I did a bit on this topic when the 'Truth About Hillary' came out - great book.
I posed a question to all my lefty readers: What states can Hillary win that Kerry could not win in '08?
Answers I got back....none!

Nice call, Will.
I'm thinking even a Jerry Springer/Ray "Chocolate Thunder" Nagin ticket would stand a pretty good chance against any Republican not named McCain or Hagel.
And it's hilarious that those Republicans that are considered frontrunners for the '08 ticket (excepting those currently under investigation) are in total non-media lockdown.
Because good GOP politics = keeping your distance and keeping your mouth shut.

When it comes time to seriously deal with Iran, free people everywhere are going to be damn glad we have troops on the ground in the region.
In fact, without those troops, which could be amassed on the Iranian border with relative ease as opposed to say...from here...dealing with Iran would be impossible.
But I'm sure that never played into the strategy in Iraq. Noooo. Those idiots at the Pentagon would never think that far ahead.
They just wanted Iraq's oil.

BTW...She is pretty deep in the "culture of corruption" scandal report releaswed today.
To answer Will's question, I'm not nervous about Hillary at all. She is one of the dirtiest politicians in Washington and any party that gets behind her on a platform of "ending corruption" will fail miserably.
Maybe that's why Reid is apologizing to Republicans today.
Note also that in order to get elected, she is forsaking yammers like Will. If she, or any other Democrat wins the presidency, it will be because they abandoned the unhinged like Will, not embraced them.
Sucks to be hysterical.

TP,
WTF is a "yammer." Is that slang for sweet-potato farmer?
If you're out there using, or worse, attempting to coin political gotcha terms, the first thing you want to do is make sure they're not stupendously lame.
Definition of "hysterical" as found in the Teaparty Political Dictionary for the Ethically Challenged: 1. reasonable, sound- minded 2. concerned for America's future 3. generally frowns on corporate corruption and undue influence in governmental policy-making 4. believes in equal opportunity (even for minorities) 5. deplores intellectual dishonesty and the marketing of ignorance.
TP, say something that's true once in a while if only to throw the devil off your trail.

To answer Will's whine,"Do you really think it's going to be hard for Hillary - or any democrat, for that matter - to win in 08'".
Yes.
For all the self righteous yammering you liberals do about corruption on the right, you seem to heartily embrace one of your own who is just as bad, if not worse.
Talk about hypocritical.
I'm not so much worried about Hillary, it's the mindset of those that think she is a viable candidate. Those are the ones who worry me. Having that many mentally unhinged people running around makes me as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

"Having that many mentally unhinged people running around makes me as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs."
Add incompetent to that list and there you have the Bush Administration. Nice description. And it makes me nervous, too.
Can I propose a rule? Let's stop using "yammer" and its various forms. I know, it's not my blog, but still.
This whole argument over who's more or less corrupt than others needs to just be squelched. They're all corrupt, in some way or another. It's the ones that are corrupt and incompetent that are the danger. Rummy, Dubya, WhipDick, KrazyKarl and company (Brownie, DeLizzle, etc...)have done a bang-up job.
I'm in no way "heartily embracing" her, but at least Hillary is smart enough to run the country if the need be.

Will, just when I think I finally found a "good" liberal, you let me down. I am so dissapointed in you.
One thing I fail to understand is how, if Dubya, and Cheney,et al, are so "incompetent", as you say, how is it they are able to do what they do.
I mean according to some on your side, they were able to plot in advance of the 2000 election to have Bush win, have terrorists fly planes into the WTC (of course there were explosives set up by some schmoes who know). Then they were able to manipulate all the terrorists to claim responsibility for several different attacks. All to get oil. That of course we aren't getting.
Jesus, they're freakin; brilliant.

Well, none of that applies to me, but I think it'd be hard for anyone with an open mind to look at the Bush years thus far and say they were on top of their game. It's been one failure and controversy after another.
Jesus, we even have the families of our troops offering to pay for the right armor for their loved ones who are over there. (Which was denied, by the way.)

Will,
From one liberal to another, I have to mention that I don't think Jenn really cares what you have to say.
You could walk off Mount Sinai with the lost commandments carved on a couple of stone tablets and if they didn't fit her narrow, with-us-or- against-us worldview she would look at them and say: "What happened to Hilary's medical health plan? Huh?"
She's a pawn in the game, my friend. It would probably take a dedicated team of researchers at least a month to count the number of American flag decals she's got stuck, tattooed, drawn, pinned, hung, painted, planted or otherwise attached to her body, her property, or her premises. America is not her country, it's her "team."
To her, democracy is a game one plays. War is bloodsport in an arena somewhere far off. And it's not innocent people's children being butchered in front of them, or young lives being irrevocably shattered because of the deeply cynical decision-making of a God-honest fool and fuck-up like George W. Bush. It's all just a game.
And Will, don't forget to bring along yer pom-poms.

