What to watch: Veronica Mars. If you liked Nancy Drew when you were younger than you will love this show. It is supposed to be a teen show but it's a bit like Twin Peaks (and I'm sorry, but I loved Twin Peaks).
What to see: The 25th Hour. Edward Norton has 25 hours left as a free man before he heads to prison for a twenty year strech. He has 25 hours to figure out who snitched on him, his associates or his girl.
What to Read: Coal Run by Tawni O'Dell. It's a story of revenge and it's fab.
What to Listen to: The Negro Problem, particularly the song "Bleed". Go to my site and click on the link in one of my posts to hear that song, it's the best.

Melina: Veronica Mars is like Twin Peaks? OK, you convinced me, I gotta watch it.
My What to Watch, but if you laugh you can't read any further, is the new Little House on the Prairie series on ABC Saturday nights. I loved the old LHOP when I was a kid, but this one, well Charles is just one hot mother fucker. I swear I never thought I'd say I want to fuck Charles Ingalls, but I just can't help myself. It is way better than the original. And I don't say that often, either.
What to See: I seriously haven't rented a movie in so long. How about the video of my sons birth? There's no muff shots.
What to Read: Janet Evanovich novels. I'm working on the Stephanie Plum series and right now am on book #3. Fucking hilarious. If I lived in New Jersey, I think I'd be a lot like her. Well, I already am, only with flat hair and no blue eye shadow.
What to Hear: Nine Inch Nails. Loved them when I was 15 with Pretty Hate Machine, but they got a little too mainstream, now Trent is going back to his roots. Download it. You won't regret it.

LD, I can't believe some one else has seen it! Yeah, I was not quite sober watching it either, maybe it's just a stoner movie, but man, I laughed.

Jay, first of all, I'm peeved: your hottest men link goes to Microsoft.
What to read: Peter Carey's My life as a fake and True history of the Ned Kelly gang. Brilliant. But I liked Harry Potter as well, so who knows.
What to see: La meglio giuventu (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346336/), 2x3hrs, every minute is worth it. Alternatively, The sure thing, because I fell in love with John Cusack in that movie when I was 11 and I still laugh.
What to watch: French TV? 2 very short debates on a i-télévision (cable), on Sundays, excellent (and one hottie to boot, too). Spooks, on British TV. Dead like me (but I'm not sure it's still on).
What to listen: Nappy Roots, Dean Martin, Camille Bazbaz (schizophrenic, I tell you).

What to Watch: NASCAR, of course! Is tonight's race being televised up there in Ontario?
What to See: White Chicks - just because it's so fucking hilarious. Watch it over and over again.
What to Read: Gates of Eden by Ethan Coen. An oldie, but definitely goodie. An excellent (and very crazy) collection of short stories.
What to Hear: Arular by M.I.A. - "Ga-lang, ga-lang, ga-lang!". Great stuff. Buy the CD. Do it now.

What to watch: I only watch 2 shows: the Simpsons and Desperate Housewives. Both funny.
What to see: Amelie -- a French film from a few years ago. If you haven't seen it, you must; it is funny and sweet. Any film that has a garden gnome as a subplot can't be bad.
What to read: The 13 Clocks (Thurber). It's ostensibly a children's book, but it has much more to say to grownups. Plus it's just downright fun to read.
What to hear: Pinkie & the Snakeshakers, my favorite local blues band -- you just can't beat "Good Girl Gone Bad".

My turn, my Turn.
What to Watch:
Letterman, especially after he sits at the desk and starts to talk about whatever. When he starts going on about his personal life, its funny as well. He uses comedy to communicate and does so very well.
What to Read:
Currently I'm reading Debt of Honor by Tom Clancy and I'm enjoying it but I'm one of those guys who loves it when CNN starts playing that Breaking News music.
I might also recommend Opus from the Sunday Comics.
What to Hear:
I'm in love with Amy Lee from Evanescence (Ok I have a thing for Goth Girls) so I love that bad. Though lately I've also been downloading (and listening) to the Howard Stern Show from a newsgroup, which posts the days show about a half hour after it was on the air. It offensive but funny.

What to watch: "The Soup" on E! This way, you don't have to watch any TV at all during the week...just watch the clips they make fun of and laugh your ass off.
What to see: "The Motorcycle Diaries". Better in the theater, but still wonderful on DVD.
What to read: 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer. Indescribable, but so original and wonderful.
What to hear: Rachael Yamagata. And Fiona Apple's newest, but you have to download it because it has not been released by a label.

