Guiliani is reported to be ready to endorse McCain tomorrow. The last debate should bear that out. I smelled a rat when McCain went off topic to heap praise on Rudy. I'll bet dimes to dollars they agreed that Rudy would pull out if he didn't show in Florida. Rudy had to be on another planet if he thouht that he could sue gun manufacturers and then win a republian primary in Florida.
If McCain wins the nomination I'd expect Rudy to be invited at least as the Attorney General if not the #2 spot.
Fox is calling Florida for McCain and Huckabee is chanting onward Christian soldiers.
Hillary gave her Victory speech which moved me to the bathroom, and the MEDIA in their divine immunity from criticism continues to break the election down along racial, gender, and religious lines.

There is no way McCain, Mr. Amesty pulled those numbers.

I think it's clear that McCain and Guiliani have formed an alliance. The question I have to ask is when was the plan hatched ?
If you review the last Republican debate, there was a moment when McCain changed the cadence of the discussion when he went off topic to simnply articulate his admiration and support for Guiliani. At the time, I thought it seemed strange that a candidate would basically call a time out in the middle of the playoffs to congratulate his opponent, especially with the Florida Primary looming on the horizon given the effort that Guiliani had put into that state. Could they have agreed to set egoes aside in anticipation of the result we saw last night? Both MCain and Guiliani gave speeches last night that were nuanced with inferences to "the greater good" and keeping the "real goal" in sight. Both men are pragmatists. I think they both realize they can capitalize on the split religious conservative vote that Romney and Huckabee are forcing.
Let's for a moment consider what the outlook would be if Romney and Huckabee brokered a similar plan. If they could get past their personal differences and Huckabee would admit to the realization that his Iowa win was an anomaly, albeit a large one, and throw his support behin the "other" religious candidate, then the religious conservative vote would be galvanized squarley behind Romney. That would probably be enough to snatch the nomination from McCain. However, since Romney and Huckabee seem to be determined to split the religious conservative vote they are handing McCain a victory on a silver platter. This will do nothing to energize conservatives in the general election and only strengthens the hand of either Obama or Clinton for that contest.
Both GOP candidates that I supported, Hunter and Thompson, are out of the race and I really have serious issues with the remaining snake oil salesmen. However those issues pale in comparison to any raised by the spector of an Obama or Clinton Presidency.
I think McCain MAY stand a chance against Clinton in a debate. Both are angered easly, neither have any semblance of statesman like oratory, and neither have an astecially pleasing portrait. In a general election between Clinton and McCain, NEITHER of them would have to say a word to get the voters to the polls. The Republicans would be out in force voting to ensure Clinton wasn't elected just on principal alone and the Clintonistas would be lining up to try and ensure they get their government hand outs.
However, I'm afraid Obama would shred McCain in a debate and energize his following of media sound bite lemmings to get out to the polls while McCain's 'supporters' would stay home with their tail between their legs after what would clearly be an embarrassing defeat at the debate podium. Add to that the disenchanted religious conservatives staying home after a Huckabee and Romney loss of the nomination the GOP is setting themselves up for failure.
In my opinion, the best way forward would be for Huckabee to drop out and support Romney. That would (should) move Romney past McCain and truly put the GOP on a path to 'the greater good' and the 'real goal' here, which is to elect a Republican to the White House. As much as I hate the sound of it, Romney seems to be the only one left who would stand a chance against either socialist, Obama or Clinton.
I really don't think Huckabee is staying in the race to hurt Romney. I thik he's staying in the race because he is
A) too egotistical to drop out
or
B) too stupid to see he's hurting the people he's trying to help
As for Edwards dropping out, perhaps he has a love child to feed. In any event, I don't think the impact is anywhere near as much as Guiliani pulling out.
When Guiliani pulled out, it favored McCain which WILL have a negative impact on the General election. Edwards retirement really favors no-one since the negatives asssociated with EITHER Hillary and Obama are overwhelming.
They. Must. Be. Beaten.

This is what we get when so-called Conservatives throw their support behind Liberal Republicans like McCain and Guiliani. They have abandoned their core conservative principles to back candidates that they have been told by so-called conservative "experts" (like Guiliani loving Sean Hannity) who are "electable".
What they don't seem to understand is this:
They haven't abandoned their conservative principles because Conservative candidates are unelectable. Conservative candidates are unelectable because they have abandoned their principles.

Not only all primaries be held on the same day, but should not be determined by time zones. In other words Hawaii poles open at 6am and New York opens at noon the same day, with ours opening at 9am. poles stay open for 10 hours, and then no time zone or state has any advantage.
