Yes, we can all agree, I think, that life should be happier than a country song. And yet, there's Vern's own comment when someone mentioned all the bad luck he'd had -- "Oh, I don't know. I got 10 hit songs out of my last divorce."

Maybe that's what St. Augustine meant when he said that "God judged it better to bring good out of evil, than not to permit any evil to exist." [Enchiridion xxvii)
