This Is Not A Democracy, It's A Republic........

Congratulations.
And speaking of how republicans vote and run elections, check out this little nugget.

Or it could have been one of the millions of "stupid people" out there. It's unfortunate that so many poorly educated, semi-literate people have the same say I do in the voting process. There should be a minimum IQ or some similar qualifier for voting.
How can a person make an intelligent choice if they can't fill out the voting card? To make it worse, in this wonderfully liberal state we have ballots in several languages to make it easier for immigrants to vote. Why? Most of them were poorly educated, semi-literate in their own countries. Does it make sense to enable them to drive politics and policy here? No!
In the "good old days" you had to read, write, and speak English fluently prior to being granted full citizenship. The liberals killed that policy as "racist" in favor of a country where any moron can vote. In the various compromises being offered by Congress on illegal immigration these policies are making a comeback. Why? Because the US doesn't need morons and Congress is finally getting that. We've got enough of those already in our various pockets of poverty around the country. What we want is educated folks (or at least ones who want an education).
Smart people should enjoy the privilege of voting.
Speaking of WTF - it's raining again for the 60th consecutive day.

Yeah, because rich=smart and poverty=stupid.
You want Paris Hilton voting? Why is it that conservative right wingers think everything is so cut and dry?

Yeah, because rich=smart and poverty=stupid.
Pete, what crevice in your ass did you pull THAT little nugget from?
I read that NO WHERE in this post.

No, Pete, I believe I addressed the issue of who should vote here:
http://takeastandagainstliberals...could-
that.html
Now, actually James, there is some truth to that statement. Maybe not Rich vs. Poor, as in all. But those who are not poor do tend to be higher on the educational ladder than those who live in abject poverty. Paris Hilton excused, she is one dumb bunny.
Not to say that all poor people are stupid. I've been poor, and I of course, am brilliant. (Hold your tongue Pete. Resist the urge.)

I just posted this a minute ago, but it didn't register, so I'll try to recreate real quick:
Don't ever accuse me of not contributing something productive here after this, chief.
Why not hold a series of public debates leading up to an election in large venues? Then voters would be required to get a card or something stamped or punched that they will show on voting day before they are allowed to vote.
That wouldn't completely solve the problem of "stupid" voters, but it would indeed weed out a large portion of those who vote just to vote and don't know anything about the issues or candidates other than PR bullshit on commercials or ads. It would also force some knowledge down the throats of those who decide to attend a debate in order to vote.
That would be on the local level, of course. I realize Presidential candidates couldn't hold multiple public debates in every town. But maybe for Presidential elections, only those voters who met the requirements to vote locally would be eligible to cast a vote for President.
This whole MTV-laden "more the merrier" push to get people to the polls is bullshit. Numbers don't mean anything to anybody, other than the candidates who put on their "hip" hats for an hour to try to look favorable to those who don't really care anyways.
Any other ideas other than just saying stupid people shouldn't vote?

Nice try Pete, but then you'd have the ACLU all over you for not including those who couldn't make it, blind people, deaf people. Whatever.
No, in this day and age, between the internet, t.v. and heck, the 50 million mailings you get, you SHOULD be able to stay informed.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for stupid.
I agree with the "more the merrier" statement though. You see it clearly with these riots/protests this week. The left is engaged in an all out war to win these potential voters. They'd sell their soul to satan for the vote. But these people, many of them, didn't even know what they were protesting for, not really.

Even if there was a cure for stupid, stupid people wouldn't be able to get it because our health care system is so fucked up.
But I digress ...
There was a man on FOX News last night (I know, sometimes it's good entertainment)who was saying that protesters across the country were divided 60 percent Democrats and 40 percent Republican, though I don't remember who it was or what kind of poll that was.
My point is that you're still not getting a point I made yesterday about you being part of the divisiveness problem by pointing out things on the left that are clearly done on the right, as well.
"The left is engaged in an all out war to win these potential voters. They'd sell their soul to satan for the vote."
I don't know how you say stuff like that without laughing. Honestly. Like the same is not true for Republicans. Hell, just look at the last Presidential campaign. Just look at McCain just last week selling his soul by cozying up to Jerry Falwell. I'll be happy to list a plethora of examples, if you'd like. But I think you know it's true.
It's politics, Jenn. It's time people stop this He said-She Said crapola and stand up for honesty and good, solid policies. It's ridiculous for me to blame everything on the right, though I tend to lean left, because they're ALL crooks, liars, thieves and con artists. (With our tax money and our futures at stake).

Here, Pete, if you want to only look at the positives, I'll send you on a scavenger hunt.
Find an honest politician. That should keep you busy. There has to be one or two out there.
I'll start. Jerry Sanders, our new Mayor, even the few lefties in San Diego have to admit he's doing a great job. And he's reaching out on both sides. Good guy. There's one. Your turn.

Maybe he was trying to figure out which name sounded the coolest, un-gay, or pro-fun and patriotic. Maybe he was just looking for a heuristic cue to lead him to voting victory. Or, maybe he just couldn't read that nice because his literacy rate are appalling.
I like your site. I can't wait to read more of your material. P.S. If the democrats got all their people like the guy you described to vote, they would win every election. However, they'd have to be led to the voting stations and also have pointed out exactly the candidate they should vote for.

LOL, maybe he was actually taking some time to decide between candidates. Not all people vote along party lines, some of us actually care what happens to our country. In this spirit, we often find it useful to KNOW WHAT THESE PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY ALL ABOUT.
Unfortunately, this can lead to a pause or two as we recall what we have read about this or that politicians voting records and so on. Voting is great, informed and careful voting is much better.

I guess Barack Obama would be considered to be a pretty solid politician.
None of our elected officials here in Arkansas are worth a damn, though our Gov is going to try to be the second man from tiny Hope, Arkansas to be president, and he's getting favorable reviews. Scary.

Hi- this is my first visit to your blog and at first I thought I had found a kindred spirit. But reading on, I'm not quite sure I know what you believe in...
Maybe its a generation gap thing, but you seem to splatter in all directions. Not meant to be overly critical of you, just curious of your central beliefs...

Core, I'm a "progressive Republican". That help?
Ryyath, there were 18 people on the ballot, if you didn't know who you were voting for when you stepped into the booth, the ballot wasn't going to help.
See, Pete, there are some good ones, and those are the ones worth fighting for.

Glad you agree, but it still doesn't address the fact that you're being hypocritical to a productive and "progressive" agenda by wasting so much time promoting hate towards the left.
We could sit here and trade off who's a lefty/righty criminal or liar all week.

Arkansas!!! That's too easy
Did you hear that they have raised the minimum drinking age in Arkansas to 32?
It seems they want to keep alcohol out of the high schools.
---
The governor's mansion in Arkansas burned down!
Yep. Pert' near took out the whole trailer park. The library was a total loss too. Both books-poof! up in flames and he hadn't even finished coloring one of them.
---
A new law was recently passed in Arkansas.
When a couple gets divorced, they are STILL cousins.
---
Relax Pete, those were called jokes and their aim is to make people laugh.

As you said, it's too easy. Glad you couldn't resist doing what every moron says when Arkansas comes up.
Speaking of trailers and Arkansas, there are still 11,500 of them sitting at the Hope, AR airport waiting for FEMA to do something about helping the people who are still homeless in NOLA. It's only been three months going on four.
After all, it was a President from Arkansas who figured out a way to balance the budget.

I went back and read what I wrote and it probably did come across as a little defensive, but I was only joking as well.
It takes a little more than a hick joke to get me fired up these days.
I just wanted to clear that up because it's pretty juvenile to sound like I got mad at that.
At any rate, stay classy San Diego.
