The military handled it properly. They did not punish the guy who did it, but took back the initative. They did what they had to do. There is nothing outrageous in showing repect and humility to the Koran.
What if he had done the same to the Iraqi flag? Would you have the same complaint? If someone were using our flag for target practice while a guest in our country, many people would be outraged. We would not be surprised if the visitor's government apologized according to American custom.

Quick note to those out there who might be having doubts about this thing called "Christianity":
While Namevet proclaimed he was a Christian, his actions don't speak well for the name. Yes, Gawfer held up some pretty strong verses to Namvet, and Namvet lashed out. That's human nature. I have lashed out at people who have tried to correct me. However, in the long run, I have learned that it is not one human judging another in this family called Christianity. It is, instead, the followers of Christ trying to hold each other up and be held up to the standards and guides left by Jesus Christ, not as a way to tear each other apart (although that sometimes appears to be the result) but to build one another up in order to better our lives and be closer to the ideal that is Christianity.
Please don't judge the body by the fringe. While I am sure that Namvet meant well, his actions did not help the furtherance of Christ, and he will see that in time, if he is truly committed to being a Christian.
