People who go to Iraq of their volition are mercanaries? These people went to Iraq to do a job, a very dangerous job since the US govt for the most part does NOT ALLOW them to arm themselves. OH MY GOD they get paid a higher rate for doing the job there then they would in the US. DUH!! supply and demand, the best way to raise the supply of people willing to do a job is to raise the rate!
Just like in the US where there is supposedly a shortage of engineers and we have to bring in foriegners to do the job, there is not a shortage of workers there is a shortage of people willing to do the job for piss ant wages.

He had a post right after Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, called "Not Another Damn Dime", about how no money should go to the Gulf...because the Gulf states voted for Bush.
One of his minions informed the idiot that New Orleans voted over 80% for Kerry, which prompted him to back off and say basically "Well, OK. Let's help New Orleans. But the rest of Louisiana, as well as MS and AL, can go to Hell." As if "blue" voters were somehow more victimized than "red" voters?
Recall 9/11, when NYC and DC (as well as PA) were hit. I didn't see any of us "red" voters saying that those reliably blue enclaves "had it coming" to them. I don't recollect anyone in "red state America" feeling anything but compassion and solidarity with our brethren.
There, folks, is your mythical liberal "compassion" on display for the world to see. Apparently, they feel that you need to have your voting record scrutinized to see if it merits their compassion.
These tinfoil hat morons just wrapped up their kook konvention recently, and a lot of prez '08 wannabes were there. Kinda shoots holes in some of the candidates' "moderate" stance, doesn't it?

All they (including MoveOn.org, Michael Moore, Murtha's, etc.) are doing is pissing off what has traditionally been the Democrat base who may not want to be Republicans, but sure as hell don't want to be tied to the lunatics on the Left.
I have never gone to The DailyKos, and don't plan to go there anytime soon. They are truly disgusting folks who are truly worthy of being called wacko nut-jobs. I hope that all Democrats who love this country will finally realize that their Party has been hijacked by a bunch of self-serving, polemic demagogues with NO workable plans to offer America, and no vision for victory in the war against Islamofascist terrorism.

Actually, I agree with Kos on this one.
When he says "mercenaries," that is exactly what they are. And you should be wondering why they are there in the roles they have, being paid what they are paid because it is, like every other decision Rummy has made, politically and militarily idiotic.
"Civilian Contrators" is a deliberately misleading term. It makes you think of people slinging hash in Haliburton mess halls (Noted, btw, for serving rancid crap to the troops - busted several times for skimming the best stuff for their own barbicues.)
But it also covers such outfits as Blackwater Security. (google it yourself so you know I'm not sending you to my favorite biased source).
Blackwarter is a mercenary outfit, reportedly a rather good one and they are paid accordingly. Each merc gets paid a grand a day. The firm gets paid three grand a day per merc.
If you want a skilled, professional security force staffed with the meanest, deadliest motherfuckers on the planet, Blackwater is on your short list.

They also have a reputation for brutality. "Kill 'em all, Let God sort 'em out" is the motto of any merc who wishes to live to spend his pay. Of course, they also have a professional aversion to getting into dangerous situations in the first place. Having a reputation for ruthless brutality forestalls a lot of actual brutality.
But three grand a day! That would pay for a lot of veteran's benifits.
And there would be a lot less blowback, too. One group of mercs made their very own video while driving along the road, shooting folks at random. Recruitment standards have slipped somewhat, you see. Both the mercs and our own forces aren't screening out racists and uncontrollable psychotics like they used to, with predictable results.
So I rather agree with Kos - if you choose to sign up with such an outfit to do the dirty and deniable, you don't get to complain about the payback. They were paid princely sums to take risks.
Being outraged that some pay the price for that is, well, enough to make a cat laugh. Odds are quite good that if you knew the details, you'd have led the lynch mob.
There is definitely a place for mercenaries, but at the price, I would be employing them sparingly, in roles where specialized expertiese matters - and with performance bonds!
You're right, Bob. They went over there to make Iraq a better place, but because they accepted a paycheck, that elevated them to the level of "mercenaries."
