This Is Not A Democracy, It's A Republic........

Gravatar Perhaps the catholics can take a page from the Koran, and have a protest where they destroy other countries' embassys, or they behead innocent people of other religeons. Ok, /endsarcasm

Gravatar Would it have been so difficult to put a loin clothe on him? At least they didnt have Mary Magdeline kneeling in front of him performing a Monica impression.

Gravatar Good point Boozeman...my daughter goes to Catholic school so I'll expect anytime now to hear about the mass protest/riot.

That thing is creepy and what a waste of chocolate.

Gravatar It is indeed creepy, I don't like any of my food to have a face when I consume it.

I think I'll stick with the obligatory chocolate rabbit and jelly beans.

Gravatar I don't think it's a big deal, but it's just kinda creepy that someone would spend so much time and effort to create something knowing full well it might offend people.

That's the story ... the lengths that people go to offend christians.

Can you imagine the "artist" doing a naked chocolate mohammed?

Gravatar Ah, and Darwin goes where I wanted him to go.

No, I DO NOT see any artist making a big ass chocolate Mo. And if he dared, the outrage would be unmatched by the Danish Mo cartoon protests, no doubt.

Now, other than verbal indignation how are the Christians respoinding to this?

"That thing is creepy and what a waste of chocolate."

Hardly a comparison eh?

Gravatar Damn... missed my calling I guess... didn't realize I was suppose to rant and rave, destroy/loot property (can I hit Nordstrom first?), and threaten to kill people over a bad piece of art/candy.

Gravatar Nordstroms it is.

Gravatar That is the point, of course...let's do something that will get Christian panties in a bunch because, in spite of the fact that there will be complaints, they won't be violent complaints. Never would a true "artiste" dare to offend followers of the Religion of Peace.

I, for one, would like to see a chocolate Buddha. Just think of the huge quantities of luscious confectionary to be consumed!

Gravatar If the "artist" had rendered his impression of a naked mohammed in chocolate ... CAIR would have had 18 press conferences, 12 lawsuits filed and who knows how many people would have died in riots around the world.

Gravatar That's it I have training in making confections, I shall make a chocolate Mo. I must see about getting a mold made. Check prices. If it's reasonable I shall make and post about the chocolate Mo. Bring it on CAIR.

Gravatar The "My Sweet Lord" display was shut down by the hotel that houses the Lab Gallery in midtown Manhattan, said Matt Semler, the gallery's creative director. Semler said he submitted his resignation after officials at the Roger Smith Hotel shut down the show.

The six-foot sculpture was the victim of "a strong-arming from people who haven't seen the show, seen what we're doing," Semler said. "They jumped to conclusions completely contrary to our intentions."

LAME. This kind of thing really dissapoints me.

Gravatar "The Christ sculpture was scheduled to be displayed April 2-7 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a final showing from midnight to 1 a.m. on Easter Sunday. Its location on the first floor ensured attention from the thousands of passers-by in the busy neighborhood just north of Grand Central Terminal."

It was probably a bad idea from the get go. I thought it was just going to be in a gallery. I didn't know they were planning on showcasing the "art piece" to thousands of pedestrians. I just don't understand why the guy thought a chocolate naked Jesus wouldn't cause controversy.

Gravatar Still, I don't think they should have cancelled it ... Bill Donohue is an ass.

Gravatar Well if was the prophet M. they'd be burning down the house!

Gravatar As a Christian I get annoyed (ok, actually I get down right P.O'd!) at these sorts of antics - and not so much for what they are, as for the reason they were created in the first place. They are created to demean, mock and desecrate every single symbol of Christianity and the people who believe in and practice the religion.

The icing on these people cake is to display them during our only two Holy days - Christmas and Easter.

These people NEVER do this with ANY other religion! Then if someone complains, they are told to lighten up - it's just our freedom of speech/expression. Yet these same people would never make a chocolate Ghanesh/Buddha/moo-ham-head/etc/etc (there are thousands of religions around the world) either because of fear or respect (fear of muslims and respect for everybody else).

It seems that only Christianity commands this sort of utter contempt and venom.

Gravatar "It seems that only Christianity commands this sort of utter contempt and venom."

It's apparently threatening to many. Funny they don't seem to view islam in the same way.

Gravatar Someone should have just hung asign on the statues protruberance that said
"Sweet Mohamed"

Gravatar It's apparently threatening to many. Funny they don't seem to view islam in the same way.
darwin

That's because we don't want anybody to go to hell and we TELL them their behaviour has eternal consequences. The left likes to believe they can do anything they want with no consequences whatsoever - to do that, they have to attack the belief in God.

As for the islamofascists - I think they (the left) admires their absolute POWER over their people. Right now, I think it's a case of, "the enemy of my enemy is my frend," but I believe they would trade in their liberty for that power. That's what makes them so dangerous.

Someone should have just hung asign on the statues protruberance that said
"Sweet Mohamed"
WMD_Maker

WMD - while I understand what you're saying, it is still NOT funny to me. Sorry, don't mean to sound so stuffy, but my faith is very important to me (it's number ONE over everything!).

I will TRY for some humor (but I may fail - it's been a REALLY long week!) by reminding people that not only did Jesus preach peace, he also took a bullwhip and kick the snot out of a whole churchload of people. The Bible doesn't say that HE took a bullwhip into the place of worship until he was taken down by three guys - it says HE drove them ALL out!

