This Is Not A Democracy, It's A Republic........

Just to clarify, recording someone over the phone (as an individual) varies by state.
Many states require you to have consent of both callers—some require you only to have permission of one, meaning that if you are a participant, then your permission is implicit and you can feel free to record it.
Government ability to record a conversation is severely restricted beyond that. But you know what? Go ahead and record my conversations. And when your ears start bleeding, don't blame me.

Let me just jump on this one and request that Will bring some evidence of wrongdoing to the table.
"I think that maybe it is wrong to monitor terrorists and their associates in some way on principle that I have no way of really substantiating" isn't really cutting it.
Perhaps a court ruling? A law somewhere? Give me something. Show me the money.
I await a humbling at his capable hands...

My conversations range from "ears bleeding" to so mundane, I bore myself. Record away.

You gotta know when to hold'em and when to fold'em. I concede.
To be honest, I'm not really that passionate about this subject and I don't really care to do any research on it. I gave it a good run, though.
And though I won't admit that you're right, I do give you props for outlasting me on this one.
Have a good day everyone.

And to you my faithful adversary.
BTW...Where abouts in Wis. are you from, generally. I live right on the border of Mn. and Wi. and get around the western portion of Wi. pretty often. I used to be the editor at a newspaper in Balsam Lake.
Are we neighbors?

I was actually born in Janesville, WI but I am now an asst. editor at a newspaper in Little Rock, AR.
I was up in Wisco over the holidays, though. I was reminded of my appreciation for southern girls after that trip.

Ah, this is kinda cute.
See, we can all get along.
This is a good example of two people on opposite sides of the political spectrum that are adults, and can converse in a mature nature.
Does the heart good, it's so rare to see.
Thanks Pat, and you too Will.
Oh, and for old times sake, Hey Will, SUCK IT. : )

Yup, it's all warm and fuzzy up in here. Better stir it up soon or we'll all be holding hands and singing Cumbayah. Hell, I don't even know if I spelled that right and I don't feel like looking it up.
You suck it, Jenn. Your mom did.
Now that high standard just sunk way back below zero. Doesn't that feel better?
I'm out of here for the day - How about an Abramoff post?

Gosh Jenn: Your commenters are so nice... I don't get to use any of my best lib blasts! Darn! Well, I am overquota for skewering moonbats today anyway.
I just wanted to thank you for dropping by Mike's America and please do return soon.
I occasionally get a socialist from San Diego Mike V:

Don't know if you ever run across him, but he's on the socialist kool aid flavor of the month program.
Thanks again for your comment and hope to see you again soon.

my thought is this....if I was talking to someone in Afghanistan I would assume, no expect, that my conversation is recorded. Bottom line is that a vast vast majority of americans will never be "spied" on. If they think they will then perhaps they shouldn't ever get in a car again because their chances of dying in a car accident are much much greater than being "spied" on by our government. And even if they were, if they don't have anything to hide, then what should they be worried about?
