This Is Not A Democracy, It's A Republic........

Some interesting points were raised that probably should be explored maybe in another show?

One point that stands out ( there are others I just don't remember them right now) is that many of the events occuring probably need to be separated as being political vs religious events.

Anyway ... kudos to Hanya and Jordan for coming on. More open dialogue can bring a better understanding that hopefully will lead to ostracizing radical muslims everywhere ... I hope.

Maybe she or someone else from Shiachat will drop by and drop a line.

Gravatar She was awesome Darwin, but she added too..that mobilizing resistance has been difficult.

But I agree with your other points.

Lester is to afraid BTW!

Gravatar I one thing that really needs to be explored is when she said in islam, there is no peace without justice. Holy moly ... that can be interpreted so many ways. Just whose justice? Just what kind of justice are we talking about?

Probably justice as defined by the koran. Not very compatible with western values and ideologies.

Gravatar That and when her friend called. Both seemed to agree that Islam is, was and always will be the driving force, and nothing will change that. Without change........

Gravatar I wanted to thank you for allowing me to come on your show today. It was really nice and I felt very welcomed.

Darwin- you raise a good point. I didn't specify what I meant there- all I meant was, warfare IS permitted in Islam, but that does NOT mean terrorism. For example, you support the war in Iraq- so you also support war when you believe it is necessary. Killing of innocent civilians is NEVER justified though. Killing of women and children, and even hurting the environment, is not justified in Islam.

I have to run to class. I hope that made more sense?

Gravatar "I hope that made more sense?"

Hanieh, yes. Any nation or group of people that won't wage war, even in self defense probably won't be around too long.

But now, I'm even more confused. I don't understand how terrorism and the killing of innocents cannot be justifed yet be so prevalent.

Anyway, I want to thank you for going on Jenn's and Dave's show. Hopefully we'll get a chance to hear your thoughts again.

Gravatar thank you very much dave and jenn. dave I'm sorry about before man

Gravatar Well lester ... any buzz in the shiachat house about her appearance?

Gravatar darwin- just one "MashAllah subhanAllah ta'ala!"

not too many on right now unfortunately

jenn- is redneck mean? I was just trying to be colorful

Gravatar lol I a m definately the worst agent / publicist ever. thank god i don't do this for a living I'd be starving

Gravatar You said on Shia Chat: sister path2felicity came through and knocked em dead on this insane redneck radio show. i haven't heard it yet but it was a great success by all accounts. check it out and be sure to congratulate ...or make a note of it... or whatever one does when ones co-border member and or co-religionist is on a radio show. and thanks especially to dave and jenn for having her on. I can't wait to go to the libary and hear.

So you haven't even listened to it yet, and call it an "insane redneck radio show". Fucking tool. But, you are welcome, H was a nice guest, sweet girl.

Gravatar like "redneck woman" gretchen wilson. it's a compliment.

Gravatar Yeah right. Tap dancin' fool that lester is.

On another point, I'm still bothered by "there can be no peace without justice thing".

Gravatar I agree with that actually. muslims don't have an MLK or gandhi to make the white people feel bad about themselves enough to shame them into removing the shackles from the brown skinned folk.

So basically, it's like we're not going to demonstrate or light ourselves on fire or write poems about peace. if you want peace get the hell out of our countries first.

Gravatar "our"

Lester, who are you referring to exactly?

Gravatar OWWWWWIE les

a half a man without country!!!

I guess even the Arab/Muslems dont want you either

Gravatar Hanieh, who knows whom Lester refers to. Most of the time we just let him ramble on. He never really makes any sense.

Oh and Lestard, I never put any shackles on the "brown skin folk", in fact the only one putting the shackles on these days are themselves. Not to mention the fact that I haven't been to a Middle Eastern Country, unless you count Birmingham England which is Like Pakistan #2. So, I can;t get out of there.

Gravatar hanieh- i meant it conversationally. I thought putting quotes around it would over do it.

I meant :

So basically, it's like "we're not going to demonstrate or light ourselves on fire or write poems about peace. if you want peace get the hell out of our countries first".

I have no delusions of muslittude

Gravatar okay lester

i was wondering what you meant. thanks for the clarification.

Gravatar it was operation clarification

Gravatar "So basically, it's like we're not going to demonstrate or light ourselves on fire or write poems about peace. if you want peace get the hell out of our countries first."

This doesn't make sense lester, not that it would be a high priority for you anyway. Neither does killing muslims everyday with car bombs and chlorine tanks. The quickest way for the US to leave Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, is to form a stable Iraq. The only ones preventing us from leaving are muslims.

Go figure.

Gravatar the shia muslims are soft targets. the US military is fortified and tough as nails. either way, no way you are going to take them on. they dress it up with the old shia-sunni rivalry and the people wanting to get on with their lives as being "collaboraters", but soft targets is what it's really about.

at the same time, terrorism has a momentum of it's own. so whatever it starts out as , it's like ...they aren't planning suicide attacks because of any particular US act, they are doing because they did it the day before.

how's that for political doublespeak? what we really need is "meaningful sanctionary teeth"

seriously, I know what you are saying. we WANT to leave we just don't want to leave it in chaos. If the ywant us to leave why don't they just chill out? I have to think about that one a little bit but I'm making myself nauseus with this stuff

Gravatar "seriously, I know what you are saying. we WANT to leave we just don't want to leave it in chaos."

