Ollie called it. You don't even have to be a democrat or republican to see that the agenda in Congress is to distract the public from real issues.
Instead of spending all their time passing meaningless bills calling for a withdrawl from Iraq or this witch-hunt for the AG, they should spend their time working on real issues like the weakening dollar, educational spending, and healthcare costs (and no freebie health fantasies like clinton offered today).

uhh actually hate to break it to you guys but ollie wrote an op ed about a month ago strongly AGAINST the surge and in fact, was highly critical of joe Lieberman and john mcain and questioned the veracity of their rheotic regarding the people they talked to in Iraq.
North claimed he knew all of them and would not have responded in the affirmative to the type of ideas and statements put forth by mcain, kagan and co.

More Troops = More Targets
by Oliver North (More by this author)
Posted: 01/05/2007
For months, advisers to President George W. Bush have been trying to convince the commander in chief that more U.S. troops in Iraq will improve prospects for victory. Senators John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), both recently returned from Iraq (and a courageous surprise stopover in Ramadi, capital of bloody Al Anbar Province) also support adding more American troops. Unfortunately, they are wrong.
"I believe there is still a compelling reason to have an increase in troops here in Baghdad and in Anbar province in order to bring the sectarian violence under control," McCain said after his visit. For his part, Lieberman said the idea of sending another 30,000 troops to Iraq is "exactly" the course of action he hopes to see the president take.
McCain and Lieberman talked to many of the same officers and senior NCOs I covered for FOX News during my most recent trip to Iraq. Not one of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Guardsmen or Marines I interviewed told me that they wanted more U.S. boots on the ground. In fact, nearly all expressed just the opposite: "We don't need more American troops, we need more Iraqi troops," was a common refrain. They are right

I don't think the surge is seen as permanently putting and keeping more troops there. Baghdad and surrounding areas had become so infested that just expecting the Iraqi's to clean it up wasn't realistic.
I think we all agree that the Iraqi's need to take over major responsibilities as soon as possible.

Ollie is right about the dems though ... they will do anything and sacrifice anything to score political hits. They really don't give a damn about anything except polls and votes.

All right Lestard, I read Ollie's missive. He has a point. His point is send more "trainers" over rather than combat troops. That would still be sending targets there.
Regardless, I disagree with him. I am allowed to do that 'eh.

The demon-rats are doing just what they promised to do - start endless investigations and issue endless subpoenas. Promise kept.
End the war by pretending to fund the troops but instead using the money that would have gone to supply them, (with bodyarmour, bullets, equipement repairs and those nifty new armoured vehicles that can withstand an IED) but instead going for pork projects such as peanut storage, spinach production, and issuing a timeline for withdrawal. Promise almost kept. The prez will veto, of course, but HEH! At least they TRIED!
The big lie they are now spouting (except I beleieve THEY actually believe it!) is that this is what the American people voted them into office to do.
What a joke! Not a single one of these creeps stood on any issues, had any platform. Their motto was for change - but never defining that change. Had we had more true conservatives in office (like George Allen and Rick Santorum who unfortunately got caught in the wave) and not the rino's we had there perhaps we would have a prayer.
Now all we can do is sit back and watch these socialist hacks make a train wreck out of our country.
Won't take them long - look at the hell Jimmah Carter caused in just four years. THAT was 30 years ago - they've gotten much better at it over the years. Two years should be plenty of time for them flush this country right down the toilet.

OT: I heard a hilarious radio commercial today. It was for one of those on-star type car directional systems. You hear the wife say, "Go left!" The husband exclaims, "NO! We've been going left since Roosevelt!" Then the on-star fella says his spiel (alluding to the political slant you DON'T have control over, but this system gives you the control over WHERE you travel on the road). Then you hear the female directional voice say, "Go right."
Pretty funny!

Bush's lack of results is going to make it almost impossible for a conservative to get elected for the next 12-16 years.
If he had stayed focused and gotten something accomplished and if he had listened to the military and gone into Iraq the way we planned since 1991, then he might not have had all these issues and Iraq would be a much nicer place today.
But he has become the poster child to get the vote out for liberals, and will probably continue to be the motivating factor long after he is gone.
The deficit that he burnt through over the last 6+ years is astounding and that will be felt long after the problems in Iraq are over.
On other points its dispicable that he made such a rookie mistake with Abhu Grahib, and letting weapons of mass destruction get out of Iraq.
I suspect the liberals will vote on impeachment (unsuccessfully) before the year is out over the Attorney General attempt to hijack justice from the grass roots up(another rookie mistake). Its unfortunate that they will not impeach him for letting Syria get their hands on Sadam's goods or for the inevitable fall of Iraq to Iran.
Bush is probably the best thing that ever happened to Iran and Syria.
Ronald Reagan was smart enough to bring effective people in to get the job done (like Ollie North).
Next time conservatives pony up to the plate for the Presidential election they better land a smart president and not someone that claims a handicap but bolsters it with a 'good' VP.

Brett - Why do you keep referring to a two-term president as "rookie".
I won't try to address all your erroneous verbage, just one - the '91 military plan.
The recommended plan was to oust Saddam while were were there. However, the military was held short. It's the same kind of mistake made when Patton wasn't allowed to fight the Russians after WW2. If he had, there would have been no cold war. Likewise, if we had taken Saddam out in '91, Iraq would be relatively stable now.
Bush Jr. did exactly that, took out Saddam - quickly too. How is that not a specific objective?
Most of the bombings are secular Shia and Sunni in-fighting, not entirely directed at US troops. I find it difficult to measure Bush's success by his ability to resolve a 1500 year old religious problem.

There's a huge difference between plausible theories and crackpot theories like 9-11 was an inside job.
It's quite possible that WMD were spirited off to Syria, especially when you have a sitting Senator making a trip by himself to Syria in 2002 to warn them Bush was planning on invading Iraq.
SEN. ROCKEFELLER: No. The — I mean, this question is asked a thousand times and I'll be happy to answer it a thousand times. I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq — that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11.
Nice guy.

What a joke! Not a single one of these creeps stood on any issues, had any platform.
I can see why that happened. The Republican Party, in abandoning every conceivable principle it has, now looks like the Democrat-lite Party.
I can see why it was easy to confuse the two. Damn those confused voters.
So, we can either bash moonbats or we can look to how fucked up your party is (it certainly isn't mine...not in the sad ass shape it's in now) and figure out what to do going forward.
I will hold my tongue on Rick Santorum other than to say he's a big-government statist who is much a part of the problem as the rest of them. He and Hillary can go hug each other and share stories about their collectivist viewpoints. I'm sure it'd be romantic.
Of course, as a libertarian, it's very tempting to tell the Republican Party to self fornicate. However, I'd almost rather eat broken glass than ally myself with any Democrat. I have far more in common with the "Old Right", which never was much to begin with but far more than the Democrats.
And people wonder why I'm pissed off all the time.

"a good way to avoid perjury is to TELL THE TRUTH"
You don't get it. Telling the truth doesn't matter and it isn't what the dems are looking for. They're looking for any inconsistency or disagreement with other's statements to accuse everyone they possibly can of perjury. They know there was nothing illegal about canning those attorneys and they don't care ... they just want to keep this senseless mess in the limelight up til the '08 election. All they need are some flimsy accusations of perjury so they can scream for a special counsel appointment and drag this thing into '08.
