There is the Iran issue, which will absolutely need to be dealt with in the next year. If they get the nuke the best case scenario is they use it as a get-out-of-jail-free card to unleash Hezbollah & Hamas as we've never seen them before (the worst case scenario is unspeakable).
The North Koreans, Chinese, Russians and (as usual) FRENCH are selling know-how & weapons to anyone who will pay.
AND THE PRICE OF OIL means the bad-guys have the money to pay! and pay! and pay! An Iran with Nukes is terrible, an Iran with SU30 Jets is a NIGHTMARE...
Bad time for an Obama... Not the greatest time for a McCain, but I'll settle for the lesser of two nitwits.
I figure we are in for two very rough years if Urkel Obama is elected. But I expect the Repubs will romp the midterm elections of 2010 if Urkel is even half as radical as he seems to be. This will neuter him.
The poor economy and overall disillusion with HopeyChanginess™ will make Osama a one termer resulting in a revitalized Repub presidency and further gains in Congress.
Obama will leave such a bitter taste, like Carter, it'll be at least 12 years after that until another Dem is president. And they'll have long Congressional setbacks too.
We'll survive.

The biggest problem I see is that Carter started his term with the economy in an upward direction and drove it into the ground. Obama will start with the economy already on a downhill slide. 12% interest on a home loan is going to look good.
On the international side Carter started with islamic extremism low and drove it up by not backing ourselves or our friends. Obama starts with extremism high and will undoubtedly try for the Neville Chamberlain photo op waving a worthless piece of paper from them. I see us being attacked again and nothing being done but hand wringing.
