This Is Not A Democracy, It's A Republic........

Gravatar I wonder how much muslim money and/or influence is behind all these anti-war films.

Gravatar Or George Soros. Same ideology, different face.

I don't think they are looking to make a buck here - I think they are looking overseas to the America-hating world to make their money.

Gravatar "I think they are looking overseas to the America-hating world to make their money"

The goal may not be making money at all. The goal may be to use willing Hollywood resources to produce anti-war films as overseas propaganda.

Gravatar Or that.....

Gravatar I'm hoping no one will see this movie because people will see it as the gutless, hate-filled anti-military extremist movie that it is!

Gravatar Has anyone studied our revolutionary war?

It lasted 7 1/2 yrs. It had many moments that of almost failures. Washington almost hung 7 soldiers but then did hang one and had others shot in a firing squad. Benedict do more for America before he did his treasonous deed than Kerry the TRAITOR did in his whole life.

If we would have had the libcowards alive then that we have today we NEVER would have won.

Gravatar Darwin said: 'I wonder how much muslim money and/or influence is behind all these anti-war films.'

Asswipe, they don't need to. Too many are following your agenda and sleep walkng though life They are more concerned about American Idol than your friends dying in Iraq. That's the way you wanted it, didn't you? Fool.

Gravatar Dear Daniel ... if you had the slightest clue of what was going on around you and in the world you'd be pissing in your pants non-stop.

Since you don't, we always take your comments with a grain of salt and a big smile knowing how utterly clueless you really are.

Gravatar They haven't made an 'Iraq movie' - they continue to make anti-war movies... not that many people want to be bothered with that negativity.

Gravatar Amen to that FG!

(Can I say "Amen" on Jenn's blog?)

It's even showing at a theater in my town

Gravatar I haven't seen it? Has anyone? I'm told it's a pro-war film.

Gravatar Kayinsane wants to do a citizen's arrest on the entire "Bush Regime" to keep them from escaping to Paraguay as she knows they'll do!

Rove has always been the ugliness that has reared it’s ugly head. So where will Karl Rove be retiring to? Will it be here…(pic)...Oh please, please, please let it be a jail cell Karl Rove gets to retire in for the rest of his life! If he ends up retiring HERE in his new $1 million Florida home, I will gouge out every eye I see!!!!! He doesn’t deserve to be here. Though, it wouldn’t surprise me if he becomes a fugitive from justice by joining Neil Bush, George Bush, The Moonies, and other cultist America-Haters in Paraguay! *spit* Isn’t Paraguay the country all war criminals flee to when they’re a fugitive from justice and where the whackos go to make their deals? I think so. One good thing is, however, at least all the criminals will be in one place to make it easier for the next Democratic president of the United States to find them all! See? There’s always a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Sometimes you just have to open your mind up to find it (Yes Kayinsane recommends opening your mind)

I hope Karl Rove spends the rest of his days in a 12X8 jail cell to think about what he’s done! That would be nice. I would truly be wet the rest of my life knowing he’s dragging a tin cup across the bars. Even better would be George Bush & Dick Cheney in cells across from him!!!!! I hope Karl is indicted, convicted and has to live the rest of his miserable, worthless life in Leavenworth. Or, that he’s hanged in the fashion Saddam Hussein was!!! *spit*

Gravatar It's amazing the drivel she spews when you consider she has a paralegal degree. And to top it off, she seems to think it means a lot.

To quote: "and two years ago I completed my paralegal degree. So, nice try in making me out to be something I’m not, though, I know why you do it……..JEALOUSY!"

So, you get a two year degree and we should be jealous of it? I've got a two and four year degree in Accounting but you won't see me looking down at others because of it.

Gravatar What do you expect? Why spread the info? You don't agree, do you? I don't think you do. So why promote it?

What about the film? Has anyone actually seen it?

Gravatar "Has anyone actually seen it?"

Why would anyone want to see it? The plot is too obvious.

Gravatar You have to see it in order to know the truth about it. In order to decide for oneself, and not just follow the herd.

I want to hear from someone who's actually seen it, so I don't have to.

Gravatar "You have to see it in order to know the truth about it"

The title alone is enough. "Stop-Loss" Only a movie attempting to sling falsehoods and demean the military and the current administration would make a shitty film like this.

