Funny, US didn't help in 48, and with the British helping the Arabs, the Arabs didn't succeed in "wiping out" Israel then, which they openly promised to do. Funny, the US also didn't help in 67, and in 6 days Israel annihilated multiple arab armies. So much for that theory.

I also find it strange that everybody is so "sick" of Israel. What is it exactly they are so sick about? Is it the daily rocket fire into their homeland? Well, WMD I would suggest that while they may not have "built" their own tanks, it would stand to reason that they "bought" the tanks they had. That's a matter of trade, not help. They defeated the beasties on their own - they had no troop backup from us or anybody else. Also, if we gave them intel - I'm ok with that too.

The rest of the world would not??? LOL what planet is that idea from? The US put an arms embargo on the region (while Britain armed the Arabs). So no, Israel was NOT armed by the US in 48. Israel got arms from czechoslovakia, france, and other smuggling activities in latin America and elsewhere, including Jewish businessmen and activists in America who helped to smuggle against the law! As to the 67 war, the Soviets armed the Arabs, so does that mean the arab armies were "Dependent" on Soviet help? They fought the wars themselves and in the buildup, they got weapons from whoever would sell to them.
And Israel assembled its airforce for the 67 war thanks to a few planes and spare parts from FRANCE, (and ironically a few from Britain that were shot down) so where does this idea come from that "no one else would" sell arms to Israel? The nuclear program also got off the ground thanks in part to France. People sell arms when there is a buyer and a profit to be made, unless they have some serious bias against the buyer.
The US has armed Egypt and Saudi arabia TO THE TEETH for years, so perhaps you could argue that Israel would survive better WITHOUT any involvement of the US in the middle east - although I wouldn't. But the contention that Israel 'wouldn't be here' without the US is a joke that simply buys into Arab propaganda, which says that Israel is a 'colonialist venture' full of weak Jews only able to remain alive against the arab bravado thanks to colonial powers like US and Britain "propping them up" (funny, the arab propaganda forgets Britain's role in creation of transJordan and the Arab Legion, who fought against Israel in the war for independence). If anyone was a colonial adventurer, it was King Abdullah and his arab legion and all the arab nationalist forces that sought to uproot the Jews into the sea.

I get a newsletter from HonestReporting.com that was sent from the Israeli Embassy here in DC when I sent them a support letter when hostilities broke out two years ago.
I also get reports from other sources that disturb me. People who live in Israel say that they are held hostage by their politicians whose official policy is to create policy according to what world opinion is. Foolish! Very Foolish! And frightening! If our US policy was determined by world opinion we would be occupied territory right now.

Yes in 48 the US had an embargo on the area. In 67 those were russian t37 tanks that US made Israeli tanks ran thru like a high school football team thru a paper banner on a friday night. The Israeli Mirages ruled over the Egyptian MIGs. Mirages werent the only aicraft the Israelis flew they had US made F5s.
Yes the arabs were dependant on the russians for their arms. The only thing the french EVER made that was any good was the Mirage the rest of the stuff was WORTHLESS and NO ONE would buy it. The US didnt start arming Egypt until after the 67 war when all their fine russian supplied equipment got run over by the Israelis as part of a deal to leave Israel alone.
You will notice that Egypt and the Saudis are the only ones in 30 yrs not to try anything against Israel. So they ARE SAFER with US involvement in the area.
