Gravatar These guards are utter morons.

Gravatar i read the portion about the guards to my mom, so she had a good morning laugh
i wonder what the reaction of the guard would had been if he was the husband, father, or son of a knitter?
i mean, would you not had been blown away if he asked which color you carried in your dominant hand?! or if he gave you a review of your needles and told you about the ones he prefers?!
okay, back to reality ... i've tried the afterthought heel. i do like how (with striping yarns) the leg is not interrupted and the heel looks like a little bullseye, but ... i'm not so good at figuring out where to put it, and the fit is just not like a good 'ole heelflap!
after i establish my stitches of the gusset, i am all smiles because it's all downhill from there
your boobholder is looking lovely. i noticed that yours doesn't have the puffed sleeves (yet?), or you're not a puffy sleeve girl (yes, i'll go with that option). i found a ball of kureyon in my stash. one ball. and i too am tempted to knit up a lizard ridge square. that blanket was the BEST think in knitty, in YEARS, ... EVER!
enjoy your holiday! i look forward to the progress pictures upon your return (no pressure

Gravatar yay - seattle and portland! have a great time (and drink lots of awesome local beer)!!

Gravatar please. I would have done the same thing...

Love the socks...they are absolutely stunning. and theylook sooo soft.

Love that noro.

Gravatar Sorry about your altercation at the Portrait Gallery. I volunteer there and the guards can be questionable. Maybe next time offer to put your WMD in a locker. They don't allow visitors to carry water around, it has be in a bag or locker, so I am not surprised they did not allow the knitting needles. They aren't necessarily weapons, but a crazy person could some major damage to a painting with knitting needles. But please visit again! The American Art Museum and Portrait Gallery are my favorite Smithsonian Museums.

Gravatar The stockings look great! And that Noro! what colorway? It's gorgeous. Have fun in my neck of the woods on vacation!

Gravatar That is ridiculous - you can fly with knitting needles, but you might gouge someone's eyes out in the National Gallery?!

I love how the stripes are turning out on the boobholder - I think it's hard to find patterns that Noro looks good in sometimes.

Gravatar Can you please STOP with the unbearably cute shoes?!? Haha, the alpaca socks look fabulous, too. I'm kinda bummed to read that you used #2's, since I wanted to use my alpaca (from the same bag as yours) for my Sock Wars project, but the gauge is not right.

Gravatar How did this post get past me? I just saw it today...

Crazy stuff about the museums. Rest assured that when I am a museum director, I will make it a mandate that knitting needles are ALWAYS aloud! I get into the Library of Congress every week with my needles... weirdos.

Girl, have the best time possible in OR and WA. I will miss you. I hope you and Mr. Cobra have a relaxing time.

Love the Noro!

xoxo

PS--Can we talk before you leave? any plans this weekend?

Gravatar The socks came out great! That is too weird - I guess they were afraid you may poke one of the portraits with your needles!

Gravatar that story is unreal. just shows what's wrong with security at a lotta places -- guards busying themselves with arguments about harmless items. was there no place to check your bag? and when does it end -- frankly, you could strangle someone with a necklace or shoelace.

Gravatar Gorgeous alpaca socks! It's too bad about guards being jerks about needles; maybe there would be more handknits in the world if the non-knitters would just understand that we mean them no harm.

Gravatar I think some certain guards are being a little overjealous in their jobs!

LOVE the socks! Those turned out so cute and the color is delightful. Have so much fun on vacation!

Gravatar Lovely socks! I have an alpaca addiction myself.

I live/work in the area too and out of curiousity after reading your blog I found this: http://www.si.edu/visit/ security...nd_policies.htm
My personal experience has been that every Security Guard interprets the rules differently and apply them at will and per their current mood.

My biggest problem has been my cell phone with a camera in Federal facilities for work. I haven't been told to lose my knitting anywhere, but I only use circulars. Maybe they appear less threatening.

As a side note: I also love how the museum has banned bagged lunches and now charge an arm and a leg for food and drink. They know you don't want to go in and out through the Security point so you pony up the money. We were stuck last year in the American History Museum on a very, very cold February day.

Gravatar Gosh, all your socks look great! I love the alpaca ones the most, but I admire your ambition to make those stockings. Congrats!

Gravatar Just had the same thing happen yesterday at the Portrait Gallery, with 10in bamboo straights. Hadn't even thought about it, as I've been in several otehr museums (incl. the Sackler/Freer yestaday as well) with them, as I almost always have a project in my purse. The thing I found amusing is that I saw lots of people in various parts of the museum with pens and othersuch implements -- aren't those just as likely to be sued for nefariuos purposes?
