Here in WA (or is it THERE since I'm still in Canada), we have The Evergreen State College. TESC, as it is often abbreviated, is often referred to as Marxism U. Even the newsmedia here acknowledges that it is left of center.
A few years back, they voted to have Mumia Al-Jamal speak at their Commencement. He did so via tape recorder as the scumb bag cop-killer is on death row.
A famous student at TESC was Rachel "Flathead" Corey.

Of course there is a liberal bias in colleges. They foster critical thinking and they are smarter than the toothless wonders on the right.

Has anyone who made a difference in the way the US lives or works come from any of those colleges? I dont think even any actors or actresses have come from them.

Most actors and actresses have never gone to, or graduated from, college.
The only saving grace concerning this news (and every word of it is true) is that once theses poor idiots get into the workplace their eyes are really opened.
Like omoron, they believe they have been taught to think critcally. Not true! To think critically you must have all facets of an issue. These are never presented in these schools. They are given a rote response to every issue. It will always be a marxist stance, an EMOTIONAL response.
Hence, when a dissenting view is brought on campus they will react violently. There is no reason in this response. They do not see the hypocrisy in denying to others what they claim they are expressing. Free Speech!

If Marxism is what passes for "critical thinking", then it has a lot in common with what passes through a goose.
O-moron is so devoid of any original thought. The definition of critical thought on college campuses today is what follows the party line. It's how good little Marxists keep out of re-education camps and gulags.
Say or write something that remotely challenges them and they will do all that they can to besmirch the messenger.

There is and always will be Liberal Bias in our colleges. And it is our responsibility as parents to explain to our kids that "THEY DON'T NEED TO TAKE THEIR TEACHERS WORD FOR IT" hey I don't like the Indoctrination going on in our schools but if we try to silence the teachers then our kids get the wrong message. We always say we want fair and balanced. So it is the parents job to allow and encourage their kids to do their own research.
God Bless,

Also, I was in a band in college that played a show at Bard. They don't do homework and have like one paper a year and it's like REALLY expensive

Jason, it's not a matter of silencing teachers. The question should be, "how do include all ideas to an issue?" That should be the whole point of having a well rounded education. The ability to see all sides of an argument/issue and come to your own conclusions. Hearing only one side of an argument is not teaching - it is indoctrination with a captive audience.
Another thing that concerns me about these so-called educators, is if a student brings up a dissenting viewpoint, or worse still, writes a dissenting paper, their teacher/professor punishes them by failing them. Never mind the merit of the paper itself, or even if was well presented, if it departs from the prof's viewpoint then it is dsmissed and the student suffers in their GPA.
I also love hearing stories of students threatened and ostricized by their peers on campus if they happen to hold conservative/christian viewpoints/values. How inclusive is that? Hypocrits!

I went to my state college after HS and was bored off my ass. After my time in the canoe club, I did my degree(s) in the UK. The big thing I notice here is the emphasis of getting students to think for themselves. There are no brownie points for "class participation". We had 2000 word essays to do every week and had to formulate our own arguments.
Uncritically spouting off what some academic said, even if he/she was your own lecturer, was considered fairly infantile. In the states, on the other hand, it seems like you have to pick a side and roll out all their arguments like they are the new Messaih, with your nose right up their ass.
The big, big, difference I see is that many US trained students don't get that you don't have to agree absolutely with what someone has to say. Because of this, these disagreements get pretty emotional. See Moveon.org for examples.

Nicely put, Kris. My question to you: Is it still the same over there? I keep hearing stories of Academics sacked or censored because they pose a critical thinking question that is perhaps politically incorrect, or worse yet, racially insensitive. I also hear stories that they are taking things out of the curriculum - Like Trafalgar and Sir Winston Churchill.
What say you?

ahhh, the difference between what they teach kids in schools and how it's done at university.
There is a real division here with education and it's very much tied into class- although the labour government has tried to get rid of it by attempting to make it all shit.
The PC brigade are in force at the school-kid level. This is because they went to former polytechnics (think community college- which now, thanks to Blair, have been granted "university" status)and aren't up to much other than telling everyone how to live and think.
The proper universities (don't ask me how I got in) are based upon the Oxford model and you are treated like you are a fledgling academic and expected to do your own research.
The trouble in the US and now here, is that it is expected that all kids go to college unless there is something wrong with them. Labour want every muppet in college because they hope it will keep them off the streets. Trouble is, not everyone is suited for high academic life. These new universities specialise in dumbing it down for the masses and cheapening the qualification.
It is a pity because people think that their degree in media studies from the university of the Holloway Road will get them a nice job. It's the biggest, most heatbreaking scam going- particularly if they've funded this bullshit with a student loan.
Then they Labour Party (you remember, all the polytechnic graduates!) wonder why British people don't learn trades anymore and why all plumbers etc come here from eastern Europe.

Great point, Kris! I think it used to be (in the UK) that unless you were suited for academia you had to leave school at 16 to learn a trade. This used to considered honorable. Too bad they've wrecked that system.

You miss the point of EVERY damn conversation you jump in on. Oh and by the way, the government ALREADY monitors what we teach in our schools, just not in private ones such as most universities are, so don't act like that is so out of the norm.
No one hear is asking for government regulation, we are just commenting on how indoctrinating the institutions are to ONLY one point of view. That in not supportive to education at all.

Looks like many here could use some 'edumacating.' It's not hard to understand that for a government to control the masses, keep them dumb and afraid. Demonizing educators is a sure sign they are afraid of people learning the truth.

Good Grief! Both lesturd and omoron can't quite grasp the concept that having all sides of an issue presented is what education (university level) should be. This nonsense of giving only one side of an issue - whether left or right - is not challenging to young minds. It's merely force feeding.
I still believe that all education should be wrested from the gov't and privatized. Get rid of tenured teachers and the NEA.
Elementary and middle school should only deal in learning the fundamentals (i.e. reading, writing, math, science, geography and history - with music and a language thrown in). Critical thinking can begin in high school - with all sides of an issue brought in so children can begin the process of debate and exploring the merits or lack thereof of every topic.
In other words, go back to how school used to be taught before idealogues got hold of it.
Just take a look at the 8th grade test I posted a link to. I know I couldn't pass that thing!
