Rummy compared our war to WWII. Yet in WWII people didn't just "support the troops"; everyone, at some level, was actively involved in the war effort. And it wasn't just about the draft. You had Rosie (and NOT O'Donnel) working in the munitions factory- and even then Princess Elizabeth was an ambulancewoman in London. Everyone did their bit. The ony people who didn't go to war were guys who'd already served in WWI (many volunteered to enlist again despite their exemption).
These days, we've got a watered down version of wartime "service".
I can understand the Democrats who opposed the war not feeling obliged to sign up.
But these so called "supporters" with nothing to offer but words can bite my ass. That includes every senior politician that supports this wars. Stop talking shite about "sacrifice", "digging deep as a nation" and "hard work" and get the fuck on with it!
So I am afraid the Republicans are leading with the chin on this one. But then again, I'm prepared for some asswipe to ask ME the obvious "why don't you enlist"? I did.
I even tried to get back in the reserves, (and quite happy to don't ask, don't tell BTW), but was met with pure scorn by the interviewing Navy captain when I said 9-11 was my motivation.
We've lost the plot as a nation. The military run by a bunch of carrerists and civillians quite happy to sit on their collective asses watching Britany and talking big shite about the war.
So, in a nutshell, I have big respect for John McCain and his enlisted son in Iraq. As for the others...

I've had a large number of veterans old and young who said that they absolutely LOVE the support of us ("us" being normal Americans) and have no problems with those who don't serve who cheer them on. So, if it's good enough for soldiers, it's good enough for me. If soldiers say that they love the support, it doesn't matter what you bottle-sucking pointy-headed snot-crusted-noses on the left think. The opinions of soldiers mean a helluva lot more than the opinions of you leftard miscreants.

Two ... the article brings to light a serious problem, yet neglects to point out that the great majority of care in Walter Reed is superb.
Three ... I seriously question the intent of the reporters as they worked on this story for four months without bringing it to the attention of anyone at Walter Reed.
I feel once they discovered what the situation was they should have brought it to the attention of responsible authorities and taken the story from there, documenting improvements as they happen.
Dana Priest, who should be in jail for leaking secret info, was the lead reporter. An agenda was at play here, using the suffering of military members as cover.

I, myself would feel compelled to call the authorties immediately but that is exactly what all those in charge DID NOT DO hence the need for an in depth investigation that thoroughly backs up the charges, because let's face it, they are serious as hell.
Why didn't the brass do anything? None of the employees? Somebody had to expose it and I doubt it would have been taken seriously if this was just some one day investigation type of thing.
From what I have read this was brought to the attention of journalists after family members and soldiers complained to higher ups and nothing was done.

I questioned the motives of the reporters who could have had people working on this problem months earlier. Instead, they stayed incognito and kept the problems to themselves.

You nailed it by saying the media shouldn't have sat on this for four months. By playing their "bash this administration at all costs" they have become part of the problem not the solution. To knowingly have knowledge of sub standard conditions and conceal that to build a case for a 'hit' piece is discusting, though not surprising.
The media refuses to learn how the power they have could be used positively, as in the scenario you described, by addreessing the problem up front and documenting the improvements as they occur. Negativity rules the roost in media and in the small minds of liberals.

Sphinx. The middle east is a very complex subject. Islam is a very complex subject. What you consider an unjust war must be brought to some degree of successful fruition. We simply cannot allow terrorists to dictate what, where and when we decide is in our national interests.
Some military may disagree with Iraq, however a great number don't.
I don't pretend I know all the implications of Iraq, or it's consequences if we lose or withdraw. We simply must exert a national will and impose it. We cannot back down ...
If you want to argue "cannon fodder", how about we argue the crimes and murders committed by illegals in this country everyday? The death rate for US citizens killed at the hands of illegals far surpasses the casualty rate in Iraq. Why aren't you up in arms over that? These are US citizens who didn't volunteer to be victims of unenforced immigration policies. At least our men and women in Iraq have volunteered ... some many times over.

Your very insincere notation as to the state of Walter Reed is off topic, but let me tell you this.
What you are looking at is a sytem and a place that has been in decline, not just he six years of this administration, but since the Carter years at least.
What you also are seeing is a health care system run by government bureaucrats. One need only look at the horror stories that come out of Jolly Old England and their state sponsored sytem to get some kind of comparison.
At any tijme, day or night, one need only walk through the waiting room of any military hospital emergency room to see the the multitude waiting to be seen for various sniffles and sneezes. It saps so much in resources and it's unnecessary. I've been a long advocate that the military should institute a minor charge for patients seen in the ER that are not emergencies. Got a cold? Pay 25 bucks, thank you, next! Not only would that free up needed hospital resource, it would generate a little revenue.
You are stating to sound like a one note Charlie. You read this article on Walter Reed and that makes you an expert.
I imagine that Reed will get better now that it is brought to light and I hope it does. We'll see with this new Congres that is interested more in giving money away to the undeserving then to the deserving.

