Talk to the Goat

I used to love the simplicity of The GAP (OK, I still do). Straight lines & simple colors, no frilly girlie, girl things there...but now, that's all changing! How you seen The GAP Body stores? Same simple designs (& limited colors)...but now they sell soft cotton undies. They have a line of stretch thongs that don't hurt while they're buried up your ass. Also, they just came out with bathing suit tops & bottoms. They're sold separately...which is cool if you happen to have any chest at all.

I'm with you on the freedom of choice & finding your own style thing. I'm very fortunate to have grown up with a mother who believed in the church of the blessed Bloomingdales. I truly believe, if you can't find a killer outfit there, it can not be done.

goodwill all the way. i live for the secondhand brand.

did you know old navy is owned by the gap? this befuddles me.

Yes, I do know that. I worked there. So is Banana Republic.

I converted from The Gap empire (all three brands) to Anthropologie. A huge damper on my wallet, but talk about variety. Enjoyed this post a lot, ever considered editorials?

I don't go near the gap...I must say I buy all my clothes at Hot Topic...the only store for me. I fell in love with Hot Topic a few years ago.. Then proceeded to get tattoos and facial piercings so someday I will be cool enough to work there!

"Khakis are okay, but sometimes you just want a slutty mini skirt, and The Gap just ain't giving"

I know what you mean, I've had those moments, but do you know how hard it is for a youngish man to walk into Gap and speak the words "I'm looking for something a bit different - I guess I just want a slutty mini skirt?" Not easy, really not easy.

I never understood the fascination my friends had with the Gap. I shopped the whole mall over from day one.

I've never figured out the GAP attraction (so to speak) although I get a lot of Baby Gap from a grandmother who is addicted to outlet stores.

For myself, I prefer anything from Goodwill.

Halarious! LoL.

If there was a Hot Topic in Canada, I would be shopping there. For now, I shop at Garage Clothing, International Clothiers, and whichever kids' stores whose clothes I can fit into (go Northern Getaway!). I don't really think I have a style.

However, if I had the $$, I'd blow it all getting custom clothes from Peach Berserk. I lust everything inside that store. I have a 25$ shirt (marked down 50%) and a 500$ prom dress (which I will most likely never wear again). While very expensive, all the clothes are handmade and they are amazing. Everyone who works in the store is so nice and, when it comes to custom-made clothing, they ask your opinion every step of the way.

Ha ha ha If that's not a plug, I don't know what is.

Also, I've never bought or owned anything from the Gap.

Jesus, an entire post about clothes. I'll take this as a metaphor for... something and be able to live with myself.

Ugh, I unfortunately am very limited as to where I can buy my jeans, and the Gap is one of the three places that carries them in a size 8 with a 34-35" inseam in stock. I don't particularly like their stuff, but beggars can't be choosers. Ever since they hired Sarah J-P to be their spokesmodel, I like it even less, It sucks being a slave to long legs.

Gap (as it is branded in jolly ole england) seems universal. Though in the UK it does not have such a domination over the population.
I have to admit, i like a lot of Gap clothing....but then i guess the khaki style suits a guy everyday. Lets face it, if you fill our wardrobes with bright colours we will still wear black, blue or grey in case any of our friends think we have turned gay overnight (not that being gay is a bad thing.....it just doesnt go with my wardrobe).

Recently though i have begun to discover clothes, i kind of like looking good. But after years of wearing jeans and t shirts i have the colour co-ordination and style of a blind hippy on acid.
I came to work the other day in a new shirt with a plant design down one side and was mortified when somone said i was wearing a Hawaiian shirt....sometimes i think we should just stick to khaki

When I asked, my humans told me there is no such thing as a Gap in Frostbite Falls. We do have a teeny mini weeny "mall" which has a shop in it where humans can get clothes. But in there from what I've seen through the window is mostly clothes you wear when you carry a hunting rifle or fishing pole or camping stuff. There a few stylish t-shirts with Meese and squirrels on them too, which caters to the "in-crowd."

Oh, and the clerks are very snobby in there too. One time my sidekick tried to bring me in with him and was told "unless he's buying, he ain't 'llowed in (spit)"

So we stay away from those kinds of high-class places. But I see your need for clothes, you humans don't have any fur - what's up with that, some trick of evolution or something?

