You have no idea what this war on terror really is - a war on the United States as an ideal! Not the people, not the place, but the idea of freedom and responsibility for self that we enjoy and heck, even abuse sometimes. But it's the constant attack on these freedoms from a "religious" group (islam, no matter how you slice it) that is the true war. As long as the United States stands for these ideals, then we will continue to be the target of these fanatics.
Yes, if we subjugate our ideals, then we would no longer be attacked - but then we would no longer be the United States, would we? This land would come under the jurisdiction of muslim and sharia law. Do me (and everyone else who posts here) a favor, and google "sharia law" and "muslim" and "islam" and then find AND READ a copy of the Koran (or Qu'ran, or however it's being spelled this week) and see for yourself what kind of training and thought process is being patterned on those people's minds.
THEN maybe you will start to understand why the truly patriotic of this country are so dead set against letting the islamic believers and muslims take over, and why they need to be stopped, once and for all.
