This Is Not A Democracy, It's A Republic........

My confusion stems from the lack of action from ICE since they all rounded themselves up very nicely - all ICE would have had to do is ask them to step onto this free shuttle right over here...

I'm afraid you're not alone in your confusion.
There are two classes in Mexico, rich and poor, because of NAFTA. Hard to run a farm when the U.S. is dumping loads of subsidized agri-product into your markets.
My old detention supervisor used to tell me every week, 'You are either part of the problem, or part of the solution.' The world is a pretty complicated place, but not so that a smart person like yourself couldn't get your head around it if you tried.
Race baiting and uber-nationalism solves nothing.
Good luck to ya, stay groovy.

I said it before and I'll say it again, Mexico is still thinking they'll make it as an agrarian society. If they want a middle class they need to boost their education standards, train existing workers for white collar jobs, and team up with Global 3000 companies to build in Mexico instead of India. There's a great business case for it if the Mexican goverment and people would just do it.
BTW - the only reason our goverment subsidizes all those tiny family farmers in the mid-west is that they're too chicken-shit to let the corporate farmers completely take over everything. Family farms that have converted from "old-school farming" to organic products have made money because organic produce typically commands a premium and costs less to produce (no pesticides). For some reason though we get nostalgic about farmers so they can slop around in the mud, run failing old tractors and lose loads of money. Why don't we do that for tech companies? I would have liked to subsidize Pets.com so we could have those sock commercials during the Super Bowl.

The Mexicans marched in my town the other day. It's funny how they want to stay in America, yet they all fly the Mexican flag.
Didn't they leave Mexico for a reason?
Fly the American flag, assholes.

Such hypocrisy. I think illegal immigration is the untapped well of public anger that has been largely ignored. i wish someone in either political party would pull their heads out of their collective anuses and do something about it. Something meaningful.

You can complain of where we are now, or if it was effective but... What was one main order when the military went in to Iraq?
Do not fly the US flag from HMMWVs, tanks, etc. Flying the flag in another country is psychologically harmful to the Iraqis.
By flying the Mexican flag in this country you look like an invading army. How you wouldn't expect a hostile response, I don't know.

What the F#@K?!?!?!? Reckless burning of a Mexican flag? North of the border its a rag, maybe south of the border its supposed to mean something. Lets hope he was just in violation of a burn ban because of the dry conditions.

Maybe if you toned down your rhetoric and focussed it on those that deserve it - the drug runners, the gangbangers, the violent criminals - as opposed to Mexican immigrants, you'd be more credible. It's much more difficult to frame the issue rationally.

Oh Anon, stop being so naive. This blog isn't speaking directly to any politicians. And if I'm wrong, name one that has any persuasive power to change anything. I'm sure if any of us were actually active in this argument we wouldn't be so rhetoric.

Anon, the gangbangers, drug runners and violent criminals are illegals too. You can't stop one and not the other.
And Matt, you are right, obviously.
Supposedly we live in a republic, where the officials we elect carry out our wishes. Instead, we get, on both sides, mealy mouthed wimps who pander to those who can't even vote. It's a joke.

Isnt it funny (Not funny haha but funny hmmm) that NAFTA has made sure Mexico has only 2 classes of citizens and yet the liberals in this country blame Bush for NAFTA, even THOUGH it was a Clinton thing?
Same thing with China.
But I digress, you are on-point with your confusion except to say that there were 6 arrests at the demonstration from people assaulting the police. They want the charges against the protestors dropped but the flag burner prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Once again, they prove that it is only their view and opinion that should be heard and recognised...not only that, they are above the law.
Time for the free pass to stop.
Close our borders now and deport those who flaunt our laws.

I'm not one to jump on Ann Coulter's bandwagon, she's just too..... much sometimes. But she was giving sh*t to Bill O' last night and cracking me up. And I was nodding my head at what she was saying, because, even though she may not be "nice" about it, she's got a point.

I love Ann. You can make the argument that she can go "too far" but that is what I like. Just flat out speaking your mind.
