This is why you can't generalize. I'm on the left. I don't believe anyone should be tortured, on either side. I support the troops, as I am a former Marine myself. At least I can say I've trained for war, even if I didn't ever go myself.
Just because someone can see the connections between our actions and others doesn't mean we support the actions. There are problems with Gitmo, that doesn't change because someone does something we perceive as worse. Both actions are still wrong, but in different ways. But at the end of the day, none of us know what's really going on, because we aren't there. Even those who are there only see their little piece of the puzzle. Try to keep things in perspective for once, because all this arguing is just causing more trouble than anything.

I have read some of the comments and it strikes me as odd that some folks hate their own country so much that they can't just say "condolences" to the family of the soldiers.
But I guess when you are hoping for our defeat you must revel in the enemies victory. enjoy it guys it will be short lived.
Jax: I don't suppose you read the reports from various agencies like the International Red Cross, you know, the groups that actually DID go to Gitmo to investigate, unlike the UN.
I read somewhere that on average, the inmates had put on 14 pounds apiece eating that wonderful honey glazed chicken, rice pilaf and dates with yogurt.
Many of them would rather be at Gitmo than be returned to their home countries where they would surely be tortured (real torture) or executed.
We treat these illegal combatants as good as any other prisoners of war from past conflicts. Even though they do not have the legal right to be covered by the Geneva Convetions (please read the G.C. and let me know if you conclude otherwise).
The problem here is the moral relatvism on the left which constantly seeks to say that the US is just as bad as the monsters who would slowly kill these troops and mutilate their bodies.
The effort of such relativism is to block our efforts to effectively wage war against the very people who purposely commit such atrocities against our troops and innocent civilians in Iraq and elsewhere.
Well at least Jax, you are able to express your views without the vile venom and evident self loathing of Salmonella above.
May I predict that you, like so many other liberals who have avoided becoming hatemongers (again, see Salmonella above) will recognize the nature of the threat we face and join a united effort to combat it effectively.

When I heard what these animals had done to our soldiers I had to restrain myself from writing hatemail to the pentagon. I wanted to tell them to please, please, STOP persecuting our soldiers for murder during the course of a war and start hammering these cities that harbor these people. They need to declare martial law in these areas and let them know that their barbarity is no longer to be tolerated. We will no longer try to treat them like decent human beings, because they obviously are not.
During any other war, if irregularities happened, they would investigate and wait until after hostilities were over to prosecute - NEVER while hostilities were in progress.
As for the left (like you, I was one too and also woke up one day - I've since turned into a hardcase rightie) I'm so sick of them I'm at the point where I only ignore them. Actually listening to them only increases my blood pressure, and who needs THAT!
They hate America so much it generally turns them into rabid animals who will align themselves with anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who also wish nothing more than the utter destruction of America.

After all, he's used that term before to describe wounded soldiers, so I suppose he would apply it to dead ones, too.
