Actually, it has been determined that the cross border incursion was simply a group of Federales who became disoriented on their way home from Hussongs Canteena.....but seriously, this will be something to watch. The new Mexican President, I can't recall his name, let's just call him Pablo, President Pablo has initiated a major crackdown to "take back" Mexico from the drug smugglers it was announced the other day. They are even sending the Mexican Military into police stations in surprise raids, as they did in Tiajuana just yesterday or the day before. So we may see increasingly desperate attempts to get accross the border if the smugglers feel as though they may be captured by the Mexicans......OR......They heard about Pelosi's plan to increase the minimum wage.
I think when your police force is SO corrupt you have to send the military in to police stations, maybe that's not a good thing.
I heard they only have to smuggle drugs in our country for 18 months and then they're eligible for Social Security benefits...

The Mexican American War was very much about Mexicans taking advantage of Americans. This situation isn't much difference. In fact, it's worse, because they're in our land this time.

This has been big news in my neck o da woods, the local radio stations are talking about it and everyone was outraged that the troops fell back. As far as myself and quite a few other Arizonans are concerned, this was an invasion that is tantamount to an act of war, and the scumbags coming in should have been shot dead as enemies.
This crap has GOT TO STOP.
Our troops can't SHOOT anybody! The guns are only for decoration. Don't you know anything???

To me, this is fundamentally wrong because social liberalism as I view it (of course, with a couple of notable issues - i.e. abortion, affirmative action maybe others) is more consistent with economic conservatism in that both positions advocate that government interference be minimal.
Social conservatism and economic liberalism both look to the state to achieve desired majoritarian moral and economic ends.
If you wish to "curtail" social liberalism, that line would be best drawn based on the proper understanding of what government can legislate and what it can not. Otherwise, we get majoritarian meddling in the private lives of individuals, a third rail amongst libertarians.
That said, conservatives and I will never agree on what the proper line, as our political philosophies greatly differ.

I had heard that it was one of our National (unARMED) Guard posts that was over-run. They were fired upon and since they are NOT armed, they had no choice but to retreat.
If a single National Guardsman is injured due to this idiotic policy, I will hold GW Bush personally responsible!