"Stop-loss was created by the United States Congress after the Vietnam War. It has been used on the legal basis of Title 10, United States Code, Section 12305(a) which states in part: "... the President may suspend any provision of law relating to promotion, retirement, or separation applicable to any member of the armed forces who the President determines is essential to the national security of the United States" and Paragraph 9(c) of DD Form 4/1 (The Armed Forces Enlistment Contract) which states: "In the event of war, my enlistment in the Armed Forces continues until six (6) months after the war ends, unless the enlistment is ended sooner by the President of the United States." Furthermore, every person who enlists in branch of the Armed Forces signs an initial contract with an eight ( year obligation, regardless of how many years of active duty the person enlists for. [1]

You sign a contract when you join. There is nothing unusual about this, except it's being twisted into another anti-war, anti-American theme movie.

Gravatar "and two years ago I completed my paralegal degree. "

There is NO REASON anyone should believe anything she says or writes. It's all fiction.

Gravatar Stop-loss is such a rarity. I'd love to talk with an actual stop-loss. It almost never happens.

Gravatar stop-loss has been happening all the time since 9/11 are people insaine?!?! this is just the begining of it all. it's nothing but insanity.
it has been going on all along, and we are just now starting to hear about it? people are suposed to be educated about their troops, it's time we take a stand. it's their choice who fights. they are the ones doing it. they should be able make their own decisions.

Gravatar They DID make their own decisions nikki, they decided ON THEIR OWN to join the military, and entered into a contract with our nation. As a result, they must follow what that contract says!

How do I know? Because my boots have been on the groung in Iraq; THAT'S HOW I KNOW!

Gravatar Nikki, people need to educate themselves on what stop-loss actually is. It doesn't mean serving multiple tours. It means that after your contract is over you are called back to service. The emphasis is "after your contract is is over".

My sister has served two tours in Iraq and has been asked to serve a third in Afghanistan. She is still in her contract. Even the people that she knows who are in their 8th year of a 2 year contract are not a stop-loss. They are serving 2 years with 6 years in reserves.

After you serve, you are on reserves for a given number of years. Stop-loss is very uncommon, and the term is being used by people for being called back to service while they are still under contract. That is *not* a stop-loss.

Gravatar It's a propaganda film to make it seem the military is prolonging a person's voluntary service against their will - i.e. DRAFT.

Gravatar No one wants to see these movie, they are a turn off etc. etc.. but we'll keep makin' them! I thought Hollywood was in the business of making money?

It is, but being in that business and making wise business decisions are sometimes independent of one another.

I want to hear from someone who's actually seen it, so I don't have to.

I'm sure some blogger has a review of it somewhere. I haven't checked nor do I plan to.

Gravatar I still want to hear from someone who's actually seen it. Call me crazy.

Gravatar http://www.bloggernews.net/114805

There you go, someone who's seen it.

Gravatar Thank you. Fair enough. Very fair.

Gravatar I gotta admit, though, that I'd rather hear from somebody here, who has seen it. I don't know you guys, but I'd rather take your word for it.

Gravatar I don't plan on seeing it until it's available "free" on cable.

I don't go to Hollyweird movie theater's anymore.

Gravatar Speaking as someone who actually was in uniform, stop-loss is not a secret. It's in everyone's contract and has been for a long, long time. In basic training, everyone gets acquainted with the UCMJ and other legal topics. If I recall correctly, that is one of the clauses in your contract they have you initial. It essentially says that once you sign the contract, you belong to Uncle Sam and he can keep you for the duration if he sees fit.

The point of the movie from what I've seen is that this guy is somehow unaware that this can happen. Only an idiot wouldn't know and I suspect even most of them are aware of that particular clause.

VW

Gravatar So maybe that's what the movie's about? The thing is, how can any one talk with any authority about a movie they haven't seen? It just seems foolish and futile.

I need to see things for myself. But I was hoping one of you could spare me from that. Just one person here. Someone who's word I can take.

Or I will wait till I can see it on cable, although it cable aint free. I don't like most Hollywood movies either. But I won't slam it until I've seen it, or at the very, very least, talked to somebody who has actually seen it. I'm not big on movie reviewers.