OK, here's my antipodean take on these questions..
Watch
The Glasshouse Comedic look at the week's events with Wil Anderson Corinne Grant and Dave Hughes...
'The Memphis Trousers Half Hour' Ditto, but with Rampaging Roy Slaven and HG Nelson instead. It's weird, but you gotta love their style! Both available on ABC-TV (aus)
See
Well, I haven't seen it yet, but 'Three Dollars' sounds prety cool.
Read
Anything by Kerry GreenwoodAus Detective Lit
Hear
The Cat Empire Wild, kinda hip-hop without being that, kinda folk, kinda Rory McLeod (think the title music for Strange Creatures if you've seen that)...

What to watch: Sorry, no cable. And I think that cable companies have rigged it so there's no reception to even the basic channels without cable.
What to see: Frida. Sex, tortured love, history, what more could you want?
What to read: A million Little pieces by James Frey. It'll shock you and break your heart and it's true as well.
What to hear: Well, given your music taste-try Sugarcoma. In fact I think I'm going to throw in a couple of their songs into your twinkie box. (Although, it's been a little harder than I thought to track down the *red* kind, BTW.) My fav stuff right now: the Shins.

Watching: New Dr. Who w/Chris Eccelston (sp?). My favorite pinball machine at my local bar way back was Dr. Who themed. The new show is bloody fantastic.
Seeing: Movies? What are those?
Reading: currently, HR Clinton's memoir. I actually like it. And Anne Lamott's newest, "Plan B".
Listening: Neil Finn, Annie Lennox, Hooverphonic.
I know the drill includes some sort of opine, but strangely I feel all opined out.

Here's the view from the other end of the spectrum:
What to see: God, there's nothing on TV I can recommend except the wierdly compelling From the Actors' Studio on Sunday afternoon
Movies: I could watch The Hours every second day, with Zoolander the days inbetween (I could eat Ben Stiller with a very small spoon, with a side of Owen Wilson)
Read: the novels by Charles Todd about the young Lieutenant in the First World War who comes home with something unusual and becomes a homicide detective; or Deafening by Frances Itani. As for Life of Pi, I would bronze every word, and give up another two nights' sleep to wrestle with myself about the ending. And the best book about communication I've ever read---and I made my living as a communicator---was The Mysterious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime---I ate my meals standing up, and read in every known position till I had finished it.
Listen to: Bright Eyes, Rachel Yamagata and Ron Sexsmith---he's the most amazing storyteller, or for stories to haunt you, try Cry, Cry, Cry

I haven't watched the hour yet. I'll do that.
What to watch: House
Hugh Laurie is a genius in the role of a grumpy diagnostician. It is a medical drama, but it has one of those characters we all wish we had the guts we could be. Or perhaps some of us already are...
What to see: The Incredibles
I've put this on here because it was a recent watch. I am an animated movie freak, but anything that has an elastic girl smacking her huby's ass from across the room is good material. The story is fun, and the animation is amazing.
What to Read: The Kite Runner
Jay stole Life of Pi from me, so I will put this on there instead. This book, by Khaled Hosseini is an amazing story of a man tormented by an event from his past, and the decisions he makes to find redemption. It will make you cry.
What to hear: Pamela Brennan.
She doesn't have a solo album yet, but I hear it's on the way. She used to be involved with Hennessey (When they were still around). You should check her out: http://www.pamelabrennan.com
Cheers,

ryn: (How?) ...because I am the "queen" of the local thrifting scene--I know which stores to haunt on 1/2 price days, which stores put stuff out at the same "flat rate" regardless of the items label etc... I *never* pay retail--I've done the thrifting thing for so long that I really can't *stand* to.
For instance, with that particular outfit--The dress I got for 1.99, and the rest of the items at .99 each. I've gotten so used to paying that for stuff--that it makes me cringe to walk into a store and see people buying clothes off the rack. *g*
Anyway... it's something I enjoy (thrifting that is) and as I said--I've a gf who I'm in friendly competition with--we're always showing up at these events and then we admire each other gowns and bags and shoes and then we have to give the "run-down" on how "much" we spent. ...or didn't spend, really. LOL.
I like more "fun" stuff--she's more into the vintage scene...
Anyway. That's the low-down on the bargain basement that is my closet.
(I also own a $300 black leather biker's jacket that I paid--ack and I thought this was HIGH but I HAD to have it--$20 for. And a maroon leather trench coat that I paid
...ready??
Thirty-three cents for.
Yeah. Thirty-three cents. For a genuine leather trench coat.

