravatar Love your attitude toward language. It makes me sad when I hear people say that English should be our national language or when we--English speaking people--expect everyone to understand us when traveling to other countries. OWH had it right words have so many meanings, dependingon the context and the person who's speaking.

Gravatar Wow, I am so impressed with your English skills! I have never heard of ambisinistrous before - but I am ambisinistrous too!

Gravatar You totally taught me a fun word today! I love Ambisinistrous. I can't wait to use it in a sentence!

Gravatar i used to use that word flabbergasted a lot when i was younger, but it has been a long time since i used it. nice post
