No actually, it's not odd. I have been an atheist since I was old enough to make up my own mind, that was around 5. Religion for me is a man made hoax and a total crock, that if it were banned would result in a lot more peace globally.
That being said, many of my commenter's here are Christians and they are good people. I see Christians being hammered on a daily basis by leftards, and the media while, the blood thirsty cult of Islam is practically honored.
After Katrina, if was CHRISTIAN faith based groups that opened their homes to the homeless, gave their clothes off their backs and raised a shit load of money for the thankless shits from Louisiana.
During Christmas, Christians give, and share, open their churches to the homeless for food and help. Father Joe here in SD, Christian he is, works tirelessly year round to educate and help homeless men and women become productive members of society.
I don't see Muzzies open their mosques on El Eid to the homeless. Nope. I do however see they beheaded another 9 people yesterday. Nice.

That being said, Christianity is UNDER ATTACK on a daily basis. Take Christmas for example. It is a SECULAR federal holiday. Though the day is celebrated by Christians as the birth of Jesus, most, like me have Christmas tree's stockings and Rudolf's adorning our houses. Yet, places like Seattle airport felt they had to remove the Chrsitmas tree for fear of upsetting ONE jewish guy.
Or school changing the holiday from Christmas break to "winter holiday." It's a crock.
On a side note, while there may be assholes in every religion, I don't see Christians, IN THE NAME OF CHRISTIANITY, killing by the score on a daily basis, say like ISLAM.

Hopefully, Christians, in the name of Christianity, will never kill in the scores you speak of. (I read somewhere, a while back, though, that 80% of those on death row claim to be Christian, and that causes me sorrow.)
There's a misperception that Christians shouldn't defend themselves, or stand up against injustice or evil. It is not only acceptable, but in certain cases Christians are obliged to take up arms against those that wish to harm them and the innocent.
To me its not so much being christian, or jewish or even muslim. The problem I see with religion is ORGANISED religion. It is one thing to believe in christ the son of God, or christ the prophet. It is quite another to believe ONLY in one sect or anothers pecular rules. Catholics vs Quakers vs Amish vs Mormon vs Lutheran vs Methodist vs Baptist vs Evangelical, Jews vs Hasidics(sp), or Shiite vs Sunni vs Wabbi (or whatever).

As a fellow atheist Jenn I too get tired of the Christian bashing, almost as much as hearing my mother telling me I'm going to hell. Since I don't believe in hell that doesn't bother me.
My kid even goes to a Catholic school - she can make up her own mind about religion but I avoid public school around here like the plague. Yesterday a neighbor that runs our safety program (and a Conservative)asked me if I wanted to join her prayer group - I told her no thanks, I don't believe in god... she said but you voted for Bush. Funny.

Then, my Senior year in H/S, my mother, she was an RN, ran a unit in a Catholic Hospital, she got me a job driving the Nuns to various functions around the area after school hours, you have NO idea of the things my young eyes saw and were shocked by...

Now, if Christians are killed because of their beliefs, then understand this: the killers of those Christians are simply pushing the Christians towards their "finish line" - that is, they have died in their faith. If I am killed because of my belief in Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior, then yay for me! I go to sleep knowing that I will awake at the last trumpet, and join the heavenly host. Calling Christians names, persecuting them, vilifying them, trying to smear them - none of that matters. True Christians will praise God for what they are having to endure, because the rewards, for them, outweigh any nastiness that anyone on earth can dish out.
That's why, when Christianity is attacked, there is no rioting in the streets. That's why there are no Christian gangs roaming the land killing all those who mock Jesus. That's why you are not told to convert or die when confronted by a Christian.

Except that while Christians are being killed in Africa and the ME for their faith (with nary a word of protest from the world) I would at least hope to have the freedom to practice and express my religious freedom in a country that actually has that as a bacis tenent of the First Amendment.
The First Amendment isn't just about freedom of speech or the press, it's the freedom OF religion (not the freedom FROM religion). The fact that Christianity is being attacked daily in a country that expressly defends that right is quite frankly distressing to me.

Scientology is another "religion" that is notoriously touchy. I am a fan of South Park, and they have poked fun at every single religion/faith/group of people under the sun (including islam), but when they wrote an episode on Scientology, they had a one of their major actors quit in protest of the episode and I guess Tom Crazy put in his two cents as well...
