This Is Not A Democracy, It's A Republic........

Gravatar I agree with most of your list, especially - big government sucks.

Conservatism used to represent that ideal. Now, I don't know what the hell it is supposed to mean, but a lot of nuts have crawled out of the woodwork.

The far left is crazy. So is the far right.

I don't blame the rich, except for the people like the chaps at Enron, etc. Come on, you have to admit that they're not the only fuckers to do that kind of shit. They just got caught.

I disagree on a few things.

We need to secure our borders. Good luck closing them. Hey, how about spending more homeland security money on higher risk states rather than spreading it all evenly? Just a thought. North Dakota gets the same as California. lol

Government is one big conspiracy after another.

War is not always necessary. If we're so concerned about everyone else's welfare, then why aren't we in Africa preventing genocide? How about they don't have any resources that we're interested in?

Re: the President's spending binge - come on, people didn't see that coming? His Social Security program was a joke - more money tossed at special interest groups. It got shut down because even those loafs in congress know not to shit where they eat.

Reagan was the last real republican. HE made me proud to be an American.

Gravatar I said war is necessary, not ALWAYS necessary. And we aren't Africa, I'm talking about our own collective asses.

Secure, close... whatever. My thought, is to close the borders. Send every single illegal regardless of where they are from, back home. Take non-violent criminals, and place them in the fields picking shit. And take the welfare nation, and make them work those "jobs no one wants to do" for their freakin' monthly check.

I couldn't care less about Enron, that's for the courts to decide. Let 'em fry in court.

The ones pissing me off right now are the Top Gas companies, claiming these record profits. Good thing I already drive a very gas efficient car.

Gravatar "I voted for a man who promised to cut the pork. I voted for a president who promised to work on our welfare nation, social security(though I am aware of the huge resistance from the left). I voted for a man who promised to work on ejecting illegal immigrants who bleed dry the over taxed system, who suck up badly needed educational dollars, medical benefits for legal citizens, and plague our police, border patrol, and lives."
-------------
This was your mistake, Jenn......You should have known better.

I too voted for Bush, and would have done so a 100 times out of 100......The other option was HORRRRRRRIBLE!!!

Bush isn't great domestically and on spending.....No doubt about it.

But he's been very good on the GWOT, and put 2 great judges on the SCOTUS (I still can't figure out why he picked Myers, but she's history).......He's also put great judges on the appeals courts, and a brilliant man in the U.N. (Bolton).

Bush has also managed to keep both houses of Congress.......He performed a miracle in 2002, when everyone thought he was going to give it away. Is he going to drop seats in 2006? Probably. But look at history, only a few second term presidents haven't.

Again, Bush isn't perfect.....No one is.

Most Conservatives love Ronald Reagan, but last I checked he spent like a mother, too.....And he gave a brutal amnesty agreement to millions of Illegals.

Again, Bush isn't perfect.....But he's a hell of a lot better than Kerry.

Bush is solid in the two areas I feel strongest about: Defense and the Courts.

He could do much more, but I'm not a utopian......Hugh Hewitt has the perfect quote:

"Don't hate the good, because its not the better."

Gravatar Hey now Pero, I never said I'd have rather had Kerry.Scary, freak that he is.

I like Bush, but he's just stopped being an effective president.

Gravatar Kerry may have run a scarily ineffective campaign, but he's no freak, Jenn.

Just someone who volunteered and served in Vietnam and had the guts to speak out about the war from his own experience when he returned. Just someone who continues to speak on behalf of veterans jilted by the government they served to this day. You may not like his liberal politics, or his stand against environmental degradation, or the way he appears to you, but a scary freak is someone like Bin Laden, not John Kerry.

Gravatar Nope, Scary, freak. Yup.

Scary, because of his policies.

Freak because of his policies.

But, now that you mention it, he's isn't very attractive.

And his little speeches when he returned from Vietnam did far more damage to those who honorably served, than his “fake” injuries did to him.

He was there for 4 months, and didn't see any real combat. So he had very limited experience.

Let's ask the EU for permission before we use the loo, that's what sKerry'd have us do.

Bin Laden isn't scary. He's a *&^%&*)*&^%%^&*()_)(*&^%@#$%^&*()!!!!!!!!

Gravatar And his little speeches when he returned from Vietnam did far more damage to those who honorably served, than his “fake” injuries did to him.

And what damage did America's political and military leaders in that period do to those who honorably served?

Let's ask the EU for permission before we use the loo, that's what sKerry'd have us do.

What the hell is this, Jenn? It makes the phrase "dumbing down the debate" seem euphemistic.

Gravatar I'm sorry Mad obviously you didn't watch the debates.

I'm sorry were we talking about others besides Kerry. You act as though I think he's the only one responsible for a f*ck up back then. (Besides Jane Fonda).