Gravatar I don't need to see it to know they are perpetuating a lie. The one line in the movie says it all when the young "soldier" says, "I fulfilled my contract with the military and I expect them to do the same with me." Thus, the premiss is the military is involuntarily forcing this young man to serve even though he has fulfilled his obligation to them.

Ta-da! See, it was easy!

Gravatar Well, that's one line. What about the other lines? What about the response to that line?

Gravatar Uh - that's the premiss of the movie. We're in a war - do you call that supporting the troops? Especially according to our uniformed personnel who've actually posted here and know better?

So far hollyschear has released movies that show the war was illegal - saddam was a great guy - it's for oil - our troops are murderous rapists and thugs.

Just a guess, but the plot probably goes something like: Young man enlists; young man serves honorably and is a hero; young man comes to the end of his tour and wants his discharge so he can marry his sweetheart; young man is told he must continue to serve - he's been STOPLOSSED! Young man fights the system (with touching romance scenes with girlfriend about their future together); young man loses case and is sent back to Iraq; young man dies; movie ends with girlfriend getting news her beau has been killed. The End!

My suggestion to you, since you seem to have such curiousity about it is to simply go and see it for yourself.

I CHOOSE not to.

Gravatar No one is seeing it, it's a box office flop...therefore it will win an Oscar!

Gravatar How do you know it's the premise of the movie if you haven't seen it? Shit. I guess I'm really am going to see it for myself. I was hoping to avoid that.

What hollysheer movies are you referring to? Have you seen them?

Gravatar Well the trailers and reviews let you know a premise of a movie.

Gravatar I'd rather see a movie myself, than trust some idiot reviewer. I guess, since no one here has, or is going to see the movie, I'm going to have to be the one to do it.

The same goes for books - what, I'm supposed to trust the New York Times?

Gravatar Well, quite frankly, I don't understand your request, nor your response. If you won't trust a reviewer to at least state what the movie is about, why would you trust one of us to give a review? Our own bias would color the review just as much as the NYT bias colors their reviews. For all you know, one of us could hate it while something in the movie would totally endear it to you.

Go see the movie and judge for yourself. Then you can be the one to give us your review and impression.

Gravatar Do you think I'd trust the NYT over what you guys have to say?

I guess you guys are going to force me to have to see the darn movie for myself, and I was hoping to avoid that. Then, and only then, will I be qualified to speak about it.

I was always taught, growing up, that if you speak of a book, you have to have read it. Cliff notes and reviews
don't cut it. Call me a wacko. That's just the very conservative way I was raised. The same applies for movies, I think. What's not to understand?

Gravatar I hear what you're saying, "a" but I just haven't seen anything out of Hollywood in years that tells me it would be worthwhile. It's also been years since they have had anything nice to say about the country. Just my 2 cents.

Besides - I would PREFER to read a book.

Gravatar a ... what in the world is so hard to decipher about this film? The stoploss policy is no mystery, and everyones who enlists concurs when they sign their contract. Plus, when the consensus of this blog (except you) is that the film is nothing more than another anti-military, anti-American movie produced for foreign propaganda purposes, and that you'd just be wasting your money seeing it ... just believe it.

Gravatar One must see it to decipher it. I want to take the word of those I trust, but those who actually have seen it. Sometimes I think the NYT and others haven't actually seen it. How is it, that a wise woman, such as yourself, doesn't get that?

It's not about the policy, it's about the film, or the book, what ever. But how can one claim to know a work without having read, or seen it? Somebody told you? Was it someone you trust who actually saw it?

Witness - I would take your word before any critic, if only you had seen it.

Jenn's example/link was complimentary to the film.

Just believe it? Tell me your not a used car saleswoman. I haven't just fallen off the turnip truck. And please don't take this the wrong way.

Gravatar Um, "a", Darwin is a guy.

Anyway - I already gave my 2 cents. You'll have to do as you please. Go see it and make you own decision.

Gravatar Sorry 'bout the mix up.

Darn it! I don't want to have to go see it. I want to discuss it with people who have actually seen it, so I don't have to. I like movies, but I don't like the "Hollywood Movie" thing.

Doesn't anybody know anybody whose actually seen it?
