Gravatar Funny, I see similar patterns in my college students. The women, when we're out in the field, a lot of them are really into what is going on - they see something "weird" that they don't know what it is, and they're calling me over to tell them about it. But some of the guys, unfortunately, seem to have bought into the "cool" stereotype where showing interest in anything is forbidden. (Fortunately not all of the guys).

I actually do kind of enjoy the gee-whiz Natural History aspect of the field labs, though I am trying to teach them sampling techniques and stuff. Today I was showing the students about spittle bugs and they couldn't believe that something so gross could come out of an insect. (And be used to protect the larvae...)

We spent about 10 minutes today watching a crab spider catch and consume a small butterfly.