Gravatar Can't say I agree the Administration is hopeless, but at least you're honest. And at least your not a left wing nut job.

Gravatar lol @ left wing nut job.

It's amazing to me how people classify anything other than "staunch Republican't" as left wing nut job.

Open your eyes, you're being manipulated by an administration that's brewing a deadly combination of religion, xenophobia and so called patriotism.

Jenn: re: "we're not Africa". Um, no kidding. We're not Iraq, either. You made my point for me, thanks.

You couldn't care less about Enron? If your life savings had been raped away from you by some gutless fuck who only cared about lining his pockets, THEN you'd care? In other words, it didn't happen to you so who gives a shit? Well, John Q Taxpayer carries the burden of cost for quite a bit associated with their downfall, so even if you could care less about the families decimated by their lack of moral fiber, maybe you should at least look to your own pocketbook.

I'm still looking for someone to tell me why Kerry was so scary other than the chimp in chief calling him a flip flopper and a bunch of who cares type bs surrounding his service in Viet Nam.

Gravatar Here you go Matt, for some perspective.

Last year, we lost our house and everything we owned due to asbestos, and it was the direct result of negligence on the side of our landlord. In the cold pouring rain in February, the day of our 6th anniversary, we were told to leave the residence, find a hotel and deal. We had nothing but the clothes we wore, which themselves were contaminated, and we had to go get clothes to wear to the hotel. Nothing else, not even a toothbrush.

To this date, we have not collected a friggin' dime. Not for rent already paid, not for the hotel we lived in for a few weeks until we could find a place that rented to dog owners, not for anything. Not one F*CKING dime.

We lost well over $150,000 worth of personal property, family heirlooms, our peace of mind and our home. We lost all of our wedding pictures, my wedding dress, our furniture, and memorabilia. EVERYTHING.

I make a decent income, but I am far from "rich", FAR from it. My husband is a mover. He makes sh*t for money. And if we'd not had a couple of emergency credit cards, then, Matt, my friend, we'd be living in my car.

So, excuse me if I have very little pity for the rich who lost a bunch of money with Enron. Do I feel bad for them, sure. But, frankly, I've got my own problems.

As for the Africa "thing", they aren't currently planning on blowing us up, if they do, we'll add them to the list for a visit. K.

Gravatar Last year, we lost our house and everything we owned due to asbestos, and it was the direct result of negligence on the side of our landlord.

It sounds like it wasn't your house. But I get the point.

We lost well over $150,000 worth of personal property, family heirlooms, our peace of mind and our home. We lost all of our wedding pictures, my wedding dress, our furniture, and memorabilia. EVERYTHING.

No renter's insurance, huh.

Did your landlord keep secret the fact that there was asbestos in the home? How did you eventually find out? If I were you, I would call the law offices of Joanie-loves-Chachi and get some damages. It's a hassle, but what choice do you have? Do you say, "Oh, well. You took everything we had. Have a good one?"

So, excuse me if I have very little pity for the rich who lost a bunch of money with Enron. Do I feel bad for them, sure. But, frankly, I've got my own problems.

Well, a lot of big investors lost money, but most of the amazing, vanishing pensions were the former property of low and mid-level workers. Enron execs are easy to loathe, but those guys learn management and IB audacity in business school where it's taught. Trust me.

I agree that it's hard to have pity on the rich as they "drink martinis and watch the sun rise," while the folks they build their fortunes upon slave away 68 years, often for nothing. But it's always been the powerless that get the institutional f-bomb.

I'm just guessing here: you believe in less business regulation, you're against unions, and trial attorneys make your skin crawl?

It sucks that you guys lost all your property. I'd be interested to know what action you did take against your former landlord. But I realize you may not want to make that public. Just tell me you did something!

Gravatar "I'm just guessing here: you believe in less business regulation, you're against unions, and trial attorneys make your skin crawl?"

I have no problem with business reg., to a point.
Yes, I abhor unions.
Attorneys in general make my skin crawl. Especially, the landlords' attorney. Mine are o.k.

Yes, we are doing something, but a year later, we are pretty much screwed. Our credit is in the not so proverbial sh*tter, and I probably drink way more than I should these days.

Good thing the hubby and I love each other a lot. I have a feeling if it were someone else, the marriage would be kaput too.

No, the asbestos was not disclosed to us upon leasing the unit. It's a really long story. And it makes me sick each time I re-live it.

Oddly enough, renters insurance does not cover asbestos damages.

Gravatar Jenn,

Renter's insurance doesn't cover asbestos damages? That sucks!

Are they saying that having asbestos fibers in your furniture because of a landlord's negligence does not cause irreparable damage to it? Maybe they think you should just break out the dustbuster, and stop bitching. Jesus! I can't believe that your case against this s.o.b. isn't a -- what were George Tenet's supposed words? -- "home run."

