With the authors you cite, it would seem that the aggiornamento is most faithful when paired with ressourcement, the deepening of the faith through contact with the vital moments of the past. Ressourcement is not merely intellectual, but involves an investigation of how the expressions of history respond to a human need that is still perceived.