Thank you ... was it all that hard? Why doesn't anybody else say that?

I have no idea what you were talking about in your example of doublespeak. I suppose that's the intended effect.

Gravatar it was something alexander haig said once. meaningful santionary teeth meant, I guess, sanctions that were well placed as to give the US advantages and the enemy problems

Gravatar Someone left this at Shia Chat a few minutes ago...

You did a great job, sis. What I can't believe is that they didn't cut you off in mid sentence or call you a 'fundamentalist, terrorist' or ask you if you were a member of hezb. This must be a more enlightened red neck radio show.

I still don't see what the point is of going on a show that about 5 or 6 people listen to.

As of 7pm tonight, and I dont like to give numbers out, because its my freakin show, but so far lester or Jenn:

over 75 live listeners, and so far tonight over double the archived downloads.

I am wondering why someone gave out the idea we have 5-6 listeners? Lester?

Gravatar Here is the link so you all can see there room:

Gravatar dtodeen,

Sounds like whoever wrote that comment is a fine example of what they're accusing us of being.

From the frequent use of "redneck" on that site, I take it they believe non-muslim Americans are stupid and a bunch of hicks.

Nice to know.

Gravatar Lestard-

Sums you up buddy:-

"I haven't listend to it, but she knocked them dead".

You just don't listen period, do you?

Gravatar first of all, don't be so sensitive. and no I haven't listened to it yet I'm still trying to figure out how.

Gravatar Uh, click on the "listen" link to the right of this post. Right below the piccy of My Point Radio.

Gravatar I figured it out. It was the computer. I'm at the part of the show where Jordan shows up. the jordan years. I was hoping it would be more about ask the imam and people not allowing themselves to listen to music. It's a great show but too nice. anti gay, anti feminism that's my favorite shia chat stuff. It's like pat buchanan with more overt holocaust denial, basically.

Gravatar "It's a great show but too nice."

It was only the first show. Kinda get to know you session. If she or someone else comes on again be primed with your questions.

Gravatar Hanieh was indeed very good, intelligent and thoughtful.

It doesn't surprise me that her parents were educated in the UK.

In England, there are lots of 2nd and 3rd generation Muslims who go to school, work hard, become professionals and are more british than most british people.

Then you have people who have just arrived on some bogus "asylum pass", make no effort to learn the language or work and slag off the West while they are at it.

I've seen a "debate" on tv here where a highly educated Muslim surgeon was pitted against an "imam". That surgeon just looked at the imam like he was from another planet. He is!

My question for Hanieh, if she is still around, is how are you, a largely "secular" muslim going to take your religion back from the people with no education or desire to get one?

Gravatar Kris,

Thank you for the comment and question. I'm not exactly sure what a "secular" muslim is, so I am not sure I am one really. Aren't all Muslims living in the West largely secular since we live in and identify with a secular country?

I do believe that education is so important, for muslims and non-muslims alike. Actually, I've spent quite a fair amount of time on a campaign in my undergrad years for educating muslim women. My grandmother was never educated, was married when she was 13, and as a result, dedicated her life to educating her children. She sent my mother to an entirely different country at the age of 18, with no supervision, so she could get educated. When such a woman is in my family, it makes me so humbled and so much of what I have done is for my love for her.

I don't know which imam you are talking about in England. You are right in that there is a large communication and culture gap between muslims raised in the West and the muslims who come here from other countries. However, there are many really great religious leaders right now who have been raised here and who understand the lives that we lead. I do really admire them for their efforts.

As to what I plan to do- honestly, I'm not sure at this point. There are lots of things I am considering, and most of it revolves around social work. I would like to get move involved with domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, and more of this type of work in America. Abroad, I know a few NGOs that I would like to do some work with. I would like to see more activism amongst Muslims, and I do get involved involved with that as well, though not so much right now as I'd like to (my thesis and course work looms over my head). But I think the best way to make any sort of difference in communities, is to try and be an example of what you want to see changed. And all of my efforts are to seek nearness to God, and to please Him in this world and in the Hereafter.

Gravatar Hanieh
The best way to make adifference in a community is to be part of the whole community not just part of a separated piece of the community.

Gravatar the best way to help homeless people and battered women is to utilize your (apparently) fancy pants college education and make a million dollars before you're thirty. If there are more rich people, muslim or otherwise, then they won't be homeless or battered because they'll be able to own a home and upgrade on the husbands to something less abusive.

cost ratios, beenfit analysis, adaptive re use. that's what I say to the whole clash of civilizations. muslims and christians and jews should team up and make money off the asians indians and africans. i 've got a 5 year plan. but i need your vote. lester in 08

Gravatar I know she's married...but Hanieh ,you rock girl!

Gravatar Dear Hanieh

Thanks for that.

