This Is Not A Democracy, It's A Republic........

Gravatar Good show! Don't know if you kicked me off for being too 'liberal' or my phone went doodad.

But it was fun. I'll tune in again.

Gravatar I got booted off thanks to a drunk driver who managed to take out the cable tv and internet in the neighborhood. sheeeesh !!

Gravatar Ahhhh!! They just approved "Black only" schools in Toronto... Crazy... What an awful idea!

Gravatar "They just approved "Black only" schools in Toronto"

Well at least the rest of Toronto will be able to get an education.

Gravatar Wit
I wonder why they are not just teaching the kids how to properly grease their arses when bending over to Mecca.

Gravatar LOL, WMD! That might be in phys-ed!

Gravatar I find I'm not caring very much about cut cables in the ME. Without technology (OUR technology) maybe they'll crawl back into their sand holes.....

Gravatar Oh - I forgot - it must be the jooooossss!

Gravatar Wit - the squirrls eat the cables anyway.

Gravatar "Wit - the squirrls eat the cables anyway."

Nuts.

Gravatar That's some squirrel that can chew a cable at the bottom of the ocean!

Anyway - here's a Friday Funnie:

Gravatar Cutting communication lines can be a precursor to bigger shennanigans. Like attacks, wars and financial turmoil.

Oh,I forgot, we already have all those.

Gravatar Great show! Excellent links!

Gravatar Yeah, but Billy - those links are over THERE! None of our communcations have been cut. If anything, they have to travel THROUGH us to get connected.

That's not altogether a bad thing in my book!

Gravatar Guess who lost ALL internet connectivity.

Look for the big fat 0

Gravatar May I clarify: There is a difference between "arrest" and "charge". Just because someone is arrested, it does not outomatically follow that s/he will be charged with a crime.

Secondly, I am sick unto death of the uninformed spouting that the UK does not have a constitution. No Shane, it is not "left up to the Queen".

Written constitutions are generally the product of revolutions. As the UK has not had a revolution, our constitution derives from several different sources rather than one document. The UK is a Constitutional Monarchy. The sources of the UK Constitution are: -

The Magna Carta 1215
The Bill of Rights 1689
The Act of Settlement 1700
The Act of Union 1707
The Parliament Acts 1911 & 1949
The European Communities Act 1972
The Human Rights Act 1998; and

Case law and Constitutional Conventions.

The free speech you think was eroded by the amendments to the Public Order Act 1986 relate to threatening words and behavior. Threatening speech is not protected in the US either btw. In fact, threatening words or behavior is the simpliciter offence. The "religious" bit is the aggravated offence. (kind of like American "hate crime" legislation, d'oh!)

For anyone who thinks the US founding fathers pulled their legal norms out of their collective asses, I would remind friends that about half were trained as English barristers.

It is irritating in the extreme listening to people how have not bothered to educate themselves slag off the UK. That is a bit of a recurring theme with our Shane, hold forth first, then find out the real story.

Should anyone require any further information as to the various forms of government around the world, may I suggest taking a class at one's local community college.

Gravatar What is the Human Rights Act of 1998?

Gravatar Well chap my ass, Ms. Kris!

Gravatar I believe the Human Rights Act of 1998 is a product of the EU and most of the UKs woes, these days. They've done a pretty valiant job of skirting the thing, but they should just withdraw from it - which has been debated. Labour is for it (the act) - everybody else is against it and wants to withdraw, as it contradicts English common law.

I wouldn't necessarily say that all Constitutions are the result of a revolution - and one of England's greatest boasts is that they have no written constitution - but over 1000 years of builded common law precepts.

I don't know who Shane is - but he sounds - well- uninformed.

Our Founding Fathers did indeed take just about all our fundemental concepts from British foundations. I believe the Declaration of Independence was pretty well plagerized from John Locke writtings - they are almost identical!

I'm English and I LOVE England. I wish they would do more to save themselves. I hate seeing them let their culture be downgraded in the name of "tolerance."

Let islam be islam - in islam. We NEED England to be English! That's what makes the world interesting!

Gravatar Viva la Angelicans!

Gravatar Viva la Angelicans!
a

You know saying that, of course, can get you shot - well - just about everywhere these days!

Gravatar I am just trying to think what other jurisdictions have an unwritten constitution like the UK. New Zealand?
Any offers?

Oh yes, Wit, there are more than a few of us that want out of "Europe". Did you know Europe's latest stunt is to try to get the UK to strip references to the Queen and being British subjects to "European citizens" on UK passports?

Gravatar http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons...iv/ add_req.html

I wanna know how LH slipped through the cracks into my country.

Gravatar LH ?

Gravatar Yeah...LH? Who or what is that?

Gravatar Lionheart the blogger. Don't ya'll actually listen to the show????

Gravatar :O

For the life of me I couldn't figure out what the reference was to.

I kept looking for LH in the link

and yup, I heard the show. I had to listen to the balance of it on archives because I was cut off by someone who should have been cutoff at the bar.

Gravatar You didn't call him LH to his face on the show. But yeah...I'm as thick as a plank.

Gravatar Bricks are thicker. Jethro Tull taught me that.

Gravatar Plank vs brick. Sounds like a reality show!

Gravatar Yikes! No kidding, Kris! They aren't asking that of other countries. My thought on that is because the Brits still have a stiffer backbone and still suffer from a national identity, whereas the "others" have totally capitulated.

Along the same lines (and you might start bringing this up to your compadres) is the EU is Frances pet monkey and you know the French hate the Brits and have never won a war against England. Nice revenge, eh?

One last thing - the UK has ALWAYS been alergic to Europe! The symptoms are already starting to manifest themselves!
