I doubt these paranoia-induced right addicts even realize the numbers involved in actually listening to calls.
Do they really think that the NSA has 100, even 100,000 people listening to phone calls? Bullshit. It's computers which flag phone calls which have been made to suspected terrorist cells and/or to anyone that CAN be suspect.
And if people think the NSA is going to make their phone sex conversation public... I think they should have thier lips ripped off.

First they came for the islamists.
I was not one so I said get'em!
Then they came for the ACLU.
I was not a member so I said, HUH..?
Then they came for the independants.
I was not one so I said "things a scary these days."
Then they came for me.
And all that was left to stop them. Was them. Republicans.
It is not that I have anything to hide. It's the point that this nation is great because of the contitution, not in spite of it. The laws are here for a reason. Do you think that freedoms and protection for privacy are there as typos. That they have no reason to be there and Bush finally got rid of them for our own good? Think.
Those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither. Oh and a side point. The wiretaps are illegal under us law. Executive order or no. Thank god we are devided into three branches so that the government can never be fully controlled by one group. We are in a dark place in history. Trust me on that one. oh yeah. Read! for the love of god read, and quit watching fox news. Talking points are bad for you. Thank you for your time.

They make it sound like they're spying on EVERYONE. But unless Muhammed Muhammed Al-Muhammed the suspected terrorist calls from another country, you're not gonna get tapped. People don't get it.

Going with Mike's theory, then we shouldn't have sex offender registries. Because we are violating their rights to molest people? Or sorry their freedom of privacy.
I f*cking laugh so hard when people tell me to read. Geezus....I read until my eyes hurt, fiction,non-fiction, blogs, the MSM, the newspaper. I Google until my fingers hurt.
I have critical thinking skills, really. But some things take common sense alone.

If you read as much as you say you do, then you'd know that it was much more than just terrorists and Muslims they authorized call-screening for.
That's false talking point No. 1 with you people on this issue. Always with the terrorists and the scare tactics.
If you'll remember last month when Gretzky's gambling ring was busted up, it was because of an authorized wire tap. And that's just for an example.
I also wanted to note that this might be a record thread! Jenn hasn't mentioned that she's married to a legal immigrant or that she does various volunteer work yet!
However, we did have a scary visualization of Jenn's beer-inflated brazilian wax area. Doh!

"I have nothing to hide." A nice, good, meaningless justification.
Here in the United States, we create laws based on protecting the rights of people, not extending power to those in office. In this case, the Bush Administration had FISA on their side, they could have gotten warrants even AFTER THE FACT, but failed to do so.
Rather than asking, "what do I have to hide?" you should be asking, "If I am a legitimate concern to the safety of the United States, why can't officials get a warrant?"
You and your cohorts must be unfamiliar with the Constitution; especially since you're attacking the fourth amendment (i.e. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized), rather than defending Bush's actions.
This is ignorance at best, blind allegiance at worst.

No Kole. It's simply that I do not care about this issue. Sure they should have gotten warrants, mainly because at this time, there wouldn't be a bunch of whining liberals from hell crying about constitutional rights. Whahhhh.
The constitution is due for a re-write anyway. I believe, spying for terrorist numbf*cks should be added.
Ever heard of probable cause.
You people take the constitution too seriously, I highly doubt that those who wrote it would take issue with the government protecting it's own people regardless of whether they are idiot liberals or not.

Jenn, I don't care much about this issue either. I'm not afraid of THEM busting down my door.
Yes, they should have gotten warrants. And to those people who value the Constitution (as you apparently do not, by your comments), that IS important. Have I ever heard of probable cause? Of course. Ever heard of FISA? Ever heard of the fourth amendment? Ever heard of RIGHTS?
Your statement about the Constitution being due for a rewrite displays your obvious ignorance on the strength of this country. America is great because of it, not in spite of it. So yes, I (and people "like me") take the Constitution very seriously. Damn, reading your post makes me think you're some redneck from the deep south, believing the law is only applicable when it favors you. You probably respect the KKK for their "patriotic" acts of "keeping American pure." The writers of the Constitution would roll in their graves if they saw the things going on today under the guise of national security.
By the way, "you conservatives" are SUPPOSED to be about small government, and the power of the people.

Ah, another close minded liberal who needs to read the mission statement at the top of my blog.
Believe me "Kole" I value the constitution, but have you ever read it. It needs updating.
See, the problem with you is that you seem to think your rights are being taken away. Now, who is taking those rights away from you by the wiretapping incident?
Kole, little Kole, they aren't listening to YOU. They aren't listening to ME. They are listening to possible terrorists. Period.
Another thing, what the f*ck is it with your type and the redneck bashing. They have their purpose. Stop bashing rednecks, they are Americans too.
The writers of the constitution would be rolloing in their graves all right, at the lack of patriotism, the hatred from the left of this country and the non unity displayed to the world as a whole.
No, Kole, I am about as far from a redneck as one could get, but people like you make me want to yack.
Read the mission statement at the top of this blog, sums you up to a T.

You know, I thought there might be some thoughtful discussion here. I probably came to the wrong place.
First, I already said that I'm not a liberal. Liberals suck. Conservatives suck. Both create issues out of nothing, just so they have something to bitch about. If you think they're so different, please enlighten me.
But one thing that's interesting, is that you've failed to provide a single intelligent point here. This whole blog is one big name-calling, baseless-accusation making, idiotic pep rally. The best you've done is called me a stupid liberal, accused me (and liberals) of hating this country (reasons?), and defended the NSA for warrantless wiretaps (on the good faith that they would never abuse their power, ignoring the reason for the constitutional amendment in the first place).
So, aside from your foundationless statements, do you have anything creative to say? Or is it just going to be Hannity-style ranting for attention?
Kole |
03.10.06 - 2:26 pm | #

|
Jealous of Hannity huh?
My point is made in the post. I have no problem with wiretapping when it concerns looking for terrorists bent on killing another 3000+ of my countrymen and women.
None. No issue at all. As for my constitutional rights. It's my right to support the wire tapping. Period.
You argue that they may "abuse their power". Think about it....Let's say they do listen into the average American's personal phone conversations. You don't know they are... so it's not infringing on any rights, that you know of. Are you breaking the law?
I'm not a fan of big government, nor do I want a nanny state, but i'll tell you this right now, if, by listening into various phone conversations nationwide, they stop a dirty bomb from going off, they stop 9/11 part duex... then frankly, I'm fine. These are the days.

The founding fathers did a great job and provided us with the foundation for the great country that exists today. I don't think they envisioned planes, and the ability for enemies (the terrorists in case you forgot) to destroy entire cities with things from the size of their horses to as small as cannon.
All those opposed to us performing the NSA terrorist surveillance program, please stop quoting Franklin and his:
"He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security."
Let's get it right:
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Since when is your phone call privacy "essential"? Essential liberties are those of property, free speech, etc. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. NOTICE "pursuit", it does not guarantee happiness. So if you are having problems with your pursuit HERE try taking it up somewhere else like communist China or NK. (And spare me the lecture, yes I am well aware “L,L,&pursuit” is part of the Declaration of Independence and not part of the Constitution.)
PS- This is obviously not in response to you Jenn but earlier posts.