I disagree. We have more than enough troops to get the job done. What we don't have is the intestinal fortitude to let these guys be the warriors they are trained to be. We are too concerned with being politically correct, trying to avoid collateral damage.
God forbid we inadvertently kill innocent civilians with all the "smart technology" that is at our disposal. This front of the war should have been finished 6 months after it started, but with screaming liberals like John Murtha, Joe Biden et al hamstringing our troops, and the Jane Fondas and Cindy Sheehans crying out for "peace not war", we have problems.
The arrogance of our own military spokespersons bragging about "surgical attacks", successfully avoiding collateral damage has encouraged the faint of heart to conclude that an entire war can be fought like that.
Well, WRONG! It's war. And there will always be collateral damage in war. The ones that don't get killed are the ones that leave the combat zone.
If people would shut up and let our military, the strongest, fastest and most lethal in the world do what they know how to do, this front will be done in little time.

We were disgussing terrorism with a liberal the other day and the guy actually said to my husband, "well, if you support the troops, how come you didn't enlist?" LOL! My husband is probably to old to enlist, but he does look younger than his age. However, he's a Vietnam Vet with 20 years service in the Army! After informing this guy of the fact, he simply said, "well, lots of people who say they support this war won't join." Pretty lame, don't you think? When asked how much time he'd spent in military service he said he couldn't in good conscience join because he's his mother's only child!

Again, just so that you understand and not in any way to brag, I spent my 20 years on active duty. In my present employment, I carry a Geneva Convention card on me - Category IV - go look it up. I am subject to deployment with the US Armed Forces into hostile areas and indeed, some of my colleagues have spent time in Afghanistan recovering a badly damaged C-17 Globemaster III. (It was damaged by a bad nighttime landing, not enemy fire.) P-96 is now back flying after having the nose gear ripped out and the immediate area under the cockpit ripped apart from hitting a Jersey barrier. We've also had people in Iraq to assist in a few engine changes. (That happens as a normal occurrence, not usually from enemy fire.) We did have one engine get shot up a couple years ago, but the airplane was repaired quickly and was back in service in a few days. We deploy all over the world to support the C-17. I've been out several times.
I think this gives me a some street cred. So I can say, I AM serving and directly supporting the troops and I say that your half-assed whining is demoralizing and is unsupportive. You can argue that you support them by wanting them back home and that is NOT how the vast majority see it and I can tell you that because I work with those people that wear the uniform.
You people disgust me. You don't support the troops. Most of you couldn't identify an Airmen from a Sailor. Most of you have never served and couldn't hack it if you tried. What if it was just Afghanistan Lester, the battle all agree with? And President Bush was a paraplegic and in a wheel chair. Would he NOT be allowed to use military force? In full disclosure I do not have children, and I don’t know about you Lester. But usually parents get to a point where they are a little older and maybe could do it, but instead ask their child to do it. Be it get up on a ladder or shovel the driveway. Two major parts of war are strategy and the other is implementation. (Spare me the “well the strategy sucks bickering”) Usually it is the older more learned officers and civilian leadership that dictate strategy because they cannot fight on the battlefield yet have the knowledge to direct. The younger men/women have the bodies to carry out a strategy but not the experience to plan one. EXPLAIN to me how that doesn’t make simple sense.

It is classified as an incendiary, not as a chemical weapon as many on the left (who never served) would have people believe.
The plain fact is, WP is used more for smoke screens and illumination and as a defense against heat seeking missiles than as an offensive weapon. It has a limited use as an offensive weapon when the intent is to burn things down. If you are going to kill people on a mass scale, WP is not a good choice. It's good for confined spaces but as a device to kill en masse, there are much more efficient conventional means then WP.
The smoke caused by WP does not kill and is no more dangerous than other types of smoke as it used as smoke screen material.

You COMPLETLY miss the point. SADDAM had NO right to shoot at our airplanes per the cease fire agreement. That was also a result of him murdering his civilians after the agreement was signed. Hence, the NO FLY ZONE.
The NO FLY ZONE wasn't a directive to OUR pilots not to fly there. They were LEGALLY on patrol. In effect then, it would be the same as if North Korea CROSSED the border and shot at our pilots.

Iraq was NOT a hotbed of muslim extremism. It was the only secular country in the middle of all the extremist nations. I know many Iraqis who are absolutely appalled at the ugly multi-headed hydra of fundamentalist religious extremism that has divided a nation where Shias and Sunnis had been intermarrying and living together for decades without that kind of divisive strife. Iraq was the among the most educated nations in that region and women were not forced into wearing burqas and hiding in their homes unable to work.
Now the problem in Europe is pretty complex. That's a whole other topic and it has a lot to do with Europe's lack of preparedness for integrating the gaste-arbejdere programs they used to bring workers in in the seventies. Europe is not the "melting pot" of a young nation such as the U.S. who is based on gradually assimilating people from all over the world. We are a nation based on immigrants.
The situation Europe finds itself in now is largely created by their own lack of know-how or willingness to assimilate these people, hence leaving multi-generational families feeling like outsiders and becoming the enraged outsiders the bottum rungs of society often become. That's not to say there isn't a huge problem now but there are multiple root causes and multiple ways to study it.

I don't understand why lefties aren't signing up in droves. They seem to be so concerned about the military's welfare and morale, you think they'd help out.
