Great entry on Kipling, it's always good to revisit his respect for his country and its soldiers. I just have a trivial comment; you mention Kipliing died in 1939 two years before the start of WWII, many Brits believe WWII started in September of 1939 when Britian and France declared war on Germany. Granted, it didn't become a "World" war untill we joined in 1941, but since Kip was a Brit couldn't we say he lived until the first year of WWII?