In the words of Stan Nichols, from the Urban 75 Boycott the B*st*rds page... GAP are not in the top 5 but should be...

'GAP, Inc should definitely be included in with boycott top five , not only for their refusal to pay workers a living wage, but also for not allowing their plants to be inspected by other sub-contractors they hire. The Fisher family (founders of Gap, Inc which includes, Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy) is reported to be worth 11 billion U.S. dollars, Donald Fisher alone: 8 billion. Gap CEO, Millard Drexler makes over 24,000 per HOUR! Not only can they not afford to pay a decent wage to their workers, but they can't afford to pay for conservation or restoration plans for the 235,000 acres of old growth forest they bought from Louisiana Pacific in Mendocino and Sonoma Counties. They are rapidly logging and killing the ecosystem in Northern California to make a greasy dollar. When the land is dead, it

i agree with yer commment 'shop at any store as long as its an informed decision'....thats why i miss K-Mart. Because the only place you really wanna buy steel-toed chucka boots is a place that also has a lunch counter.

K-Marts have lunch counters? Dude! Of course, we lost our K-Mart long ago (I can't remember if they're gone from Canada completely), so I'll have to take your word for it.

All large companies suck when it comes to the environment and exploitation of its workforce. Its how they make their massive profits and why large countries (like, but not restricted to, the US & Australia)refuse to meet the kyoto agreements restrictions on pollutants....after all rather a quick buck now than a world for our children right.......?

Never been in a Gap in my life, Kmart or Walmart end-of-season markdowns for me.... It's cheaper being a redneck and going around looking like Larry the Cable Guy!

What's The Gap? Seriously, I've never been there myself, but I think I know what you're talking about. There are a lot of smaller stores around here that I used to wear when I was younger but I outgrew them. It kind of makes me sad for the trips my mother and I used to make to buy me clothes. Ever since I started buying my own clothes it feels like a chore now, sugar. It used to be fun. I want it to be fun again.

i've always just shopped for what i liked and what looked good on me, not staying true to any one brand or label. that's the good thing about freedom, after all.

and i'm glad you love clothes, jay. makes us soul sisters in a way. and let's not get started on the shoes...

gap jeans and shirts don't even come close to looking half way decent on me...but I love their underwear and their HEAVEN spray...smells like you just stepped out of the shower...

oh you can find clothes anywhere!!! thrift shops, garage sales, Macys Bloomingdales, Walmart, Hot Topic, Gap Etc. You just have to be creative!

I buy clothes that fit MY Budget, I bought a skirt for $7 , a jacket for $5 and a shirt for $5 recently and got more compliments than my Bloomies stuff!!!(and Im a BIG thrift shopper!!)

I make my own clothes out of human skin and celery stalks.
Well, maybe only celery stalks.

I have never, and will never, shop at the Gap.

T J MAXX!!! Lots of choices, good quality, great prices and even better sales. Everything from shoes to lotion to toys. Their housewear section rocks, too. I get spices from all over the world there. We've still got our K Mart here in 'Bama. I don't have any one style. My mood dictates how I dress. One day classy, the next day Goth.

I never shop. I do believe shopping for clothes is one of the signs of the End Times.

I agree, we should be individual and not follow the crowd. Thats a nice story. I can't believe your mom actually called the clerks to convince you, thats very funny!

I'm still kicking myself that I didn't buy the sale jeans from Gap Outlet store in Scotland because they were a bit too tight. Too late now.....

That was the first time I'd been in a Gap, ever!

I am not a Gap girl at all, it's too preppy. I love torn faded jeans and yes if I had the buff body I would wear low rise. I love camel suede, and I wear huge platform shoes. I prefer a mixture of fabrics, colour and texture, a little suede, some courderoy, and a lot of dennim!

Not a gap woman. My daughters tried going there but nothing fit their bodies. We all dress w/ individual flair, creative to comfy. (You already know they steal my clothes from all the times of my life!) We're theatrical to classic to comfy. Boils down to what we like and it's usually for free or almost free. Consignment/thrift stores are heaven to us noncomformists, although we all admit to salivating at things in the mall. Then we go home and fig out how to have our version, while still being able to eat!
