Talk to the Goat

HA, judy bloom rocks Though it's hard to find, you should try and rea, "Daisy Fae and the Miracle Man" by Fanny Flagg. Really enjoyable, laugh out loud funny.

My best

Brian

What a thought-provoking question "crush on a fictional character." Must give it some thought! Have you ever read Right Word...Right Time by William Safire? V. entertaining if you enjoy the history and development of words into our cultural lexicon.

Kerouac is one of my favorites...but he's a pretty fast read since there's no punctuation.

I hear ya about all the unread books at home. I just "discovered" a fly fishing book, Bob Dylan book, and some day when I get my deserted island I WILL FINISH Plato's Republic.

OMG - I'm in love with the grown-up Judy Bloom books! She's always been a tad salacious and thought provoking even back in the day of "....It's me Margaret." Judy was a staple of my adolescence, and to have her with me in adulthood (with adult subject matter, no less!) is so comforting.

Mmmm..... I shall re-read Judy's Wifey today and day-dream about my gardner while I masturbate. Okay, I don't have a gardner. And that plumber who was here the other day was stereotypically nasty and hairy. I shall instead day-dream of the pretty, pretty boys from my my new fave movie, Y Tu Mama Tambien - I'm in a Latin phase. Latin boys = caliente! Ooops. I mean I'm gonna go daydream about my IRISH HUSBAND and masturbate. Yeah, thats it! (TMI, I know....)

My friend's husband bought the rights to Jack Kerouac so he can write a damn screenplay.

goat, you are funny!

If it weren't for books I'd have to live in the real world all the time...

I like Chapters because I can have a coffee, pick out a book and devour both in an hour or two. Then I leave, sated and satisfied, without spending money.

However, they're opening a little bookstore about three doors down from my apartment. That will be a challenge not to spend every free moment in it.

I am learning so much from you - like how sex and marketing can be used as a metaphor within any blog entry.

Maybe I should start reading books - right now I just limit my reading to blogs and the labels on the dog food cans . . .

I think that most of us would agree that that's pretty good for a dog, Cal!

You've done some serious reading there, Missy.

I agree with you on so many of these authors...brilliant.

I grew up with Judy Blume...& I love her still, she gives a great interview too.

I'm going to read, Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood...because you said she's a goddess & that's better than good enough for me.

Chick, you made my day just saying that. If you're checking out Miss Atwood, look at her other stuff too, it's all delectable: The Handmaid's Tale is an easy read but a real thinker, The Edible Woman is a classic, ...well basically, you can't go wrong with Atwood.

Crush on a fictional character?

That's easy, sugar, Martin Blank from Grosse Point Blank. Not only is he intelligent, musically-versed, and dashingly handsome, but the man is a contract killer. How convenient is that?!

"Honey, Barbara the bitch at work ruined my day..."

"I'll take care of her in the morning. No worries."

Would you blow me for Catcher in the Rye?

Ha, ha! You cheater, those are eight books!
No Harry Potter? That's fantastic. At least I'm not the only one who doesn't get the appeal of a geek with a wand! (lol)

I am so impressed that you did this meme. Having to identify and narrow down so many book choices--well, it's just the hardest meme out there to complete.

and do notice that I have not had the gumption to do it myself...
(added quickly lest my comment come off as condescending, which was sooooo very far from my intention) My being impressed at all the brave souls who have done it is genuine.

It's intimidating having Jamie read all the time, all these books lying about the house, there's barely room for me. I try to keep up, but it will never be possible, and I get severly mocked.

Jamie, where is my copy of "Horton Hears a Who"?

I prefer the used bookstore across from Chapters. Not as big a selection, but always with surprises. I'm not sure what that says about me with my preference for sloppy seconds.

Don't you just ADORE that new-book smell? There's nothing quite like it.

I`ve said I`d blog for sushi but will fuck for books is beyond me

Wow.
2 of the 5 are on my list of awesome reads as well.

I've always been a LOTR fan, and have read the series 14 times. It's pretty insane, actually.

These days I have been reading lots of martial-arts based books because it is something I have been neglecting for a number of years.

I have to defend myself from Dave, the modern day Samurai.

Books...sigh...I love them so much and yet I have so little money. I con my mom (yes I'm 2 into buying books that I think "she'll like" (I want to read) and then I make her pass them on. And yeah, anything by Richard Russo gets my vote. I met him a couple years back and he reaffirmed my absolute love for all things him.

hey where'd that weird smiley come from? I tried to say "yes I'm 28..." but apparently I hit something else...

After reading that, I feel ashamed to be going to Chapters so oftern, BUT ITS IN THE MALL RIGHT BY MY PLACE !!!

*Breaks down and sobs*

Charlie, no, no Harry Potter. I have a knee-jerk reaction to all things "popular", therefore I have never read a word nor seen the films of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc.

Margaret Atwood IS a Goddess--love her.

...being stuck on a deserted island and only being able to have 5 books just might be my own version of hell.

geeez, J, your tittle- can't type much w/ fingies out of commission.

Wow! We must really be on the same wavelength with the book thing. How funny!

no f. scott?

Margaret Atwood turned out to be a right shocker for me when i bought my first. I had just finished cloud atlas and was in the mood for something mind-numbing and just a wee bit sugary. I picked up Oryx & Crake based on the nice little piggy cover, there was nothign on the jacket about it. The dystopic nightmare senery isn't what i expected but i loved it anyway.

Any Time sweetie-pie...There's plenty more where that came from...

I read LOTR for the first time back in the 60s when I was 10. No one even knew what it was then. It's a rival for my favorite along with Alice in Wonderland and Pride and Prejudice.

Even if you are eschewing all things popular, you might still like Tolkien.

Yes, I might. I know I might. I might like Harry Potter too. I've got nothing against them.

What I do have is a list of all the bookes I want to read before I'm dead. In 2004 I managed to read 137 books, which was about 1/28th of the list.

A book addiction can be a cruel master to have to bear.

LOL! If I were stuck in a deserted island, I would be glad to have you as company... with all your books!
