vanessa, let's see. I bet if you polled 100% of the homeless and destitutely poor people, then 94% of them would be un happy with thier lives. This poll was designed to test average Americans according to Harris. Maybe some of the 6% who were not happy were homeless or extremely poor and that is why they answered negatively. Oh and by the way, just for the record, in this country you can be poor and have a home, three squares, cable television, a computer and a car. Our definition of poor is not those scrabbling at the rear exits of the restruants for scraps. The poor in this country have a better standard of living than the middle classes of many other nations. As for the homeless, may God bless them and provide them shelter, but even they have a better chance here than anywhere else on the planet. Go watch Pursuit of Happiness.
Lester, yeah it would be so stupid to credit Bush for the our exemplary economy, the low unemployment, the rise in average wages. It is however acceptable to lash everything that is negative around his neck like a dead weight. Don't blame him for no terrorist attacks in six years, but blame him for the failure of state and local governments to evacuate their populations before a major hurricane. Don't blame him for a soaring stock market and a robust economy, but blame him for rising gas prices and the collapse of an aging bridge. Don't blame Bush for the low unemployment rate that we currently have, but blame him for not making sure there are absolutely no poor or homeless anywhere in this country.
For starters, Jenn's comment was satire, but it make as much sense to blame him for everything good in this country as it does to blame him for everything bad that happens like the left so frequently does.

They did a study of the "bums" of O.B. here in SD. They conducted this study by putting an undercover journalist in with them for 2 weeks. They had no idea.
Of the 67 that lived in OB she had contact with 53 of them and 53 of them LOVED their life. Most did drugs, most drank and most admitted where they were was their fault, but, they liked it because they had no responsibility.
Remember I lived amongst them for some time.
Now, of course this isn't the case across the board but you'll find, from my own personal experience, that those who want out can get out. Those who don't won't.

Yep, blame Bush. President Bush did make a bad mistake in the war on terrorism. But the mistake was not his decision to go to war in Iraq. Bush's mistake came in his belief that this country is the same one his father fought for in WWII. It is not.
Back then, they had just come out of a vicious depression. The country was steeled by the hardship of that depression. But they still believed fervently in this country. They knew that the people had elected their leaders, so it was the people's duty to back those leaders. Therefore, when the war broke out the people came together, rallied behind, and stuck with their leaders, whether they had voted for them or not or whether the war was going badly or not. And, war was just as distasteful and the anguish just as great then as it is today.
You never heard prominent people on the radio belittling the President. Interestingly enough, in those days there were no fat cat actors and entertainers who ran off to visit and fawn over dictators of hostile countries and complain to them about our President. Instead, they made upbeat films and entertained our troops to help the troops' morale. (I know this for a fact - you can still see those films today-Gmom). And a bunch even enlisted. And imagine this, teachers in schools actually started the day off with a pledge of allegiance, and with prayers for our country and our troops! Back then, no newspaper would have dared point out certain weak spots in our cities where bombs could be set off to cause the maximum damage. No newspaper would have dared complain about what we were doing to catch spies. A newspaper would have been laughed out of existence if it had complained that German or Japanese soldiers were being "tortured" by being forced to wear women's underwear, or subjected to interrogation by a woman, or being scared by a dog or did not have air coNo, President Bush did not make a mistake in his handling of terrorism. He made the mistake of believing that we still had the courage and fortitude of our fathers. He believed that this was still the country that our fathers fought so dearly to preserve. It is not the same country. It is now a cross between Sodom and Gomorra and the Land of Oz We even have the wicked witch of the west as the new Speaker of the House of Representativesnditioning.
