I don't know how you folks can watch those shelter commericials! I saw one yesterday that tore my heart out. It showed a bunch of them in cages and a family coming in to pick one out - there was a Golden Lab puppy that was all exited and then the family left without him. He looked soooo sad I almost ran out to get him - then I remembered that I live in a condo and Miss Daisy (also a shelter dog) is all I can handle. (sniff-sob!)
If I ever get that piece of dirt in Wyoming, I'll fill it with doggies!

I sponsor a dog at North Shore Animal League already but yesterday was watching Animal Planet and they had the commercial on for the ASPCA and I was crying by the end of it, whipping out my debit card and going to town for a monthly support pledge.
I don't have a lot of money, but it takes so little.

I helped you again again Jenn. So great what you do. Touching story about Diggz and Birdy. I got a shelter dog(Angus) 3 years ago after losing our beloved Scotty, Goofy.
not sure what Angus went through because I got him from his 3rd foster home and she wasn't sure or wasn't telling.He had total issues most of which will probably never be forgotten but calmed. The funniest thing his last foster mom said to me was how she couldn't get anything done while he was there because she felt like she had a toddler in the house for 2 months(and she had 4 other dogs that were her own).Of course she tells me this after I got him home and called her from one state away.
Turns out she was 100% correct. Like I said "calmed" but not forgotten.
It did help with nicknames for him.
We call him Ozzy because he is "off the rails"sometimes. Gotta love him!
Thank you sooooo much Lisa. Diggz was horribly abused by his first "owners" and he never fully got over it no matter how much love and spoiling he got.
Birdy still has people trust issues, but she's getting over it will all the attention she gets. The training helped as well.
Try taking Angus to class...it may seem a mute point but it's never too late for class.

I know I keep saying I should. He really is a sweetheart. He loves attention too but only in the house. For my own sanity anyway.
He is very comical though an the side that isn't a looney tune is just so great.
He loves all dogs anywhere anytime and people he only likes in the house. My last guy like all dogs but no people in the house.
I just can't find a happy medium.
LOL....Birdy likes all dogs, no people in the house and is getting used to people outside. When I first got her....she would cry and whine and piddle if someone came up to her. Now she just shy's away.. but more and more (with treats) she goes up to people. It's like watching a bud blossom.
Isn't it such a shame how people treat animals like it's just another day? Bastards!
Daisy loves all dogs and no one in the house - she growled at my first house-guest. This is my mom's third visit and she's still shy around her - but she's a little better. My mom complained that Daisy has started to open the bathroom door to check to see where she is.
When people leave the house and she's still there, you'll never see a happier doggy!
Good advice about the training - I've thought about several times and really should follow up on it. My Daisy has never had a lick of training (it's very obvious) and the only reason I have any control over her at all is she is so terrified of being abandoned (yet again) that she sticks to me like glue!
PS - I am currently mopping my laundryroom with a vinegar & water mixture because she got annoyed with me for going to Church this morning! Stinky! Stinky!

Oye... Birdy is a bit of a Velcro Dog. But I had to get here to stop being sooooooooo dependant on me. It resulted in mass destruction of the home when I left.
Treat stuffed toys help. Leaving the TV on, music and of course training.
That is so funny you said velcro dog because that's what we call Angus but for a different reason,everything sticks to fine hair like velcro. When the Imus thing happened my husband says to the dog "I may get get in trouble for this but you are one knappy haired schmo."

Lisa! Glad to see I'm not the only one dealing with the hair issue - GOOD GRIEF! I have to vacuum every single day! Daisy watches me and then rolls all over the carpets again and just looks at me with those big brown sad/guilty (she's a Basset Hound so she does guilt well) eyes when I tell her to STOP THAT! Ggrr! Aww every girl deserves a Spa Day! Angus will not be bathed by a stranger. He even has to be sedated to go to the vet. Every April is his appointment and I dread it every time.
