"The U.S. government is on a 'burning platform' of unsustainable policies and practices," Walker avers, including "fiscal deficits" and "overseas military commitments threatening a crisis if action is not taken soon." If we continue on our present course, Walker warns, we are in for "dramatic" tax hikes, a radical reduction in government "services," and "the large-scale dumping by foreign governments of holdings of U.S. debt." The Chinese certainly concur with that last prediction.
"Sound familiar?" asks Walker. It ought to, he contends, because we are going down the path the ancient Romans took. There are, he says, "striking similarities," including "declining moral values and political civility at home, an overconfident and overextended military in foreign lands, and fiscal irresponsibility by the central government."
"In my view," says Walker, "it's time to learn from history and take steps to ensure the American Republic is the first to stand the test of time."

you thought that was funny ?
your last post. I don't see how you or anyone could.
I am totally into the forward thinking thing, that's why i am cognitive of blowback. The shiites in Iran regularly come to the shrines in Iraq. al maliki and ahmednejad are allies. attacking Iran would come out of the hide of the 150,000 + US forces in Iraq.

No lester - you're into the appeasement thing. You're of the ilk that believes that if we only leave everybody will take their bombs and go home. Like they did in the 80's and 90's - right?
I don't give a damn about blowback - don't much buy it either - but just suppose it did come. Get em all in one place and wipe em out with one bomb. No problem! You do that enough times and they'll get the message.
These are a people who only respect strength. Mollycoddling them just earns you their contempt - and a car bomb.

I have to agree with Comptroller.
"If we continue on our present course, Walker warns, we are in for "dramatic" tax hikes, a radical reduction in government "services," and "the large-scale dumping by foreign governments of holdings of U.S. debt."
I think that if we continue to elect Democrats all of these things will indeed come true. The tax hikes are obvious, but the reduction in government will come from failing domestic policies and entitlement programs when they go bankrupt and begin to crash. The large scale dumping of US Debt will follow when our economy begins to backslide due to the enromous burden of the tax increases.
There are, he says, "striking similarities," including "declining moral values and political civility at home, an overconfident and overextended military in foreign lands, and fiscal irresponsibility by the central government."
Right on, my conservative brother. Except for the overconfident military statement you are exactly right. Declining moral values and political civility or political correctness are tenants of the left. I agree we have an overextended military and we desperately need to increase its size. Finally, the fiscal irresponsibility, as recently show by those such as the Democrat John Mutha recieveing over $150 million in earmarks on one single bill, needs to cease. I would also add that the violations of procedures such as the illegal recounting of closed vootes on the House floor and the attempts to keep the American people in the dark by requesting that General Pratraeus's report be read in a non-public closed door session of Congress further this evaluation.
Good points, Comptroller, down with the liberal agenda.

Atlanta Airport
You gotta love this one even if you've never lived in the South.
Some of you will enjoy this more than others - Southerners can be so polite!
Atlanta ATC: "Tower to Saudi Air 911 -- You are cleared to land eastbound on runway 9R."
Saudi Air: "Thank you Atlanta ATC. Acknowledge cleared to land on infidel's runway 9R - Allah be Praised."
Atlanta ATC: "Tower to Iran Air 711 --You are cleared to land westbound on runway 9R."
Iran Air: "Thank you Atlanta ATC. We are cleared to land on infidel's runway 9R. - Allah is Great."
Pause...
Saudi Air: "ATLANTA ATC - ATLANTA ATC"
Atlanta ATC: "Go ahead Saudi Air 911."
Saudi Air: "YOU HAVE CLEARED BOTH OUR AIRCRAFT FOR THE SAME RUNWAY GOING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. WE ARE ON A COLLISION COURSE. INSTRUCTIONS, PLEASE."
Atlanta ATC: "Well bless your hearts. And praise Jesus. Y'all be careful now and tell Allah "hey" for us -- ya hear?"

Actually Jenn, that was pretty easy to pin out without access to an IP address. Who else would align himself enough to assume the monniker of a socialist Kennedy School graduate who promotes welfare and was a Clinton appointee?
Speaking of IP addresses, There is alot of chatter about the FEDS becomming more interested in posts on the internet by people supporting islamofacists. "Long live the Islamic Republic of Iran" I would think would qualify. Just sayin.

concerned citizen- I don't think you get it. He's not saying democrats will raise taxes, he's saying in order to pay our massive dent we will have to cut services and RAISE taxes regardless of who is in charge. We don't own the world, if we owe people money we owe them money.
witness- that's why bush went from 90% to 25% approval. war is expensive. we're in the middle of two right now. and it has consequences. if you "don't much care" abuot our troops being slughtered by angry shias you are barely an american.