Perhaps "secular" isn't the right word for what I was trying to put my finger on.

I think it might be "multiculturalism".

My friends who were brought up here have integrated into British life. Many of the new immigrants have not.

Is that a failure of multi-culturalism?

Gravatar Ohhh, sorry

I think the immigrant experience is different in the UK than US.

In the US, I do think that people come because they want to be American or at the very least be part of the American experience.

Traditionally, when people immigrated to the UK, it was from a (former) colony and they at least had a cultural identity of where they fit into British society.

Now, we've got non-colonials coming from Somalia etc and they go into self-imposed ghettoisation.

In fact, there are many somalian gangs here (eg the Muslim Soldiers) who drink, smoke pot and beat people up. They are like any other bit of gang culture- so the issue to me is integration and treating terrorists like the thugs they are rather than thinking that what they are up to has anything to do with the war.

Gravatar europeans have had a bad experience with islam. one because of terrorism, obviously, but also because of mass immigration. americans are wary of muslims, but we don't have the virtual open borders and massive welfare state that, say , France does . thank you ronald reagan.

So, basically in europe muslims are their mexicans as well.

Gravatar what is because of low wages

Gravatar mudkitty had a post there and now my post makes no sense. is this some pissy conservatives had their feelings hurt or a problem with the board

Gravatar "mudkitty had a post there and now my post makes no sense. is this some pissy conservatives had their feelings hurt or a problem with the board"

I think since kitty won't stop posting here after being asked numerous times, Jenn just deletes her comments. No ones feelings are hurt, she's just become a distraction.

Anyway ... when have your posts ever made any sense?? Just kidding, I have some posts hanging out there that look the same.

Gravatar gay

Gravatar I knew it! Glad you're finally out Lester, things will get easier now that you've embraced your inner self.

I understand your frustration Lestard, but that particular "person" has worn out here welcome. If I just deleted every idiot libtard who commented here, do you think you'd be here? Or Jared? Orion? Nope. This has nothing to do with freedom of speech, just tired of bullshit.

Gravatar If I just deleted every idiot libtard who commented here, do you think you'd be here? Or Jared? Orion?

How rude! You left out our resident 9/11 conspiracy loon and troop insulter Pete. As well as the crusty coward Anne Onymous, the multiple personalities of Sybil (Max, etc.).

Never mind. You're right: so many moonbats, so little time to recognize them all!

Gravatar mudkitty's posts were much more substantial than jareds

Gravatar A typical conversation with mudkitty:

mudkitty: Xians are terrorists, so let's start bombing the UK.

Normal person: Kitty, do you have a point?

mudkitty: Ad hominem. This passes for humor among wingnuts?

Normal person: WTF are you talking about??

mudkitty: Hip yourself. Look it up in the general welfare clause of the Constitution. It's in my purse. Plain as day: "we the people are entitled to free HDTV, free iPods, and free crack cocaine, so long as no one profits off of it (unless it's IKEA)." The Founding Fathers were socialists, you know.

Normal person: I am having a helluva time trying to figure out (a) WTF you're trying to say and (b) if it's even relevant to the topic at hand.

mudkitty: Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

Normal person: Ummm...OK.

mudkitty: You must be a Republican operative.

Normal person: Operative?

mudkitty: Yes, until Plame's super-double-top-secret-covert status was blown by the Xians. I thought rightwingers supported profit?

Normal person: Oh...my...God.

mudkitty: Of course, you sillys. Hagel said it. He's the man.

Normal person: OK, I give up. I can't talk to this person anymore.

mudkitty: Ad hominem. General welfare clause, free beernuts. Rent my movie Chicks With Dicks, please.

Gravatar A typical conversation with Jared:

Jared: HACK!

Normal person: Are you even going to provide links?

Jared: HACKwhy should I provide linksNO CREDIBILITYwhen you guys lostCRUSH CONSERVATISM?

Normal person: Well, if you're going to say something that stupid, we'd at least like to see some proof.

Jared: HACKwho needs proofZERO CREDIBILITY?? SHE WAS COVERT!!!

Normal person: Who was covert?

Jared: MY WIFE THE JAG, AND DON'T YOU EVER INSULT MY FIANCÉ AGAIN, YOU HACKS!!!!

Normal person: Which is she, your wife or fiancé?

Jared: OK, I messed up. FINE! I meant to say "significant other"...YOU HACK WITH ZERO CREDIBILITY!!!

Normal person: Dude, do you have to scream everything?

Jared: Yes, BECAUSE OF CORPORATE PROFITS AND THE AEI!! Did I mention HACKS!?!?!?!?

Normal person: Oh...my...God.

Jared: Don't MAKE me break out the melodrama again...you HACKS!!!

Normal person: OK, I give up. I can't talk to this person anymore.

Jared: OF COURSE YOU CAN'T, BECAUSE YOU'RE FAT...AND BALD...AND A HACK...WITH ZERO CREDIBILITY!!!! NOW IF YOU'LL EXCUSE ME, I NEED TO GO HAVE THIS TOURETTE'S OF MINE LOOKED INTO...HACKS!!!!