Entertaining blog, well done. Okay...
Watch: If you are spending much time watching anything on TV other than the BBC or PBS, immediately pick up said TV and throw it out nearest window. Third floor or higher preferred.
See: The Corporation Just pull your head out of the sand and watch it, okay.
Read: Howard Zinn, A People's History of the United States A classic. If you haven't read it, you need to. If you have, read it again.
Hear: Well, you'll be so pissed off after completing the above suggestions that you'll probably need something mellow to calm you down. I saw this band HEM about three years ago in Austin, TX, open up for Beth Orton. Their recent album is getting some good attention.

What to watch: Chapelle's Show. LMAO funny every show.
What to see: The Sting. Yes its an old movie (1973), but one of the highest rated movies of all time. I just watched it from start to finish for the first time (i had always seen bits of this movie). Awesome writing, plot twists, dialogue, & direction, and as an added bonus, ladies get the eye candy of Redford & Newman when they were hot! For more info, go here http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/.../1020130-sting/
What to Read: I Loved the Life of Pi! Great suggestion. My suggestion: Hyperion, by Dan Simmons. My favorite Sci-Fi book. Simmons is a great writer. The concepts are mind-warping. You get so into the story that you forget about your life.
What to Hear: Artist-Thievery Corporation, Album-The Richest Man in Babylon. It's a chilled mixture of genres with influences from many cultures. Political & social commentary. Damn enjoyable to listen to.

My What to Watch was going to be Veronica Mars as well. That show rocks!
What to rent: I Heart Huckabees. It is clever, smart and amusing, but a bit off the beaten path. If you don't like intellectual comedy with a twist of bizarre (a la the movie Rushmore) don't bother seeing it.
What to Read: The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay. My all time favorite book. It never gets old and is marvelously written.
What to Listen to: Yeah I am no help on this one...I haven't gotten a new CD in ages. I am still digging Nelly's Suit...but if you want to try something new and you love jazz check out Suspended Night by Tomasz Stanko Quartet

Watch Jamie Oliver. Naked chef, Oliver's Twist, whatever. Good food is good. Was that repetitive?
See Being John Malkovich. Though you've clearly already seen it because, well... why wouldn't you have? You should watch it again.
Read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. The most recent book read by myself was Life After God, a la Douglas Coupland. Read that too.
Listen to TV On the Radio's Ambulance.

What to See: Something foreign.

What to watch (given that I only have three tv channels and I have a soft spot for chicks that kick butt): Alias. Let's face it, I would much rater be a spy than count cladocerans all day.
Read: Trinity, by Leon Uris. Wonderfully written, and as the name implies, about the historical religious peril in Ireland.
Listen: If I have to pick just one, The Be Good Tanyas. Their music has been described as "gothic bluegrass", and I love them. Unfortunately, one of their songs is featured on the latest ZELLERS commercial! Other than that, Oh Susanna and Hayden are also in my cd player.

Oh Jay, I love this post...your recommendations are killer good...then I just read the comments...shit...there’s alot of stupendous stuff out there that totally deserves to be checked out...you have the best readers (she said, while trying her best NOT to sound like a suck up).
Mine are:
To Watch: The Office. This show has no laugh track...this is a huge bonus for someone who does not what to be told when you have to laugh (& who does?!). This show is dry & quietly, subtly funny...you’ll either hate it or love it...I’m guessing you’ll love it.
To See: In America. A beautiful story written by Jim Sheridan & his daughters. The character development & plot lines are so thoroughly fleshed out & deep, you’ll be lost in the story...oh & the acting is superb. The 2 little girls in this movie give the best performances I’ve ever seen from children...they’ll break your heart.
To Read: Back Roads by Tawni O’Dell. You’re going to fall in quirky love with the demented 19 year old boy who is the main character.
To Hear: Fallen by Evanescence. My Immortal is a beautifully haunting song...& her voice will kill you.

I'll just put in for a WHAT TO WATCH:
CRASH - a flick that's out in a week or two by the guy who wrote Million Dollar Baby.
It's a fantastic film. Knock you upside the head and make you re-evaluate your relationships with people. Do yerself a favor and see it.
Well...that or House of Wax with that fucktard Paris Hilton. I'm sure both are equally redeeming.

What to see? I really liked School for Scoundrels but it might have been the bottle of wine. In any event, I laughed and laughed.
What to read? I will definitely second Life of Pi. Definitely