HE will also come back as a conquerer! My LORD is NO wimp!

Gravatar Thin ice here....but do you think Jesus would have cared if someone make a chocolate sculpture of him?

I get the point that had this been any other "prophet" all hell would be breaking loose. But why is it so bad? I mean I've seen non-chocolate sculptures of Christ on the cross and no one freaks on that.

Again Wit, I understand your indignation at the utter contempt for Christianity that is so accepted and now, the norm worldwide, but is this really that bad? Just atheist curiosty here.

Gravatar It's bad in the sense that people seem so free and ready to bash Christianity and anything associated with it. Is it worth going nuts over? No. Should people speak up if it bothers them? Sure.

What I'd really like to see is some equal attention given to the atrocities of islam and why not print pictures of "art" that shows mohammed in an unfavorable light?

Dobson gets carried away with his tactics I believe. I don't like him, although I think he was right in going after the that vicious Marcotte chick.

Gravatar "But why is it so bad? I mean I've seen non-chocolate sculptures of Christ on the cross and no one freaks on that."

I think it's the fact the sculpture was nude with a "schwanz" hanging down that bothered some people.

All in all, it's not Christ. It's just chocolate.

Gravatar what else will those heatans do to dipsell us christians its enough they make a virgin mary in elephant dung and if that jerks wasnt happen imursing a picture of jesus in urine now its this SCREW SECULAR SCUM

Gravatar Firebird - if your faith is so strong, than why would you even pay notice?

Kitty, not that you are smart enough to understand, nor do you deserve any kind of answer because you are so offensive, I'll give you an answer.

It has nothing to do with the strength of our faith. Some idiot's depiction of Christ as a Chocolate bar won't change our faith, it's the lengths that some of these asshats will aspire to offend people of faith. This is not art. If it is art, than any turd you leave in a toilet bowl is a masterpiece. This is about assailing our culture in the name of free speech.

It's repugnant because it attempts to insult us. True art is about inspiration and challenging the human spirit, not insulting it.

You only appreciate it from the standpoint of confrontation. Because you think it belittles people of faith it somehow justifies it and gives it some kind of status.

Would you have been so charitable had he attacked something you hold dear?

On the other hand, I doubt there is anyhing you value enough that something like that could offend. And that, my dear Twitard, is sad indeed.

Gravatar "And don't you know that the purpose of the first amendment is to protect offensive speech?"

Don't post here any longer unless you know what the hell you're talking about. The intent of the 1st amendment was to protect POLITICAL SPEECH. Got it?

Plus, just because someone can do something, or say something doesn't necessarily mean they should ... does it now?

It you wish to consider the US to be a civilized nation, then that should include respect for the beliefs of others.

Now go away ...

Gravatar Typical response from you. That's one reason why you're not wanted here. You never follow thru with any discussion ... just stupid one liners.

Take the hint.

Gravatar Listen up Twitard, I can answer any freaking thing here. Hell you do. At least what I say at least makes some semblance of sense.

I didn't say the asshat didn't have the right, let the turd brain make all the chocolate Christs he wants! I just said it was repugnant. I also said it was not art. Maybe he'll get real freaking brave and make a Mohamed out of lard. You and I know that won't happen. Despite your hatred for anything Christian, this guy won't be threatened.

Here you are telling me what posts I can or can't respond to and Jenn has told you many time to leave and not post at all! That is liberal reasoning!

Gravatar If there is a God, he is probably over it by now. You should be too!

Gravatar If there is a God, he is probably over it by now. You should be too!
Sherri

And THERE it is! That's the sentiment I was referring to. To disrespect and denigrate a group of people so utterly that they are the first people that comes to mind if you want to insult or belittle them and their beliefs.

It's not what they do, it's WHY they do it.

Gravatar Hey, all in all, it's just chocolate. No one is pushing a pamphlet in your face trying to encourage you to switch to Atheism. Sorry dude, but I was of the opinion that the Arab world should have just had a good laugh at the Mohammed cartoon, treat it like the crappy fluff it was, and let the whole damn thing die. It wasn't worth making such a huge fuss over.

Same principal applies to the chocolate statue. It's not worth getting hot under the collar over it; in fact, when you think about it, that's probably exactly what the creator wanted! Don't give him the satisfaction!

Gravatar sherri - Well, DUH! Ya think?!? AGAIN (said in exasperation) it's not WHAT they do - it's the INTENT behind it.

I can quite honestly say it doesn't bother me at all - the only thing that comes to mind when I hear of these things is: "jerk"

I also love how they do this nonsense during either Christmas or Easter. You never hear them "unveiling" this stuff in August.

Gravatar Of course not Wit. What's the fun in that. It would be only half as insulting.

Gravatar Actually, I would LOVE for this guy to unveil this thing here in August! It would be chocolate soup in 3 minutes!

Gravatar Notice they never make chocolate Charles Darwin or Che' or Bill Clinton.

It's offensive because 1) Christ crucified doesn't beg artistic interpretations by heathen, 3) scripture denotes Jesus has having a loin clothe during crucifixion and this was an overt attempt to expose him in a way he does not deserve (although apparently the model used himself as the physical likeness because Jesus is far too manly to resemble *that* and 2) the artist invited viewers to lick and eat Jesus.