The landlord's case must be that he didn't know it was there, that the former owner had either misled him or kept him in the dark. Or, it's somehow not his legal responsibility to ensure that the property he's renting won't potentially ruin the health of his tenants, but how can that be?

You don't even need to go into it. Just stop drinking so much: it costs money and, like asbestos, it will eventually kill you.

You are blessed to have the support of a strong marriage. And you're pretty feisty -- I, for what it's worth, am betting you'll make it through.

Gravatar Oddly enough, that was the landlord's first reaction. And, the first night, not only did we stay there, sleeping in it, my husband and I spent hours trying to clean it, by vaccuming and wiping things down. Not knowing we were making it even worse.

At the time we had no freakin' idea, he kept saying it wasn't asbestos. Then we had an expert come in and he said it was the worst he'd ever seen, and we had to leave everything behind. They ran tests and it was a high concentration of absestos. It was bad, and now, after extensive research I know that this sh*t get's everything, but perhaps a few hard surfaced items. But it took the asshole 5 months to get an asbestos removal team in, and by that time, we'd bought new(cheap) replacements, and most of it was filthy, covered in dust and stinky from the refrigerator that went bad after the power went out.

My "favorite" part was when the landlord, said it was my fault, because I'd requested the ceilings be cleaned.

After the fires in 2003, our ceilings were black. And me, being the anal retentive housekeeper I am,I was appalled that I had black ceilings. Both my husband and I had several sinus infections that year. Then the rains brought bad mold in, it was bad, the ceilings needed repair. My neighbors all had theirs re-done. By reputable companies. My landlord decided to go, the "hire illegal day laborers from a street corner" route. And the rest is history.

It's almost been a year.

Does give you perspective though, and we have a storage thing now, where we keep half of our new photos and such, So if anything like this happens again, at least we've got some kind of back up.

Makes you get less attached to "things".

It would be better if we could say we have our health, but we wallowed in that crap for 2 days, not knowing it was asbestos. We should be fine, but it only takes one fiber, and we inhaled millions.

Wow, what a pity party that was... moving on.

Gravatar I'm sorry to hear about your loss; I've lost family members but never my home. I wish you the best.

However, the folks at Enron who lost money were just like you - the higher ups skated off with their money. The information is there, all you have to do is reach for it. Personally, I don't believe in hell. If I did, I'd like to see all of those who profited from that situation choking on their own bloody cocks for eternity.

Re: Africa - sigh. Iraq wasn't after us, they were contained. Who cares. We toppled a nation with the sole intention of taking their resources and lining the pockets of already wealthy men and their pet companies.

As far as Africa is concerned - just wait. Where there's poverty, hunger, hopelessness and disease, there is a proving ground for "terrorists".

Gravatar wow a very deluded letter and very senile so keep on deluding on your devil worshipping bohemian homo loving president

I think the word fuck you on the last part would be great since he is not a republican...

oh and still not a liberal

Gravatar Huh? To Anon.

Gravatar America sucks

Gravatar Brilliant commentary there noromance. Bet you had to kick up one helluva brainstorm to spit that one out. And you know of a better place to live????

Gravatar Uh, for lack of better terminology, you suck, No Romance. Maybe that's why you get "no romance"?

Gravatar Jenn,

You hate unions? I doubt that. Do you really hate the eight-hour work day? Do you dream of working a 14 or 16 hour day? Do you hate having the weekend off? Does it bug you that many employers feel obligated to provide health insurance, pensions, and other benefits to employees? Do you hate job safety? Do you hate the fact that your husband is less likely to die at his job because of a century of labor struggles on his behalf? Do you hate the fact that we now have unemployment and disability insurance for employees? Do you hate that we have created--albeit a very poor one--a social safety net for those of us who "fall through the cracks"?

Jenn I hate the business unions we have just as much as anybody. But try and remember that they do not represent the best of unions and there are really great unions out there. It's like saying, "I hate black people." Don't stereotype all unions as one thing.

The truth is you love all the many wonderful advances that the labor movement has fought for and won. You and your husband and every American in this country has benefited from the labor movement. Your wages are higher as a result of the labor movement in this country. Democracy is stronger in this country in direct proportion to the strength of the labor movement.

Guess what? Countries without labor unions don't have democracy. Countries with strong labor unions have strong demoracies. Kinda cool how that works, huh?

Why don't you work for forty cents an hour? Is it because you're smarter than some guy in China? Is it because you're more noble? Better educated? Or is it because you have inherited the good fortune of a century plus of dedicated, organized labor organization. What you see in China and other places of the world is no different than what happened here a hundred years ago.

Don't hate unions. Hate the anti-democratic forces within unions. Hate unions that try and mimick big business with top-down authority instead of open and transparent democracy. That is, hate the anti-labor elements within the labor movement, but don't hate the movemetn.