TP,
I think this serves as a fine example of what I'm talking about.
Limited only to this conversation, the following qualifies as a shameless falsehood:
In fact, without those troops, which could be amassed on the Iranian border with relative ease as opposed to say...from here...dealing with Iran would be impossible.
So, had we not launced Operation Iraqi Turd Blossom, then we'd have no chance at "dealing" with Iran. You are a master writer of farce, my friend.
So you believe a significant part of our rational for invading Iraq was to amass troops on Iran's border and make a push for Tehran? Ahmadinejad is laughing at us, TP, provoking us. With a sinister mujahideen grin, he is challenging us. He perceives that American foreign policy under Bush is one giant beached whale, and he is stoked about it.
And that's not farce, it's potentially tragic.

Hey Mad,
You have no credibility. Nor do you have a dog in this fight. Nor is your link evidence of anything other than your ability to insert HTML code.
What your comment does prove is that you are totally and completely ignorant of military strategy and logisitics. Why am I not suprised?
If you honestly think that having a base of operations on the ground, neighboring Iran, does not have the potential to be an advantage in the future, you are even more MOron.org'd than I thought.
Noting that advantage is not true or untrue. It is "deductive," a really big word that has a really big meaning whose definition would be lost on you.
Why don't you let Will speak for himself on this one. Although he is still a yammer, next to yours his thoughts are so deep he is Stuart Smalley.
About the only thing you accomplish when you type is to remind me why I will never again be a liberal. It sucks being the smartest guy in the room all the time; a situation that you, luckily, will never have to experience.

...dealing with Iran would be impossible
Is this deduction? No, it's utter bullshit. It's completely dishonest. In other words, it's a falsehood, a lie.
I linked to your website, TP, because this type of thinking is your mode: deliberately and unabashedly misleading or outright false.
No one doubts that you do your homework, TP. But it's obvious that your research is all about shoring up the false premise. This is propaganda 101 and it's getting stale.
I know, you'll ask me for an example of a false premise you've built. But any response will simply cue another series of excruciating talking points. Nevertheless:
About the only thing you accomplish when you type is to remind me why I will never again be a liberal
You actually want us to buy the premise that you are somehow open to change; that if the right argument were made, you'd actually consider becoming a liberal.
Further, you want us to believe that becoming a liberal would be a return to your roots; that you, with all of your Republican war-paint were once a liberal, presumably before you "woke up," or "the party abandoned you." Just another false premise you're floating.
You have no credibility. Nor do you have a dog in this fight.
That's right. You need a special pass, issued by the RNC to discuss national security. And if you happen to be a decorated war veteran with profound concerns for the nation and its armed forces, then you're most likely, "hysterial," or "unhinged," and are treated accordingly.
TP -- you're just out there desperately defending toxic turf, preventing the clean-up crews from coming in. My advice is to start thinking about what's best for the American people, all of them, and not what spin best supports your narrow ideology.

Well gosh rube, right now the Republicans hold all three branches, Regardless of what happens in the fall they will likely maintain control of at least two.
It is just as conceivable that they will maintain control of all three.
Also, most of the Dem's that are running this year are making efforts to appeal to moderate and conservative voters. Why? Because they understand that your political doctrine is not electable.
It seems to me you lose either way. Even if the Dem's do get one house back, they will have done so by pretending you don't exist. Hardly a win for you.
In your simple mind, the Dem's gaining control of one branch of government would mean that the GOP is on the road to obsolete. Except of course, for those other two pesky branches.
I don't pretend for a second that if the GOP maintains control, you would actually admit that the infantile rantings of the fake-left are a thing of the past. More likely I could look forward to two more years of tantrums.
You believe whatever you want to believe. Your denial actually helps me so, keep it up. Don't take my word for it though. Just about every serious Dem strategist is screaming that the party needs to give up the "kumbayah crap."
That's you.
Maybe you should consider moving to Cuba where freedom still prevails.

Wow people, you sure have a lot of feelings and "great arguments". Oh my it makes me sick to see people jabbering on about these issues just because they have a feeling. Have you done your research everybody? Has everyone thought about it with a real open mind. Not the open-mind that throws out anything old because the new presented some nifty meaningless facts. So instead of claiming you are the right one, figure out that not everyone out there in politics are stupid and out for money. On the contrary they have most likely been nominated because they were smart.
Have a real open mind. Know what needs to get done, how it will get done, how it will affect things in the long run, and a million more etceteras. And believe me, for the best choice, you will have to experience it from about a million sides, and with your good will given to you from the start of life choose the best. Not just take offence and sling mud. I'm talking to both sides.
And I'm not against free speach, just people who use it to yell loudly and tick off a bunch of people.