because it's a jewish Crusades. It may have made sense after ww2, but it's not feasible any more. They've never had a moment of peace and they never will.
I'm not genocidal at all. They can all move to my house if they want. The middle east is a shit hole. Israel is perpetualy at war with ALL it's neighbors. take them out of the quation, the region starts to be a lot easier to handle.
Israel is like those people who move out in to the mountains and there is a forest fire. instead of letting it burn, they have to go in and fight the thing because of the people and their expensive homes.
who's ever heard of starting a country in the middle of the 20th century? taking relatively wealthy people mainly from europe. kicking out all the third worldies who were there before and wondering why there are so many problems.
basically, israel is where the pilgrims were in 16 whatever. except they are surrounded by a billion indians who KNOW they want to take their land. if the pilgrims had faced those odds they would have been wiped out at plymouth rock.
they should just leave. isn't that what the smart jews did when Hitler came in to power?

Actually, 27 Nations have emerged since 1990. I guess they didn't get your memo.
But just out of curiosity. Since you seem so hell bent on making sure life is fair, where are you moving to when we give this land back to the indians?
Ah, that's what I thought, you ain't goin anywhere, are you.
So let me get this straight. The displacement of people in the past is wrong, so to correct that, we'll just displace the Jews and call it even. Who cares where they go !!!! Now us on the other hand, that's a different story.
Your logic never ceases to amaze me. Let me ask you one more question lester. When did the Jews first show up on the planet and where did they live? And no, it wasn't in the 40's above a Jewish Deli in Brooklyn.

we FOUGHT the indians for this land. we didn't have the UN sign a treaty saying we had a right to it. if the Indians decide they want it back we will have to fight them again. ever seen a cowboy movie? we fought the indians for hundreds of years.
The jews are where the pilgrims were in 1620. except they are surrounded by a BILLION indians. and there aren't millions of other pilgrims willing to come and help them fight. and their indians aren't gullible and have known the score since the begining.
if the pilgrims had faced these odds they would have been wiped out at plymouth rock. the US can offer israel military and economic assistence but it can't change that equation. what if there were no United States? Would israel go on? I doubt it. The chips are stacked against them. that area has been arab for the past 18 centuries. the surrounding areas are all either arab or muslim. they are jewish and have a european way of life.
not that I'm a stickler for pre-christian stuff, but I believe the canaanites were in jersusalem long before the jews. I thik most zionists even ackowledge that.

Well Lester, you just can't get away from the Disneyland that occupies the space between your ears can you.
"What if there were no United States?"
What in the name of God do you think a quesion like that has to do with any part of the reality of the problem?
How about this lester, What if there were no Islam? What if there were no Russia? What if there were no Iraq? What if there were no wars? Gee, that's almost John Lennonish.
As far as when Jews can lay claim to their land, we can have "the chicken or the egg" arguement all day long. Biblical scholars can't agree, however Jews CAN trace their roots back to the area as far back as 4-6 thousand years ago.
Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan united, attacked and tried to take back Israel. They lost. So there goes your cowboy and Indian arguement. As for 'millions aren't there to help them out', wrong again. There are, and there have been. Unless of course you revert back to your "What if there were no...."acid trip.
The problem is lester, not how to remove or exterminate the Jews, Hitler tried that, remember? Over two thirds of the Jews in Europe were murdered, the rest fled, to their homeland. The problem is how do you get the Muslims to learn to live next to them. That problem is compounded by the FACT that Muslims can't even live next to themselves. So until those animals, and that's exactly what they are lester, animals, can learn how to become a part of humanity, until those animals come to the realization that we are NOT living 1600 years ago and we're not going to go back there, we can't teach them to live with non muslims (human beings).

billy- my point about "what if there was no united states" was not to imagine such a world, but to say that if that is the only reason israel is still there than that says alot about it.
Yes, some of the jews cane trace their lineage there. ican trace mine back to liverpool and austria or some thing. that doesn't mean i can go there and kick everyone who lives there out.
and many jews CAN'T trace their lineage to that area. the russian jews aren't semites, they converted around the time of charlemagne. the ethiopian, yemen, anbd other jews also have different roots. anyone can convert to judaism and become citizens of israel.
But you are missing the bigger picture. It doesn't matter what you or I WANT to happen. the trend is that arabs are reproducing and being united by islam and a gradual accepting of modernity. If the Indians had guns instead of bows and arrows and modern military training they would have been a much better match for the pilgrims and the cowboys.
Yes, it would be nice if we could have the Israel tthat was in the bible. though, hopefully they won't kill Jesus when he returns like they did last time. but it's not in the cards. and we'd be wise not to go down with it. particularly when many of us don't support it ever being created.
